surprise, I'm alive!
fun fact: I had remember our eclipse completely written out on paper, hid it in my dresser drawer because I was an easily embarassed teenager, then my stepmom threw it away while putting away laundry and I lost all motivation to rewrite it lmfao. but all hope is not lost, I'm getting back around to it.
as for ataraxia... new chapters WILL be coming out this year even if it kills me. I've been on a huge star wars kick for a few years now and that mc in particular is eating my brain like a damn amoeba. I'll try to slowly update both but tbh I'm vastly more motivated to write for star wars at the moment

The sand rubbed harshly against every inch of his being. On his left sat a nameless man, looking equally as uncomfortable situated on the dune.
“Take the shot, Marc.” The man growled, impatience dripping from his tone.
He couldn’t feel it before, but a scope was nuzzled on his right eye, barrel pointed at two armored men. Everything in his being told him not to fire. Yet every night without fail, he calmly stroked the trigger backward in quick succession, both bodies falling soundlessly onto the sand.
Once the deed was done, he was pulled to his feet by the nameless man, cascading down the dune behind him. The man then pulled them to a stop near the bottom.
“Shit.” The man cursed, loading a magazine of ammunition, “There’s more people here than I thought.”
He reached out to the man, grabbing the magazine in an effort to halt the actions of the other.
An unfamiliar name rolled off his tongue. Despite its blatant unfamiliarity, his heart stung as he spoke it. “Leave it to them, they can stealth in and retrieve the map.”
Despite the time they were given to marinate in the open air, the words still left no familiar taste in his mouth. In response, the nameless man elbowed him, knocking him to the ground.
Letting out a deep chuckle at the sight of his colleague so disoriented, the man removed a pistol from his belt.
“Don't worry, Spector,” a plaintive click broke through the man's words as he now stared down the barrel of a gun, “I'll make sure you’re not without your pesky lover for long.”
Regularly, this was where everything stopped. But the nightmare continued.
It came and went in flashes. Frantic screams. The nameless man wildly waving his machine gun back and forth. His vision went in and out, head pounding at the overstimulation.
Without his command, his hands moved to his chest, grabbing something. He had never gotten this far before; he needed to know more. This was his chance. Holding the object – what he had now identified as dog tags, he used what little energy he had in an attempt to read what was imprinted upon them.
The scene had a different plan. The necklace was ripped out of his hand, causing a deep pang in his chest. He didn’t know why. His neck craned as his vision was forced upward, towards the dunes. There, a figure retreated into the desert. It wasn’t the nameless man. It felt like someone was driving a dull blade through his heart – unable to cleanly cut, the knife tears whatever it comes into contact with. He didn’t know who was causing such a reaction. He wanted to find out.
He tried to call out to the retreating figure, crawl towards them, but he was stuck, and that felt wrong. His head throbbed with a searing pain.
Then he was falling, night sky rapidly flashing around him. He came to a sudden stop in a cave. A statue stared down at him, its large, white cloak blowing softly in the wind.
Steven shot awake, immediately leaning forward into a sitting position. His hand subconsciously grabbed at his chest, only to feel nothing. Steven looked down, confused. However, there was nothing to be found. Bending down to take off the ankle restraint, Steven moved to get out of bed. Carefully hopping over the sand circle, he walked over to where his radio was perched on the desk.
Steven turned on the radio, the mellifluous tones of A Man Without Love filling the room.
The song seemed so familiar to him – nostalgic, even, but no memories came to mind. Shaking off the feeling, Steven sprinkled a bit of fish food into Gus's tank, continuing to tape up another postcard from his mum.
Steven walked over to his door, checking to make sure the painter's tape from the night before was still there – just another part of his normal morning routine that was anything but. Letting out a relieved sigh at the sight of it still intact, he ripped the tape off, flicking it into the trash can.
Steven groaned while getting dressed for the day. Despite a profound lack of participation in any physical activity, he still wakes up sore. Maybe he should start stretching more often, Steven liked that idea. Inserting his arms into the sleeves of his coat, Steven gathered his belongings and headed out the door.
It was a normal day on the streets of London – overcast clouds, frequent rain leaving the sidewalks damp. Stepping out onto the street, Steven rolled his eyes after almost colliding with the broom vendor, as per usual. Focusing his gaze forward once more, Steven caught sight of the bus leaving.
