“By the time this event is over, I’ll be lucky if I still manage to fit in my dress.” Clementine commented jokingly as she picked up yet another d’oeuvre. She’d consumed so many already it was a wonder she had any more room left in her stomach.

"I did hear some are wearing stretchy pants and I so wish to exchange outfits with them,” Rose admitted. She had no plans to stop snacking though. “Anyway, I’m sure by the time you’re full most won’t notice if you suddenly have a food baby,” she comforted the other.

“You know I have two left feet and yet you’re willing to risk it by dancing with me? Now, now, Rosie, who would’ve thought that you’re so daring,” August teased as he pulled his girlfriend closer. No matter how he tried to be careful, it was more possible than not that something was going to go wrong. But at least Rose seemed to be aware of it and knew what she signing up for.

Rose chuckled at his teasing, always enjoying how he was able to joke at his own expense. She supposed she was still learning how to do that since she always seemed so serious. “I know, I know, I live such a risky life,” she sighed dramatically. “Who knows what will I do next, maybe go bungee jumping?” She wondered out loud. 

“I know, I know, this is such a comfy costume,” Jia grinned, although that was not visible from underneath her outfit. “I could doze off and no one would notice, I absolutely love it! It’s warm too, so it’s a bit like wearing pjs. I don’t think I could ever come up with anything better,” she continued gushing.

"I am truly jealous, Jia,” Rose assured her friend. She had no idea how long her whole make-up took after she had stopped counting after three hours. And she didn’t even want to think how long it was going to take to get it all off. “Next year you’re choosing my costume too, promise me that.”

“Yeah, I know, I’m practically unrecognisable with this hair,” Alastair replied, pointing to his now silvery locks, “Don’t let it be said that Alastair Watson doesn’t go all out for Halloween. I mean, it’s not nearly as elaborate as my Iron Man costume but it’s pretty good right?”

"Now you know how you’re going to look when you’re elderly,” she pointed out. “And it’s not a bad look,” she added, winking at Alastair. “It’s a cool costume, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone dressed up as Danny Phantom in recent years.”

“I think so! Personally, I think it tastes a little sweeter than normal ice cream, but I also have a huge sweet tooth.” Phoebe shrugged at Rose’s last statement. “That’s okay! Vegan is definitely not for everyone.”

"Oh, so is there more sugar inside? I can already hear my mother telling me to not come near,” Rose chuckled. When she was a kid, her father and uncles often helped her sneak candy behind her mother’s back, although she was never really obsessed with sweets.

James handed his cousin her drink and sat down with his own tea across from her, “So how’s work going? I imagine you can’t tell me much but you’re enjoying it?” He asked. Being a new dad three times over had made it difficult to get out as much as he would have liked so he wanted to catch up with his family.

"It’s exciting and challenging, but I love it. Sometimes I do wish I could work normal hours, but I also realise that I’m lucky to even work in that department,” Rose replied, then took a small sip of her drink. “Do show me the new baby pics and tell me all about what’s going on in your life! I feel as if I haven’t seen enough cuteness recently.”

rose: grandma molly invited you for dinner tomorrow so please please please do not overindulge tonight

“I don’t know about you but I plan on hunting down all the Americans and getting them to buy me a drink,” Laurel announced with a mischievous grin. “I’m not Scottish but they can barely tell the difference between all the different accents in the UK so I think I’ll be fine,” the brunette shrugged, knocking back her drink. “You better not go around telling them my secrets now though,” she added, poking the other in the shoulder. 

"My lips are sealed,” Rose promised, chuckling at Laurel’s idea. “Please do keep track and let me know tomorrow how many drinks you managed to get. I’m sure it could easily be in hundreds, but I also want you to live,” she added, grinning. 

“Okay, I found it,” Phoebe said, showing the small pint of vegan ice cream. “This is the best brand and best flavor ever. You are going to love it, I promise. Shall I grab two spoons?”

"Does it actually taste like ice cream? I’ve heard different opinions and I cannot say I cannot wait to try it,” Rose said carefully. “Oh, and there’s no way I’ll become vegan, or even vegetarian, thought you should know just in case,” she quickly added. She always liked her steaks, but now she enjoyed them even more.

“Shit sorry, did you need something?” Adeline asked, looking up, “I’m on my break. Is the other bartender not there?”

"I’m pretty sure he just hit himself with a bottle trying to do a trick, thought you should know,” Rose explained, rubbing the spot between her eyes. She was clearly not impressed by the other’s behaviour, but she was not going to judge him too much.

“I did but I finished it,” Seb said, pulling his bottle out so he could try and get any remaining drops out of it, “Since when have you been so fit? You definitely used to get out of breath at the same rate as I did.”

"Do you need some of mine? I don’t mind,” she offered, handing him her bottle. Sharing was better than letting him faint or something. “Not sure, I just started working out from time to time and I got better. Maybe you should give it a try?”

“Wanting to keep yourself busy is fine but creating work for the sake of it happens to be a waste of time. You might as well find something more worthwhile to do.” But then Iris supposed she always felt like she never had enough time to complete everything, like everything could be done a little better. 

"To each of their own I suppose. I happen to be great at time management so everything has its allocated time,” Rose shrugged. She could be flexible, but she needed at least couple of hours to change her plans and not feel bad about missing something. 

“There is absolutely no way I am doing that again,” Seb replied, collapsing in a heap on the grass. He spoke as if he were out of breath, because he was, and tried his best to catch it, “Listen, I consider myself to be in good shape but that was just… excruciating. How do people work out like that every day?”

“I did tell you to bring water,” Rose reminded Sebastian. She just couldn’t help herself with the whole ‘I told you so’. “I guess some just have too much energy and need to let it out in some way. Can’t say I have thought much about it,” she shrugged.

“I know that you’ve made your decision but I also feel as though it’s my duty to warn you as a decent human being that it’s a terrible one.” Iris found herself calling out to them after only a moments pondering over whether it was a good idea or not. 

"I know it’s going to create more work but I don’t actually mind. I enjoy being busy,” Rose replied. She preferred being focused on whatever she was doing and not having a free moment meant she was not going to let her mind wander.
