Sango sighed as she sat by the the river. The clear blue water shined in the sunlight while the fish swam around, but that did nothing to liven up her mood. It only reminded her of the people she couldn't save. She rested her arms on her knees remembering how Naraku had used her family as a toy for his game. Kohaku.
She thought about the new demon slayer out on his own under Naraku's control. They weren’t supposed to be like this, they were all supposed to return home after the demon was defeated. her hand reached for her heart as it tugged at the thought of her younger brother out there alone. She was going to save him and avenge her village, even if she had to die trying, she would rid the world of Naraku.
She sighed laying her head on her arms watching as the water flowed steadily, crashing small waves into the rocks that peeked out from the river. Birds chirping from the trees above as the day continued to pass her by. She was now traveling with very odd group to hunt the man down and honestly she was surprised they’d allow her to come after she tried to murder the half demon companion, Inuyasha.
He confused her. He was a half demon and should’ve tried to kill her when she fought him. She was an easy target then, but he only dodged her attacks and listened to her plight. He even got the truth for her so that her families deaths wouldn’t be in vain. Who was this Inuyasha? Why did he want to understand her? Why didn’t he let her die there?
She could feel the tears slowly falling down her cheeks and she quickly wiped them away as soon as she heard the soft footsteps walking up to her. She didn't turn to her guest, and continued in her quiet mourning until the footsteps reached her. The sound of shuffling fabric alerted her that they took the spot next to her. Both sat there for awhile watching the sun emit a golden orange and pink hue over the clearing. She was still turned away from the guest, refusing to meet their gaze.
Inuyasha watched the sunset next to the demon slayer, he understood her pain and wished he could say something to help. He knew yelling at her to get better to go kick Naraku's ass wasn't quite the right approach at the moment, or telling her that she was too weak before would get him hit with the large boomerang. He thought back to his own experience with the demon. When Naraku tricked him and Kikyo into attacking each other he’d hated her for decades, only to find out she was attacked by Naraku as him in disguise. Things would have been different for them if it wasn’t for the black haired demon.
Now it only caused him pain to think about how he’d hurt her because he was tricked. She died without knowing the truth and it haunted him now that she walked the earth again hating him. He heard the soft sobs beside him and he continued to look out at the scenery before him. A slight breeze rustled the trees and he knew that he truly wanted revenge for the love that was stolen from him.
She had only been with the group a few days now and they just mostly been letting her recover while they got more supplies. After Naraku killed her family and village, enslaved her brother and tried to get her to kill Inuyasha for him; it was only a matter of time before she broke down. So they just sat there, until the sun disappeared in favor of the moon high in the sky.
"Inuyasha!" A woman's voice call from the other side of the hill they sat on. "It's getting late where could he have gone?"
Sango glanced over, she half expected it to be Kagome who came to comfort her, or even the monk. Yet here he was again, sitting next to her with his eyes closed and arms folded over his chest. Brushing herself off she stood, ready to make her way back to the camp. "Thank you." His ear twitched at the sound, but other than that he didn't move. She gave a soft smile and began walking back leaving him at the river bank by his lonesome.
Inuyasha watched her walk away, taking note of the slight limp in her left leg. She had told them this morning that she was fit and able to begin journeying. He sighed scratching the back of his head knowing that would slow them all down if her leg was still messed up. "Inuyasha!" Kagome called again.