"Ah, bollocks." He mumbled, quickening his pace. He raced through the crowd, barely managing to refrain from tripping in a few instances.
He rammed particularly hard into someone's shoulder, muttering a quick sorry! and throwing them an apologetic glance before resuming his sprint.
You rubbed your shoulder, now even sorer than it was before. Your entire back ached from a long night of flying, and now this. Glaring daggers into the back of your assailant, you narrowed your eyes as he reached the bus.
"Calm down," Ra warned, materializing on a rooftop across the street, "you would appreciate the same favor if you were in his position." Tipping his head down to look at you, the god's eyes narrowed.
You let out a tch at his chastising, crossing your arms over your chest. "don't scold me like one of your children." You scoffed.
Ra chuckled. "If I treated you like I treat my children, you'd be dead."
Quietly growling at his words, you returned to your morning jog. Ra swooped down, stopping you in your tracks. You paused, giving him a questioning look. He turned to you, feathers on his head raised at a slight angle, showing his agitation.
"Khonshu." The name fell from Ra's beak, dripping with malice, "I felt him."
Ra had a complicated history with the moon god. Being gods of opposing forces, they were bound to disagree from time to time. However, the two grew to completely despise one another, flat out refusing to share the sky evenly. It was originally thought to be their duels that made the length of days and nights vary, after all. Sometimes, during sleepless nights, Ra would tell tales of their battles. Originally, they battled through manipulating the sky, however, they were threatened with exile by the gods as a means to put an end to their quarrels. This just made them do it in secret, even after Khonshu’s banishment – which Ra may have had something to do with. Since then, the two have faced off through whatever poor human was caught in their grasp as an Avatar. Battles usually resulted in the death of one, or even both avatars, which was something you hoped you would never have to go through – another person inflicting so much pain upon you, even a god doesn’t bother resurrecting your dismembered corpse. Currently, you had the fortune of never running into Khonshu's avatar thus far. However, it appeared as if that was going to change in the near future.
"Follow him!" Ra commanded, furiously waving a feathered arm.
You didn't need to be told twice, jogging into an alleyway and shifting into the form of a falcon. In public areas, you were mostly limited to this form, as it was less eye-catching than your suit.
Soaring into the sky, you quickly scanned the area for the bus.
"It looks like every other bus in this city" you grumbled, scanning the area with your improved eyesight.
"I still feel his cursed energy…" Ra murmured, honing his focus, "head east."
At his command you dove down like a torpedo, using the speed gained to quickly track down the bus.
You landed in an alleyway beside the museum, shifting back into your normal form. You stretched your arms as you walked toward the entrance – they always felt a bit strange after changing forms. Glancing up at the triangular stone slabs above the entrance, you saw Ra lounging on the roof, legs dangling in front of the entryway banners.
"Took you long enough." The sun god grumbled.
You raised your eyebrow at him, the banner beneath his form catching your eye.
"Aren't there nine gods in the ennead?" You questioned rhetorically, approaching the museum.
Ra glanced at the banner behind his clawed feet, chuckling softly at the oversight.
You strode into the museum, damp bottoms of your sneakers squeaking against the stone floor. You nodded to the security guard as you entered, softly smiling at him for added effect. You cruised around the exhibits for a bit, Ra giving you extra tidbits of information here and there.
The two of you were standing off to the side of the ancient Egypt exhibit watching a child stuff trash into the pyramid of Giza – which Ra grumbled harshly at the sight of, before stiffening and glaring at a man who just walked in.
"It's him " the god growled. You could feel his distaste for the man from a few feet away. Looking up from the model pyramid, you saw the man from earlier. Your eyes widened, body becoming just as stiff as the god next to you.
You knew that face.
"It's Marc." You whispered, leaning in preparation to run towards him. Ra halted your actions, keeping you back with a strong tug on your arm.
"Don't," he urged, talon-tipped fingers wrapping around your bicep, "that is not the same man you lost in the desert that night, sunbeam." Ra stated, using his nickname for you – albeit the one he uses only when he's trying to convince you of something. Sensing your unease, he continued.
"Khonshu has stripped that man of who he is, turning him into nothing but a vessel of vengeance." Ra looked around, as if scanning the surroundings for something.
"Isn't that exactly what I do?" You mumbled, tilting your head toward Ra.
