I don't know what every piece of seafood was, but there's one on that plate that (while delicious) I suspect I won't ever be having again. Check out that eel behind the nigiri, though.

Aomori and the ねぶたの家ワ。ラッセ (nebuta museum). Nebuta Matsuri takes place in August in Aomori and features giant paper floats that are built by master artisans and lit from within. It's right next to the water, where you can also take a tour of the Hakkoda Maru - one of the last passenger ships to shuttle people to Hokkaido before the completion of the tunnel in 1988.

I can't get a good photo of my view at night, but it's pretty cool.

I went to Matsushima a few weeks ago- a beautiful bay about 45 minutes by train from Sendai station. The bay is dotted with small islands, a few of which are accessible by foot bridge. There are many small shrines around the islands you can hike to, as well as a large temple (no photos allowed). We topped the very hot day off by eating oysters and way too much ice cream.

So excited to see some friends in Tokyo this week. i love Sendai, but i never get tired of this place.

Osaki Hachimangu Shrine- built by Date Masamune in 1607. It was difficult to get pictures as there was a large tent set up in front of the shrine today for some event. If you'd like to visit remember: put your offering in the box, bow twice deeply, ring the bell/gong (if applicable), clap twice, pray, bow again

Took the Loople tour today - pictures from Zuihoden Mausoleum where Date Masamune and the descendants of the Masamune clan are buried. Sadly, the original buildings were destroyed during WWII, but they were lovingly restored in the 1970s by the people of Sendai. Many of the artifacts and objects you can see in the museum are the real deal, though.
