Red Vox Knox My Sox Off

mainly because ive been there, panic attacks late at night (shout out memento mori) about when ill be remembered last. a lot of red vox is introspextive, the man vs self type of story telling.

i think the lingering obsession with death in red vox songs is part of what keeps me tethered to them. for a long time ive dealt with the existential dread myself, and red vox articulates it well. and honestly, they grow through it the same way I have.

you know that growing takes effort and adversity. nothing good in this life comes easy. but how long is too long? at what point does it become you bashing your head against a wall? how many times do you fall flat on your face before throwing in the towel?

stranded being a song about someone so depressed it's isolated them, to the point they almost resent the people trying to reach out to them. and as a slight tangent, the instrumental second half of the song feels like using the resentment that builds in the first half as a motivator to keep going. in that framing, the fighting to push forward is rewarded at the very end, because they can hear their friend's voice reaching out.

the time it slipped away seems to be the point of view of the friend. verse 3 being a hint at that:

it gives a feeling of 'i was there before, and all it got me was time wasted'. and i would say there's an edge of resentment here, too. 'live it up, or throw it away' sounds incredibly frustrated to me.