The god ignored you.
"he is nearly absent. His presence here is… faint." You were beginning to become uncomfortable with the number of times the lunar deity was being mentioned, wary of how that has gone in the past.
You wanted to run to the man that once was Marc, jump into his arms, and mutter how much you missed him into his neck as he wraps his arms around you. Ra continued to ramble on about Khonshu, lunar cycles, and other such things while you drowned in your own thoughts.
Meanwhile, you thought about all the time you spent scanning the desert on that fateful night. Time that – thanks to Khonshu, was wasted.
You couldn't take this anymore.
Breaking free of Ra's grasp, you ran out of the building. In your stead, a lone clerk leaned over the counter of a gift shop, attempting to make sense of a long-lost feeling of déja-vu.
Deafening thunder shook your entire frame as you circled high in the air. After your meltdown, Ra materialized in your bedroom, informing you that he had felt a ‘shift in the balance of light and dark’ – in his own words, that needed to be taken care of immediately. You never questioned his command, immediately throwing yourself into the sky at Ra’s beck and call.
That led to you being forced to fly through the night to southern Germany, your path guided with nothing but the sun god’s own words. Although it was a relatively short distance away, you were forced to circle in the sky for hours, waiting for freezing rain to clear up. By the time you were finally able to land, it was mid-morning. Gunshots were already ringing through the lush, green hills.
“How lovely.” You muttered, diving down to their location.
“Remember, you agreed to this.” Ra spoke in response, referencing the agreement the two of you shook hands over at your first meeting with the god.
Using your heightened senses, you were easily able to pinpoint the gunman's location inside a peach-colored wooden apartment building.
You flew into a window near the gunmen, rolling to disperse the momentum. Once standing, you took a sun-shaped throwing star in each hand and flung it at each of the gunmen’s legs. One hit, while the other missed. You continued to pursue the non-immobilized gunner, dodging bullets as you flung yourself around corners, hot on his tail. Rounding a particularly sharp corner, you shoved the man into a door, headbutting his shoulder with a deep oomph from him. He turned to shoot at you point-blank, but you reacted faster, yanking the gun from his grasp.
The gunless gunman then attempted to best you in hand-to-hand combat, clumsily tossing a few hooks your way. Dodging a majority of the punches, you saw an opening. Catching a particularly ill-aimed right hook, you swung him over your shoulder, proceeding to promptly slam the gunman to the ground. As he attempts to regain his bearings, you send a knife to the side of his neck with little more than a trained flick of the wrist. Panting to regain your breath, you summoned your other throwing star back into your hand, hearing a deep crunch as it broke through whatever barriers necessary to return to your open palm. Peeking out the window, you saw people congregating in the main village with your enhanced eyesight. Getting a running start, you leaped out a broken window, taking to the sky after shifting forms once more.
Arriving at where the people swarmed, you settled on the edge of a rooftop overlooking the unfurling scene. A bell tolled as a man in a burnt orange shirt padded to the middle of the crowd, greeting the townspeople as they gathered around him.
“What a beautiful day,” His light, airy voice cut through the tense air, “It’s like we’re in heaven. Only it’s not heaven, is it?” He glanced around, eyes scanning the faces of those around him.
You perked up at his question, hopping closer to the edge of the roof.
The man slowly paced forward. “We are here to make the earth as much like heaven as possible,” ah, so this is what Ra sensed. You flew over to another rooftop across the courtyard to get a front-on view.
The man looked out to the crowd. “Who’d like to go first?”
To your surprise, someone actually volunteered themselves. A middle-aged man emerged from the crowd, nervously strutting to the center of the courtyard to stand alongside the other man.
The man in the burnt orange shirt set his cane in the palms of the other man, placing his hands underneath that of the other man. The cane began to sway as the man spoke once more, hushed whispers among the crowd suddenly halting
“I judge you in Ammit’s name, with but a fraction of her power.”
Each word that fell from his mouth felt like successive punches to the gut. You could feel Ra become uneasy through your bond, causing your feathers to become ruffled again. Suddenly, the burnt orange shirt man looked up, clearing his throat. You were trying to breathe as deep as your small falcon lungs could handle, however, that was proving difficult given the situation.
“This is the face of a good man!” A puff of air released itself from your beak, breathing immediately becoming ten times easier as your feathers settled.
