Although Bellamy had been here for several months now, it was still difficult to not remember everything that he had been through with Clarke, Bellamy tried not to reminisce, but it was impossible. Although Clarke many times had told him she was proud of him, that did not disperse the pain. Leaving Clarke on the ground was a decision he’d take back in a heart beat, even if it meant leaving the the rest of the spacekru and himself to eminent death. Years ago when they took a day trip in search for supplies, Bellamy never admitted out-loud but a large part of him wanted to take Clarke and run. Even if it meant leaving behind others, much like his subconscious feelings had desired for the last years. But Bellamy could never do that, he couldn’t leave his people.
For Six years , Bellamy had forgotten how to live and think with his heart, instead he thought with his head, the only way to survive, just as Clarke had said those years ago before they were separated. He had grown close to all of them in space and Bellamy would do anything for his friends, but they were not Clarke Griffin, nobody was. The spacekru had been there for him, and Bellamy needed to remind himself that when he found Clarke alive. It was easy to put her above everyone, as he had always done. But it couldn’t be like that anymore, which is what made her own decisions more heartbreaking.
Truthfully Bellamy wished he could completely forgive Clarke but he couldn’t. Madi had told him of the radio calls but Bellamy could let go of Clarke leaving him in the ring, where he could have died. That anger still stabs at the unhealed wound if he thinks about it long enough. Forgiveness has always been difficult for him. One of the mere reasons, he can’t even look at his sister now. To some extent he still loves her but, too much as happened. There are decisions that Clarke has made in the past that Bellamy did not always agree with but, nonetheless he was still by her side and knowing that did not stand true with her, hurt. Once Earth was destroyed again they were forced into Cyro sleep for over a century.
They had once again reunited a few weeks back and it certainly did not go as planned, but he tried not to think about it. It did not good. Holidays weren’t really his thing. There was never time for that, in fact Bellamy can’t even remember celebrating his own birthday. Maybe one or two times if that. Life had been about survival and these Earth traditions seemed unavailing and pointless, but nonetheless Crake had a desire to decorate a Christmas tree for whatever reason.
As Bellamy’s built body stood tall, his dark brown hues glance at the green bare tree. His eyebrow lifted, with the nook of his mouth curling into a smirk. “ And we are doing this why princess?” The perplexed question fell as he looked at box of ornaments resting on the table. “ I’m not sure how you convinced me to this” He shook his head, knowing very well how. It was always difficult to say no to her, even when she was being ridiculous or overbearing “ How about we get that drink and we call it even?. “ The teasing words split from the brim of the male’s mouth.
Clarke knew Bellamy thought this was a ridiculous idea, she’d known before she’d even broached the topic with him. And it made sense, his lack of excitement for the holiday. It wasn’t as if it was tradition for either of them. Even if it had been, life since the dropship rarely gave them enough time to sit down around a fire for a meal, let alone much else. Life in the midst of war rarely included moments of solitude, and even when it did, Clarke’s solitude had not involved much celebrating, instead they were some of her lowest moments, ones she did not look back on with fondness or longing but with guilt and regret.
And even in those six years apart, years without the bloodshed, time was still spent on survival. Perhaps it was easier in space, once they’d gotten a routine down, but the ground had never been so kind. The Ark had its faults, she would admit, but she would have given anything to be up there with them, even if for just a day. No radiation, no sandstorms; Just them, just a family.
She’d dream of it, sometimes, in the early days. A way to cope, she would later realize. She’d dream of the artificial air, the barren rooms, the hauntingly quiet halls, the less than appetizing meals. But she dreamed of the other stuff, too. Of listening to Raven mutter and curse about things she didn’t understand, but she’d smile because it would remind her of her dad grumbling about his work when she was little. She’d look out at the stars with Monty and Harper, talk about their day as they watched the ground from their window. She’d help Emori and Echo get accustomed to life in space, whether it was aiding them in the med bay with vitamin deficiencies or something as simple as helping them pass the time around the ring.
She dreamed about him, too. How could she not? He was her best friend, her anchor, her family. Even during those rough times, when he couldn’t bear to look at her for leaving, he was still one of the only reasons she had made it as long as she had. So of course she dreamed of him. She dreamed of hushed meetings in their quarters, sometimes his, sometimes hers, crunching numbers and discussing plans until they fell asleep on one another. She dreamed of the heavy weight of his hand on her shoulder when she looked out the window and thought of her mom, how she left without a goodbye. She dreamed of his arms being the only thing holding her up on her worst days, holding onto him because it was all she could do to keep sane.
Except dreams weren’t real, and as Bellamy’s voice roused her from those thoughts, she was reminded of what was real, and reality never had been that kind. She managed to offer up a small smile at the question. ‘Because, after all this time, after everything we’ve been through, we could use a little hope.’ Clarke responded, voice a little too soft and vulnerable. She cleared her throat, eliminating the traces of longing stuck in her voice. 'There’s eggnog in the kitchen.' Clarke countered, eyes finally finding his. 'I’m not really sure what it is but apparently it’s spiked. Let’s just hope it goes down better than moonshine.’
