Oh how his eyes lit up at that last comment, “That’s cool as hell! I bet you’re super strong then, huh? bet you could beat me in a fight, easy.”

The kid was way too cocky for his own good. Of course she could beat him, anyone could, albeit as long as the other Nico didn’t make an appearance. That other personality of his lacked all boundaries. Luckily, the other Nico only showed their face when Nico was in danger.

“Fighting’s kinda fun though, isn’t it? I used to fight with other kids for food and stuff.”

Rin gave a little chuckle, “I mean I have a few more years experience, so I think I would.”

She understood that confidence well. She had been full of it for years. Of course, that confidence was certainly a factor that had gotten her into a lot of trouble, but it could be fine as long as she kept him out of trouble. Hopefully, she could teach him some caution despite her lack of it.

“It can be. I prefer to spar, but survival is a must. Do you still have to struggle for that stuff?”

“It’s nothing to worry about, okay?” Rin spoke as she bandaged her arm.

She never expected her father to be randomly brought up, but those officers... Even if it meant risking blowing her cover, she couldn’t just let them call him a coward. A deserter. She certainly wasn’t going to let them get away with saying he was “probably better off dead.” Fighting them didn’t make her feel better. In fact, she knew she only put herself in more danger if they weren’t too drunk to remember her face. She could only hope they were, but she had to be prepared to ditch town at a moment’s notice again. All these thoughts were a constant plague, but she couldn’t just burden some random kid with them. It was her problem and he had enough to worry about for his own safety.