Another townsperson wasn’t as lucky. The man performing the judgment – Arthur Harrow, as the woman had called him, looked emotionless as her body fell to the ground.
By this point, Ra was a muttering mess.
“I… don’t understand.” He started. Materializing on the rooftop you used to be on, the sun god began pacing back and forth. “She’s supposed to be sealed away, her power entombed forever.”
“Who?” you questioned, eyes widening as a guard appeared next to Harrow, informing him of your deeds.
“Ammit.”
Not giving you any time to process, Arthur yelled something in ancient Egyptian, the crowd bowing in response – except for one man, who was late to the cue.
“Ah, bollocks.” he murmured, hastily bowing down.
Harrow stepped forward, giving him an analytical glare. “I know you.”
The man stuttered in response, awkwardly clamoring to his feet. Unable to see his face due to his back facing your position, you were left to fill in the gaps your vision lacked.
Harrow stepped back, forcing his guards between him and the newcomer.
“Mercenary.” The evil man spat, voice darkening.
To get a better view of the situation, you flew down to a ledge behind Harrow, perching on a carved stone statue. The other man continued to speak to Harrow, voice wavering. From this perspective, however, you could see his face. It was a familiar one.
Yet, for the sake of your role as an avatar, that man was dead.
“Khonshu.” Ra growled.
“And will you return the scarab?” Harrow asked harshly, thrusting his hand toward the man. Townspeople moved in on the newcomer, shoving him toward Harrow.
The man rummaged around his jacket, a confused yet somewhat concerned expression on his face.
“Oh!” He exclaimed, hand settling in his left pocket, “You mean this?” He pulled an intricately carved, golden scarab from his jacket pocket.
You felt Ra’s interest become piqued at the sight of it.
“You must retrieve it.” Commanded the sun god, “by any means necessary.”
You shifted your wings in anticipation, looking for an opportunity to swoop in.
The man from the museum moved to give Harrow the scarab. In anticipation, you had almost moved to jump off the ledge, however, his hand clamped closed before he could surrender the scarab to Harrow.
Townspeople – no, cultists, moved in on him, restraining his limbs. The man continued to struggle, until he was completely pulled to the ground by people trying to tear the scarab from his grasp.
You formulated a plan to swoop in and use your sharp talons to snatch the scarab from whoever got it in the end, but people suddenly started to fly in all directions as they got knocked off the man while he fought them. Taking them down one by one, punches flew as he confidently wove through each assailant. Catching a punch, he swung the attacker over his shoulder, slamming them to the ground.
You recognized this fighting style. That was your signature move.
As soon as the scarab was back in his hand, the suave confidence disappeared as frantic, confused eyes bounced around, taking in the scene.
His breath shook at the sight of the incapacitated bodies surrounding him, eyes widening at the sight of his blood-covered hands. Before your eyes, the man you once considered your closest friend was replaced by the stranger who bumped into you this morning.
You almost allowed your heart to shatter at this revelation, but Ra’s bubbling impatience scalded your soul, forcing you to focus on the task at hand.
As more cultists began encroaching on him, the hoodie-clad man broke into a full sprint down the road, only to be stopped by another angry crowd. They corralled him into a corner, leaving him with nowhere else to go but a cupcake van. He quickly entered the van, finding the keys serendipitously in a cup holder. People began to bang on the sides of the van as he monologued in the driver's seat, forcing him to take off down the road in the gaudy vehicle.
“Follow him!” Ra shouted as you took off, wings beating swiftly, “we cannot let Khonshu obtain the scarab!”
You flew after the van, careful to keep the large cupcake on top in your sight. Speeding down winding, unmaintained roads, the cupcake van was now en route down a mountain path. A parade of cars filled with vengeful cultists followed, hot on his bumper. It didn’t take long for bullets to fly, forcing you to intervene.
A man with a gun hopped onto the back of the van, tearing open the door. You swooped down, clawing at his face like a rabid magpie. You felt your talons shred flesh as the man screamed, dropping his gun in surprise. He stumbled backward with heavy steps, struggling to pry you off his face. You finally let off on your attack right as he stumbled out the back of the van, narrowly dodging an outstretched hand that attempted to take you down with it. He fell onto the asphalt with a piercing scream, proceeding to get run over by another car that was eager to fill the vacancy. The man from earlier looked back for a moment in disbelief as you preened your wing – its feathers had gotten a bit ruffled in the ‘fight’.
