Pretty basic recording. Stereo pair of CharterOak E700s, stereo mic (R88mk2) from AEA as our room mic. The R88 was going into an ADL 600, and the CharterOaks was going into a Rascal Two-V preamps. For mixing I have reverb going only to the ribbon mic to add the darker space and time difference. A lot of folks are worried about doing stereo recordings, fearful of the mistakes they make that are recorded forever. But the moment you've captured should really inspire you, the "Stella by Starlight's" or the songs you nail on a single run through after not singing it for 6 weeks. We recorded 12 songs in about 8 hours and spent about 2 hours working on small sections that could have been cleaner. Multitrack recording just takes so much longer and there's so much more mixing to do. If you rehearse like a quartet, you should record like a quartet. Have you seen Stella by starlight? Arrangement by Jeremy Johnson, sung by Midnight Croon. Cool story about this recording, we recorded this song at the end of our first session. 3/4's of the quartet was coming off being sick, and their voices were relatively spent at the fourth hour mark, where we had five hours booked. They hadn't rehearsed the song in months, and they recorded it in one or two takes. I asked them if they wanted to rerecord it in their second session. "No way, the performance of that song was a special moment for the quartet. Learn from the best, be the worst musician in the room. Learning what it sounds like when you're there helps your technique later. Since I think 2015 or 2016, I've been doing the old faithful of CharterOak E700s to the Mäag PreQ4s. Naw man, not today. Trying out the Rascal Two V's! Had an issue with the last one and both Rascal Audio AND SoundPure Studios took care of me. Love getting great service, makes it feel less of a Consumer - Provider transaction and more a friendly transaction. #recording my high school's orchestra again, and will be doing a stereo set of SDCs on a baby grand piano.

Recorded the Lake Zurich High School Wind Ensemble tonight! Directed by Josh Thompson, we plowed through two hours of recording. Shout outs to the kids for putting in the extra time from school to do this session. This was the first time I did a 6 channel recording!
