Jim Morrison Documentary in the Works

A new Jim Morrison documentary, based in part on recently discovered personal diaries and home movies, is in the works.
The film is being developed by Gunpowder & Sky studio and Morrison’s estate, Variety reports.
“While there have been documentaries on Morrison and the Doors before, and, of course, Oliver Stone’s 1991 biopic on the band, the new film is the first documentary devoted solely to Morrison sanctioned by the estate - with full access to all Morrison’s music, poetry and art,” said a post on the Facebook page run by the estate.
Details, such as a title and release date, will come later, Morrison’s estate said.
“Stay tuned,” the post read. “The upcoming feature-length documentary, which will focus on the totality of Jim Morrison's artistry, will be a marvel of the icon’s place cemented in history.”
Morrison died 50 years ago on July 1, 1971, at 27, making the film and a just-released Doors app timely additions to self-described Lizard King’s legacy.
Said app - the Doors.ai - has been under development for two years and includes features such as this day in band history; lyrics; concert reviews; quotes; and more. It’s band-endorsed and curated by the group’s archivist, Robby Krieger said in a Facebook post.
“This isn't just another regurgitation of old Doors’ stories; this is new Doors content culled from decades of research and personal experiences you won't find anywhere else,” he said.