“Right,” he stated, nodding his head as he steered the van, “this is definitely a dream.”
“Trust me, I wish.” You shifted into your suited-up human form, grabbing the weapon the gunman dropped.
The man driving the van screamed in response, catching a glimpse of you in the rearview mirror. His attention was pulled back to the road as cars began to ram the van, threatening to push it over the edge. After somehow keeping the cupcake van from tumbling over the edge – with only a little bit of screaming this time, bullets began to puncture every surface of the van. You swung around to the front, kneeling in the passenger seat as the man in the driver’s seat seized a gun from the car on his side.
Both of you began firing at the cultists, perfectly in sync. Whenever he would shoot at a car on your side, you’d already be covering his back by firing at whoever was in the car on the driver’s side, the sound of your gun firing perfectly in tune with the other. The two of you shot at the final car behind you at the same time, his brown eyes making contact with the golden eyes of your suit. His gaze had a curious but knowing tone to it, yet his body language seemed to ask a myriad of questions.
A gunshot flew through your field of vision, interrupting his introspection. Looking toward the source, you saw another car had already caught up to the van once more.
“I got it.” You stated, using the headrests of the seats to hop over a crate of cupcakes.
Taking cover beside a metal cabinet built into the wall, you aimed your gun at the driver, years of built-up instincts taking over as your finger pulled the trigger.
The gun let out a pathetic click as nothing came out of the barrel, several more clicks following as you furiously attempted to shoot.
Tossing the gun aside, you flew out the back door as a falcon, switching forms again the moment you were outside the van. This resulted in your body acting as a wrecking ball, breaking through the windshield with ease. The car began to swerve wildly as bullets punctured your flesh, both driver and passenger frantically trying to neutralize the threat you posed.
The car began to swerve more harshly, the driver viciously attempting to knock you off while you shot at other cars, taking out a white sedan packed with cultists. In your zone, you didn’t notice the driver swerve to the edge, the car effortlessly tumbling over it.
“Shift!” Ra commanded, foreseeing the optimal response.
Finally working your way back up to the road, you glanced ahead, noticing a semi rapidly approaching in the distance. The van had just barely cleared the semi, which was now tipping over. You didn’t have enough time to take a wide path around, leaving your options limited and running out.
“Under!” The sun god instructed as if hearing your internal struggles. Sure enough, there was still about a two-foot gap between the semi and the road, just enough for you to clear it as the semi fell. Lining yourself up, you slipped seamlessly under the semi seconds before it hit the ground, a symphony of crashes sounding right as you were fully clear of the large vehicle.
Catching sight of the cupcake van, a one hundred yard gap had developed between you and it.
Flapping your wings harder, you closed the gap, flying into the open back doors. Shifting back to human form, you pull a sore arm against your chest to stretch it, the frequent shifting causing the muscles to ache.
The driver stared at you in the rearview mirror, his gaze alone asking you a million questions. For a moment, you could have sworn a flicker of recognition blazed in his eyes, however, by the next moment, it was gone, a confused look overtaking his features.
Upon noticing the gun in his hand, he gasped in surprise, immediately dropping it to the ground. Noticing your presence in the mirror, he had the same reaction, letting out a startled yell.
“I don't understand what's happening!” He screams, swerving the van wildly.
Leaning over, you grabbed the steering wheel, steadying the vehicle. Calmly turning to the man, you looked him in the eye.
“You keep the car on the road. I keep us alive. Deal?” you offered, tone softening.
He nodded wildly, tightening his grip on the steering wheel.
“Get the scarab!” Ra shouted, his voice cracking with the sheer rage behind it.
Your facade broke.
Using your position semi-leaned over him, you sent the driver a dazing punch to the nose, grabbing the scarab from his hoodie pocket as he recoiled. You continued to book it, soaring out of the van swiftly.
As you began to ascend above the mountaintop, a fist clenched around your wing, intending to slam your shifted form to the ground. Thinking fast, you reverted forms, now rapidly plummeting with a fully suited avatar of the moon trying to wedge the scarab from your grasp. He sent a swift knee to your stomach, driving the air from your lungs. Ground now fast approaching, you maneuvered yourself to face him – dodging flurries of punches and kicks of all sorts, you delivered a strong spike with both legs, sending him to the ground.
