Anita Touko Matsumoto January 27, 1994 - Sun in Aquarius, Moon in Leo ESTP Born in Aspertia Hometown: Nuvema Father - Hoenn-Unovan (Mr. Matsumoto) - In the family business of Real Estate Mother - Italian-Unovan (Ms. Grasso) - Lawyer Mom and Dad separated amicably when she was in Kindergarten. Her dad moved to Nuvema, while her mom stayed in Aspertia. At the beginning, she would go to Aspertia on the weekends to be with her mom, but by high school, she would only visit during winter and summer breaks. She’s not as close to her mom as she is to her dad (despite being told that she is very much like her), so she never really connected with her mother’s side of the family, her culture, or her first name for that matter. She preferred to go by Touko ever since. (Not really important side note about her parents, but they weren’t married and there was a big age gap? Dad’s family wanted to keep the kid, Mom wasn’t ready for a kid, so dad’s family kinda made a deal with her that they would provide her support to finish college as long as she gave Dad custody. Mom obviously hates Dad’s family, but Dad had lingering feelings for her. Welp. Touko and her dad have a pretty good relationship, but some time after she went on her journey, her dad started dating and now has a new family and she's just like *shrugs* about her stepmom and step-sibs/half-sib, but anyway!) She was better at Japanese when she was younger, but as she got older, she forgot more of it. She still can understand it. Despite having a Japanese name and a Japanese dad, she looks more white than Japanese, which idk, maybe she got picked on for or for the fact that she doesn’t have a mom but either way she got some thick skin right away and was ready to fight with anyone who tried to make her feel bad about who she is. (See: punching Touya when he said something sexist -) Touko met Mei during one of her visits to her mom in Aspertia. She spent more of her time hanging out with the neighborhood kids than with her mom anyway, so becoming friends with Mei was like the best part of the weekends (and later on, her school breaks). She was definitely really athletic; I can see her being on several teams in high school: volleyball, lacrosse, track and field(so she’d always get on Cheren’s case haha). Would fall asleep in class a lot, but did pretty average - enough to stay in her extracurriculars. She actually liked math out of all her classes? Because it’s straightforward she might as well be able to do it in her sleep, she says. Whenever someone tries to pull the “Asian” card, she gets pissed. She’s also interested in economics, it just seems to make sense to her. (Actually, she is pretty good with money. LMAO I JUST REALIZED HER NEW INITIALS = ATM) History is pretty interesting too. English and Science tied for her least favorite subjects. She would try to get Cheren to let her copy his homework, but instead ended up with getting tutoring from him. She isn’t really sure what she wants to do after high school, so college or getting a job aren’t really ideal for her. Instead she goes on her pokemon journey with her friends. Ends up running into N the most out of the four of the kids, so she ends up trusting him the most (probably ended up having that whole ferris wheel scene with him oops). Touko was competitive; battling was her favorite part of going on her journey. She would go out of her way to have a friendly match, even exchanging numbers with other trainers to hit her up for a battle once in a while. There was one guy she met at the Ferris wheel during the summer - she was pretty sure the ace trainer got a crush on her, and he was pretty cute - and battled him. It was early on in her journey, but she kind of lost touch with him during the rest of her journey. His name was Austin. She gets a thrill out of the Battle Subway so much, she ropes Touya into trying it out with her. They end up getting close because of this (they were really in sync and stuff haha). They travel for a bit together after that, and start dating. She ends up collecting all of the badges and defeats the Elite Four, but she never battles the champion (she didn’t intend to go to the Pokemon League after she realized how much she really loved the Battle Subway, but she had to battle the E4 to get to where Touya was and help him fight off N and Ghetsis). After she helps find the Seven Sages, she travels on her own to try to find N, but gives up. Since Touko ended up not falling off the face of the earth as completely as Touya and N did during the time between BW and BW2 events, I wanna say that she kept in touch with Cheren and Bianca a lot better. Bianca got really busy with working with Juniper and taking classes part time, while Cheren had a bunch of stuff going on. I wanna at least believe they would call or skype and meet up and have lunch every once in a while. It got easier once Touko came back. During the first summer after BW events, she runs into the guy she met at the beginning of it. He remembers her well, too, and they chat, and battle. He was thinking about asking her on a date until she mentioned somehow through their conversation that she’s seeing someone so, hopes dashed. She tells him she hopes they can stay in touch. He kinda wants that too, even though he says he’ll only be around for the summer - and doesn’t explain why. But she hopes that they can see each other every summer. (Spoilers: she misses the next summer w h o o p s - but I wouldn’t be making this headcanon if I wasn’t gonna make Austin play a bigger role in this do de do) She goes back to the Battle Subway. She never wanted to become Pokemon Champion or anything, but she loved battling, so it felt like the right challenge for her. But then she won all the challenge trophies and it got boring (especially when her usual battle partner for the multi-train challenges WAS STILL TRYING TO FIND N). So, she started taking up odd jobs, mainly in food or retail. Eventually, she starts working at Striaton Cafe. Cress started flirting with her, not deterred by Touya. She actually liked flirting with him, and eventually caved and started dating Cress about a year into Touya’s absence (without properly breaking up with him ‘cause… Well, how do you break up with someone who doesn’t contact you enough?). She resisted Cress’s advances for a while, but she missed the more physical parts of being in a relationship? Like, she really, really isn’t made for long-distance relationships. Cress treated her pretty well, Almost too well? He pampered her a lot, and she liked it at the beginning. During the next summer, when she was supposed to meet up with Austin again, Mei called her asking for her help. Since she didn’t start her journey with Nate and Hyuu, she wanted to catch up. Touko jumped at the chance to help. (She lowkey wanted to help her destroy Cheren since she knew that the dude would come back soon from his silly study abroad semester). Mei developed a crush on her while she was mentoring her, but nothing really came out of it. By the time Touya shows up again, she panicked, but didn’t bring it up right away. In fact, I don’t know if she ever flat out told him that he cheated on him? Touya would’ve had to find out somehow, but whether or not he did, she did miss Touya. Just. Her romantic feelings for him were gone. She tried to reignite the spark with him, but she was kind of bored with him and tbroke it off. She was still dating Cress throughout this, and she still liked him, but this was when the pampering started to be too much for her. Add in the guilt she felt about cheating on Touya, and she just felt like she needed a break from being in a relationship. So, she ended up breaking up with Cress too. When N shows up post-BW2 events, she confuses her feelings for N as romantic rather than platonic and they date for a brief time before they both realize nah haha good try. Touko ends up becoming a temp for a new Unovan chain cafe location that a relative started up, but when she feels like it’s not what she wants to do, she bails. She’s good with managing, and she learned to find cooking fun, and the cafe is doing really well, but it’s too mundane for her. She’s a battler, after all. She doesn’t like staying inside most of the time. She actually put in her two week’s notice after Christmas break. She’s been making her rounds at PWT and the Black Tower, but she’s itching to get on the Battle Subway again because she just realized all these years, she is missing the trophy from the Super Multi Trains. (Two years ago, Touya and Touko completed the Multi Trains together.) She hasn’t found a good enough partner, so she’s been trying to get Touya to do it with her, which is leading to some… interesting tension between them. Recently, she’s been lowkey Cheren’s workout buddy since Alder thinks that he’s pretty much done as much as he can with him (and lbr both Cheren and Touko know that Cheren wouldn’t work out if he didn’t have someone to drag him to the gym). Touko’s main team hasn’t changed too much since her journey; of course she has some pokemon in her box, but her pokedex isn’t the most complete by a long-run.
