We identify with the self that we project into the world during our waking hours - our careers and our personalities and our hobbies - even our worries and our anxieties. We feel that these are the building blocks of our true selves.
Being present with Allah is truly connecting with who you really are, especially in the last third of the night when the notion of who you are - or who you think you are - are completely tuned out.
Our fitrah does not identify with any of these projections. Our true selves are transcendent and unique. It's beyond imperative for us to figure that out. And each of our interpretations will be different.
Ask yourself why Allah told the angels to bow to you. That's been my starting point.
Islam, more than a religion, is a state of being. To be in a state of Islam, or submission, you must find moments to be present before Allah. Just like in our moments with Allah before coming into this world. We were asked, and we bore witness to His reality. In a place absent of the future or the past - completely present before God.
Presence of heart and mind is in our fitrah. Allah exists in the here and now, just as we witnessed in a previous life. The past and the future - the reason for our anxieties, regrets, and despair - are absolutely real - but they serve as temporal barriers - or pathways - between ourselves and Allah.
Belief in Allah is more than a cognitive agreement or understanding. It's being absolutely present before Him - shedding the past and the future in those few moments that we can with Him. We've all felt it before, but sometimes it's hard to articuate or fully fathom what it is.
If Israel accomplished anything it's that Muslims don't care or speak about Shia or Sunni or Sufi or wahabi or whatever anymore. Everyone just hates their nasty asses and is praying for the same thing. Came at a great cost though.
Random but if I told you that CBT was created by an Afghan physician 1200 years ago and that he documented his entire process, would you believe me? The major difference of what he taught from what is contemporary is that he stressed the heart and soul as living and breathing parts of ourselves that require our whole attention - with Islam and our relationship with Allah being central to self reflection, accountability, and healing. In practice I've always felt something was missing, particularly when speaking with non-Muslims. Protective factors that don't include Allah are vain and remiss. All self care starts with you in correlation to God.

Recently I've been trying to reframe my beliefs and my thoughts. If gone too long without doing so, thoughts naturally progress towards negative territory as we tread through life. Water becomes unclean when stagnant. Anything immobile wears down. Our Rasool taught us that faith wears out in the heart just as clothes wear out - to ask Allah to renew our faith. He taught a master class in self care.
I used to love writing but haven't done so in like 5 years. Committing to doing it much more often inshaAllah. I did it at a time when I didn't realize how much I needed it - and not out of a place of need - moreso out of a love for it. I hope to be consistent with it because for a darn psychotherapist and social worker I don't practice much on myself lmao
Salams, Wanted to say please feel free to share your thoughts and writing as you see fit. A lot of us have grown and changed over the years and our past selves don't resonate with who we are now. Sometimes we are more comfortable with where we are now and sometimes we wish we could go back to who we were. It's all part of the journey, and I wish you the best on yours. Eid Mubarak:)
Walaikom as Salam, I appreciate you. I'm mostly apprehensive of my writing becoming a confrontation towards myself that I'm not even ready for. Regardless your message is true and beautiful. There are no highs without lows though it's tough to see sometimes. Eid Mubarak to you too.
Myself and everyone I know done fell off their deen I swear. Anyone else feel like that?
Thinking well of God starts with thinking well of yourself.

Hi
Hi is everyone alive and well and thriving and everything?
Reminder that God got you and always has and always will and the difficulties of this world are just really quick and though they're painful, they're written to end just as they're written to begin. If the problems of this world change you let it change you for the best and always remind yourself of who and what you don't want to become. Sometimes sincere intention comes from sincere hope and you're tasked with just being real and being you and being wonderful with a heart full of trust that God got you, always.
I hope you and your family have been well. Your posts are deeply missed. I hope we can read some of your thoughts soon!
inshaAllah friend I'm around

Feel like classism is more prevalent among arabs than racism? Like look at how Egyptians are treated in khaleeji countries despite the fact that they're both *arab*.
Arabs are a mess and are guilty of all sorts of isms lol. Also the Arab identity is misunderstood, misinterpreted, and misinformed.
Pan-Arabian nationalism is a relatively new thing and it isn't real. It kind of masks over issues and divisions and histories in that part of the world that have always existed and creates a false sense of unity. Arabian nationalism was only created as a response to the threat of Zionism; which is natural. But it's very surface level and false. What the heck an Arab actually is requires a lot more digging.
Anyways idk man don't listen to me
Never get tired of asking God to guide you in the right direction.