Khonshu, being the god of vengeance, didn’t let you escape unscathed. As you moved to deploy a patagium-like set of gliding wings built into your suit, the enemy avatar grabbed hold of your ankle, pulling you down with him. Hitting the ground side by side, the two of you didn’t even stop to catch breath as you flipped yourselves up in sync, immediately resuming the fight.
Khonshu’s avatar attempted to jab you with a right hook to the shoulder, crescent-shaped knife in hand, but you spun backward, countering with a throwing star to his leg. He tore it out without a second thought, now armed with a weapon in each hand. Holding the scarab in your right hand, you were now at a disadvantage. He swung at you with fervor, forcing you to submit and perform a series of dodges without having the chance to get any hits of your own in.
At around dodge number eight, you saw an opportunity. Khonshu’s avatar swung high with his left, aiming for your neck. Ducking out of the way, you grabbed his wrist, careful not to catch your forearm on his blade. Before he could start to react, you twisted around, pulling him onto your back and over your shoulder. Due to his familiarity with such a move, he pulled you down and over him, settling atop you. Straddling you, he drove his crescent-shaped blade through your wrist with force, trapping it against the ground.
“Kinky, huh?” You taunted, using the opportunity to catch your breath.
The man above you panted as well, ripping the scarab from your grasp. You tried to fight it, but the blade was too tight on your wrist, restricting movement.
Khonshu’s avatar quickly shifted, tilting his head as if to hear someone better.
With almost mechanical movements, he grabbed the knife you sent into him earlier, white-knuckling the handle. With a shaky hand, he drove the knife into your chest.
“You can have that back.” He teased as blood began to bubble up your throat, threatening to spill out.
You were caught between two very different emotions – one side of you wanted to cry out, heartbroken at the fact that the man who once was your best friend just spent the last five minutes trying to kill you. The other side went straight to rage, wanting to enact a vendetta on Khonshu for destroying the man your friend once was.
Without giving you time to process, your mind went to static, eyes set aglow as Ra overtook your body.
“Return the scarab, Khonshu.” The sun god harshly requested, his deep voice causing your vocal cords to strain.
The man on top of you stilled, his eyes filling with the same holy glow yours did prior.
“No,” The god of vengeance spat, eyes narrowing, “You don’t even have the means of enacting such a plan, as if you’d even get far, being the council’s pet.” Each word rolled off the moon god’s tongue with loathing, his tone deepening as he spoke.
Ra grimaced through you, your eyebrows pulling down as your lips settled into a deep snarl.
Khonshu scoffed, pulling his staff from who knows where, raising it above his head. Ra didn’t react, almost as if ashamed of his actions thus far. It was his fault Khonshu became this way, the solar deity regretting the days he spent lobbying for the other’s exile.
“I’m sorry.” The words were rushed, tumbling out of your mouth with gauche.
Khonshu paused, head tilting ever so slightly. He quickly shook himself out of it, continuing to raise his staff.
“Send the council my regards.”
He released his staff, sending a heavy blow to your head.
Steven watched a fish that is very much not Gus swim around with a dejected gaze, completely ignoring the sprinkles he offered. Sighing, he bends down, reaching to grab the pieces of chocolate that were dumped unceremoniously onto the floor. However, something catches Steven’s eye. Poking out from under his doormat was a perfectly table-shaped chalk outline. Glancing at the wall above, he noticed a wood panel was just ever so slightly out of place. Dragging the table over, Steven stepped up onto the raised surface, using the wall to steady himself. The wood panel easily slid out of place, Steven discarding it with a hollow thunk.
Peering into the small nook revealed by the panel, he cautiously stuck his hand in, retrieving a series of objects from the wall. A key Steven had never seen before, a flip phone Steven had no recollection of ever owning, and a necklace. A familiar necklace, with a beaded metal chain and a stainless steel charm he recognized. This time, however, there was nothing to stop him from reading the name imprinted onto it.
You finally got home, almost collapsing on your bathroom countertop due to your injuries. The suit disappeared, leaving you in nothing but a pair of sweatpants and a long-sleeved shirt. You grimaced as you tore the fabric away from semi-healed wounds, moving to sit on the marble countertop. Now left just in your undergarments, you examined the mirror for the extent of the damage that remained. You were in one piece now – thanks to Ra, but now had a myriad of deep purple bruises that spanned large swathes of your skin. You looked to your chest, making sure your good luck charm was there.
