Short Bio
{ Devon calls himself a mage of Sigil, and although City of Doors doesn’t have any true academy of magic, the title is often used by spellcasters who simply live there. That alone should mark him as a powerful individual, although he lacks the level of pomposity of more famous mages. As many residents of the city, he wasn’t born there, arriving to the ‘center of the multiverse’ much later in his life. If asked about the reason, he rarely gives a clear answer and mentions only a desire to search for new opportunities.
He originally comes from Baldur’s Gate; the only son of a noble family of Rinsorns, he’s a rightful owner of the family crest and has a right to use a title of a lord – which he never does by his own choice. He received his first magical training in the famous towered library fortress of Candlekeep, like most Baldurians who wished to pursue an academic career and proved themselves to be promising enough to earn a place there. Despite being a diviner, he chose to follow the path of an Arcane Scholar. It may be surprising, considering how dissimilar two areas of arcane interest are and Devon himself seems to much prioritize the Weave studies over his own magical specialization.
He identifies himself as a sage, first and foremost, and values knowledge, artifacts and all things magical above everything else – no matter where he can get it or from who. Living in Sigil, it was easy for him to frequently visit other Planes and come back with rare items or tomes to add to his collection. The passionate devotion to his studies can be admirable, but he won’t back away from unimaginable ruthlessness and cruelty to achieve his aim. For Devon, the end justifies the means in all cases, and moral codes or compunctions only prevent actions from being truly effective and beneficial.
During fighting, he displays frightening fierceness that is usually more common for impulsive sorcerers than methodological wizards. It’s hard to say if this style of combat comes more from his character or his ability to manipulate magical energy from the Weave more easily and effectively than an average wizard, thanks to his specialization as an Arcane Scholar. Whenever he feels he can afford it, he uses more power than is needed to destroy an enemy in a spectacular fashion.
Ironically, for all his apparent lack of a clear moral code, Devon detests necromancers and Necromancy with a raging, blind passion, bordering on pure rabidity. He sees undeath as a state fouling the order of all existence. He questions Necromancy’s qualification as a proper magic school, denying its true importance and power, and constantly highlights immoral aspects of such practices. In Sigil he is known on certain streets for randomly killing a few necromancers on sight in an extremely sadistic way. Rumors speak even of one lich that was unlucky enough to cross his path, but no one is sure if that’s true. Devon doesn’t use spells from the Necromancy school as a rule and reacts very poorly when they are casted in his presence. }

I think that’s what happens when you’ve lived a lonely childhood. You get too attached to people as you get older, in the hope that they’ll give you the care and love that you missed out on and never leave you.

Sometimes people try to destroy you, precisely because they recognize your power — not because they don’t see it, but because they see it and they don’t want it to exist.
