You drove Spencer home after work and insisted that you walk him to the front door; you are a gentlewoman after all.
When you got to his door, you both stopped in front of it.
“Thank you for driving me home; you know I could have just taken the bus like I usually do,” Spencer says sheepishly.
“It's really no problem; I like being in your company, so the pleasure is all mine,” you admit.
“You like being in my company?” Spencer asks, clearly a bit confused.
“Yes, I do. I like hearing you ramble on about something I know nothing about.”
“You do?” You can hear the surprise in his voice, and it breaks your heart a little bit, knowing that people usually tune him out or tell him to stop when he's rambling on about something. “It's just that most people tell me I’m annoying when I do that.” Spencer explains.
“Well, most people are idiots.” You say
Spencer smiles. “You’re right about that.”
His smile might just be the most beautiful thing about him. You loved the way he smiled with his whole face, his eyes, cheeks, and somehow also his forehead.
You both stand there silent and smiling for a beat until you lean in and press a tender kiss to his lips without even thinking. Then you immediately pull away, slamming one hand over your mouth with a gasp as your eyes grow wide.
“I shouldn't have done that. I’m so sorry, Spence.”
Spencer was in too much shock to say anything. All he could do was stare at you with his big brown eyes.
God, those eyes. They were like black holes; if you got sucked in, you couldn't get out.
That was exactly what happened to you. You couldn't tear your eyes away from his. You couldn't even move; you were too mortified by what you had done.
You wish you could take it back.
Spencer didn't say anything, which fueled your doubts even further.
After only a couple of seconds, your adrenaline-fueled body decided to choose flight. You were never the type to stay and fight—freeze sometimes, but never fight.
You ran away. Maybe it was cowardice or maybe it was grief for the inevitable end of your friendship. You had, after all, ruined two good years of friendship by kissing Spencer.
He would never look at you the same.
You thought you heard him calling your name, but everything was so blurry. Maybe it was the tears or the tunnel vision you had.
“Just get to the car, just get to the car, just get to the car,” you repeat to yourself.
Once you got in the car, you wanted so desperately to break down and cry, but you were scared Spencer might follow you to your car, so you decided to hold out until you got home—or just someplace else that was not Spencer's place.
You started driving, and before you knew it, you were parked in front of Penelope’s place. She always knew how to comfort you.
You managed to temporarily quell your breakdown while you drove, but as soon as you ring Penelope’s doorbell, you find warm trickles of tears start to stream down your cheek.
Penelope opens the door, and upon seeing the state you’re in, immediately pulls you in for a hug.
“Oh honey, what's wrong?” She says after hugging you for a while.
You wipe away your tears. Though it proves futile, as new tears just come in place of the ones wiped away.
You don't know what to tell Penelope. How do you tell her that you ruined your friendship with Spencer by kissing him and being so stupid as to think he would kiss you back?
“How about I make us some tea?” Penelope offers as she leads you to her couch.
You manage a small hum and a nod in agreement.
As Penelope prepares your tea, you manage to compose yourself enough to at least tell your friend the reason for your showing up at her door unannounced, bawling your eyes out.
“I… kissed Spencer,” you manage with a hoarse voice.
“You did WHAT?!” Your friend exclaims.
“And now I've ruined everything.” You hide your face in your palms and fight the tears threatening to run down your cheeks again.
You stayed at Penelope’s for about an hour. You drank tea, and she comforted you; she even managed to make you forget about Spencer for a little while. That is, until you had to go home.
You couldn't help thinking self-deprecating thoughts during the car ride home. How could you be so stupid as to think Spencer Reid would want to kiss you? He is way out of your league.
By the time you parked your car in front of your apartment complex, you had created a sort of mantra. “Stupid. Fucking. Idiot” was repeated at least every 10 seconds.
All of a sudden, a voice interrupted your mantra.
“You’re neither stupid nor an idiot.” The voice says with a hint of melancholy.
Much to your surprise, you look up and find that the voice belongs to Spencer.
Surprised and at a loss for words, the only thing you can think of to say is “Spencer.”
After a short silence, you follow it up with, “What are you doing here?”
“I came to talk to you,” Spencer says.
“Why?” was all you managed to reply.
Spencer huffs in disbelief. “You kissed me, and then you ran away like I was infected with the plague or something.”
You bite your lip in guilt. That was indeed exactly what you had done.
Spencer shifts on his feet. “Why did you run away?”
There was a hint of something in his voice. You hadn't noticed it right away, but it was there. Clear as day. He was hurt. Of course your careless actions had hurt him. And now he has come to tell you off for it.
“You didn’t kiss me back.” You answer, but it sounds more like a question than you intended it to be.
Spencer lets out another huff. “Well, I wasn’t exactly able to when you ran off faster than the speed of light the second you pulled your lips from mine.”
You opened your mouth to say something, only to close it again.
“I… I'm sorry.” You manage to say after a short silence, your face now burning with shame.
“I wanted to, though,” Spencer half-whispers.
“Wanted to do what?”
“Kiss you back! Christ, you really are clueless.” Spencer admits, his voice now almost an octave above what was normal for him.
“Oh,” you say quietly.
He just told you he wanted to kiss you back, and all you could say was, Oh?! You couldn’t even muster a whole sentence for him! You found yourself repeating your aforementioned mantra in your head again.
“I mean, you could do it… right now.” You say, your confidence now growing.
“Kiss you back?” Spencer asks
“...yes,” you reply.
“Well, I'm nervous to do it now,” he admits.
Right then and there you decided that you would have to take matters into your own hands; only this time you weren't going to run away.
You take a step closer to him, though you admit you were already kind of close to him to begin with, but now you could almost make out his heartbeat through his dress shirt. You place your hand on the back of his neck and lean in for the kiss.
This time, Spencer kisses you back straight away.
“Hey, you didn't run away this time.” Spencer jokes when you pull away, smiling with his whole face.
“Shut your mouth, genius.” You say, trying to sound serious, but you can't seem to hold back your smile.

Tbh when i was like 5 minutes in i thought i had failed and so the whole time i was trying not to cry. Also the instructor told me to go out on exit nr 4 at a roundabout and APPARENTLY I CAN NOT COUNT so i went out nr 3 and she said “you went out nr 3 there but thats ok just take the next turn to the left” AND THEN I DIDNT TAKE THE TURN. Also at one point i was at a red light and i was really trying to not cry and then the song because i got high came on the radio and i almost bashed my head against the steering wheel. I got 7 minus points and you can only get 10 max so it was close but i did it!
Also immidiately when came home i started crying and then i also cried when i got to school because that was the most stressful experience of my life oml.
I headcanon that since Spencer always wears mismatched socks he probably doesn’t fold them or put them away neatly, I think he just shoves them in his drawer (obviously not crumpled up because he doesn’t want wrinkly socks). Hes a germaphobe clean-freak but that does not mean he is a neat-freak