As it always was, a matching beaded metal chain and a stainless steel charm adorned your neck, reading the name Marc Spector in capital letters.
"To my dearest love, my brilliant Sun,
The world has decided we can no longer be one
So you take the day and I’ll take the night
You with your happy glow, me with my cold & lonely light
It must be this way, always and forever
They say we can no longer share the sky together"

The soft glow of flames illuminated the ancient brick walls, the warm tones highlighting each dip and crack of the ancient stones within the chamber. Simple, yet elegant stone statues towered over the walls, their presence only let known by the many flames lit throughout the room. You knew every statue well, even the one behind you, which was currently out of view.
This is a place you have the misfortune of being very well acquainted with; the great pyramid of Giza.
What was every aspiring traveler's dream was quite literally your nightmare. Instead of being able to come and enjoy the great pyramids aesthetics with the stunning backdrop of the Egyptian skyline and the soft pit-pat of camel hooves on sand, your time at the pyramid was spent spectating arguments between ancient gods.
Every single night, it was the same deal all over again. Either you relive one of the worst nights of your life, or watch the exact moment the ennead lost the only god who truly cared about the people that worshipped them. Of course – Ra cared, but only because he saw Khonshu’s deeds as something to compete against. Essentially, you had two options: relive the worst night of a god’s life, or yours. Both were equally terrible.
On one hand – yours, the storyline of it all was daringly simple in comparison to an event so emotionally pungent it makes the strongest Egyptian god, the head of the ennead, turn his back on his own children. Maybe that’s what initially linked you and Ra together – on the same fateful night, you both just happened to make a series of unfortunate decisions that ended up ripping important people from both of your lives.
Tonight you were dealt the other hand, having no choice but to rewatch the night Khonshu was exiled. This was long before your time as his avatar, exacerbated by the small view of what you could see of his avatar then looked nothing like you.
The flames began to rise higher as a deep voice reverberated through the air of the chamber, causing a barely-noticeable cloud of dust to rise from the ancient brick.
“How dare you accuse me of such actions while hiding behind your cowardice.” The moon gods' furious roars echoed loudly despite the size of the room, the flames only burning brighter.
“Control your tone.” scolded a low, feminice voice.
You didn’t recognize it. Probably exiled herself and lost to time by now.
Khonshu growled in response.
“You almost exposed us!” Cried another, a vile tone lacing their words.
“Imprison him!”
The cries grew louder and louder, towers of flames threatening to reach the ceiling.
“SILENCE.” A lone voice roared, the flames immediately lowering to their previous state.
All in the chamber looked at him expectantly.
A deep-set feeling of remorseful apprehension ebbed into your flesh at your gaze was lowered to that of Khonshu. Except, this wasn’t how you felt. These were all long lost feelings once felt by one of the most powerful gods in the world – A situation so emotionally charged to make a god known for his stone cold demeanor feel empathetic for what used to be his friend. He would never seal the moon god within stone – despite their status as rivals. \
And his role in Khonshu’s deeds.
After a few deep breaths – with a shaky inhale only noticed by one trained set of eyes, the sun god raised his avatar’s head to speak,
“Get out.”

Steven felt a very strong urge to leave. After the whole debacle in the storage unit, then ‘reuniting’ with a woman who he had no recollection of, it could be pretty understandable that his fight or flight response was activated, his mind obviously siding with the latter.
“How did you find me?” he cautiously asked the woman, his awkward grip on her leather jacket tightening as she haphazardly maneuvered the busy streets of london.
“How’d you think?” She playfully teased, “I- woah!”
Her response was cut short as she suddenly swerved, a brown flash racing past them.
Steven was glad he refreshed his grip earlier.
Pay attention. Ra’s deep voice commanded within your mind.
You pulled up from the street after the near-incident, deciding to take a break from your patrols. Landing on the edge of a rooftop, you stretched out your wings, which were sore from near-nonstop flying since you lost the scarab.
This is no time for rest. Ra continued to scold, to your dismay. I found the man with the scarab.
This piqued your interest. After days of flying, Ra finally got a lead of some sort.
Follow the motorcycle!
