last night at around 8:30 i noticed my 8-9 year old adopted lionhead rabbit was breathing funny. (we don’t know his exact age because he is a rescue with little info, but i’ve had him for about 7 years) his name is paisley and he’s brown and super cute and fluffy, also an anxious wreck. to my horror. he was stiff and running a high fever. both of his eyes were blood-shot and bulging out, he was having a very hard time breathing and did not want to be touched. i tried everything. called everywhere, but there was a giant snowstorm at the moment and i couldn’t get anywhere because of the roads. eventually his eyes started fogging up and had discharge leaking from them, leading me to think it was an infection. he has a partner, pandora, who he loves very much and she relies on him very much. the best thing at the time would be just to leave the two together and hope he would make it to the morning. at around 1 am, after staying up all night keeping a careful eye on him, he started becoming more frantic and i knew that this was it. i held him in my arms and he peacefully passed. then, i went to bed, after setting up a space for pandora in my room. i had countless extremely vivid dreams where i woke up (in the dream not in real life) and he was fine, running around the house. i have a feeling this was his way of telling me he was okay and that i shouldn’t worry.

i gave this bunny possibly the best life he could ever ask for, and boy was he a happy rabbit. we called him bean for a nickname due to how much he looks like bean the bunny from the muppets! i hope he’s hopping happily up in bunny heaven, along with my childhood netherland dwarf rabbit, jojo.
