my hope is that IF sk does become canon that the show won't be drug through the mud so badly that it never recovers: i want that to be remembered as what it would be, a smear campaign to denigrate what was supposed to be a heartfelt attempt to create a positive storyline about an m/m romance. the other option is people not acknowledging that and the show just being spat on for the next several decades. IF sk becomes canon, that is. it's easy to predict the reaction for that, unfortunately.
Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of the damage has already been done. People in pretty much every fandom know how bad the VLD fandom is. We’re infamous for being toxic, and for spreading that toxicity to other fandoms and even to staff.
To anyone on the outside, our fandom is full of hateful anti-shippers, and pedophile/incest/abuse supporters. Many of them don’t know that a lot of the accusations are false and are unwilling to listen to an explanation of it. People don’t want to touch our fandom with a ten foot pole and can you really blame them?
I really hope that if somehow we get canon she/ith, the antis don’t kick up too big a stink. I’m sure many will have temper tantrums but hopefully it will die down quickly or they’ll be distracted by some other fandom.
I would hate for such a beautiful relationship to become canon, marking a huge step for LGBT rep in kids’ media, and then for klantis to ruin it by screaming about how it’s pedophilia or incest or unhealthy is some other way.
If it doesn’t happen, or if it’s done subtly, then I can already see the memes. Just like the “Still a better love story than Twilight”, I can see “Still better LGBT rep than VLD” becoming a thing, and honestly, that would just hurt so much.

Men being close enough friends to call each other “brother” does not make dating that friend incest.

None of us know for definite what the endgame relationships will be, but with how Keith and Lance’s relationship has been throughout the series, I can definitely say it’s not “pretty much canon”. Lance is currently in love with Allura and I don’t see that suddenly changing with one season left.
