There were some difficulties in the IDC box header. basically I just hope the dam this is still going to work. Just need to test ohm levels on a couple of potentiometers. Also, the power supply might be another project. 

During this time students were mixing the Gillesipise video.

during this time there was a studio recoring session going on.

The IDC box header cable connector was soldered onto the wrong side of the PCB. These were the only two components that are soldered on the underside of the PCB an I didn't notice this and had to break them to get them off. Surprisingly, no electronics stores in Austin carry 2x8 connections so I had to order them from Mouser distribution. Hopefully, they will be here in the next couple of days. Connected the switches and everything else is soldered into place other than the IDC base, and the two small PCB boards which converts a Pot connect to a switch connect and another to the sound output. I need to make sure the solders of the pots do not touch anything adjacent and cause a short like what happened with the last project. Also, applying power to the will hopefully just be run through the IDC cables, although I will have to do some research on this to make sure it is wired correctly... Look like an entire rack system is needed to power the device so I'll have to look into this

Began attaching components. Discovered that one of the capacitors, 2.2uF 50v, was actually a 63v. Wasn't certain if this would affect the device significantly or not, still going to have to find a polarized 50v 2.2uF capacitor to be on the safe side. About to begin soldering the other components.

I reserved this time to be used as a mixing session this week and worked on a track that I've been working on for a while now. Overdubbed Andy playing acoustic guitar and re-amped a DI synth track. 

The LFO kit should be here tomorrow, and I plan to pick it up at this time and start assembling.

During this time, I played the drum kit that was set up in the studio.

Used the time for research, forgot ID so couldn't work on any sessions.

LFO research- Essentially, an LFO is a carrier signal below 20Hz which modulates another audio signal, sending the higher signal in a variety of different ways and/or creating several different basic effects, resulting in the possibility of almost infinite sound combinations/capabilities. An LFO works by applying voltage or amperage to the carrier signal which modulates the higher frequency signal based upon the waveform of the sub-human hearing waveform. The most common waveform shapes are sine, square, saw, triangle, and random/noise. A common effect created by LFOs is a slow rate triangle, creating a seemingly infinite climb upward by applying voltage to delayed slices of the original signal up to ~50 ms, and acting as a pitch shifter modulating the carried signal up the frequency spectrum. The same triangle wave can be used to slowly pan a signal, make it louder (amps), and filter a signal (cutoff/resistance). Another common LFO effect is tremolo/amps. Usually a sine wave modulates the carried sound by applying amps and can be effected by the rate, creating the signature tremolo effect. Yet another common LFO effect is wobbles, usually a sine/triangle wave modulating a signal at a rate that is somewhat synced to the songs tempo. They can also be used to create a flanged effect. Basically LFOs are not very complex when broken down, into carrier waveforms, rate, and amps being applied to another sound. There truly are, hesitant to say.. infinite number of sounds, but certainly combinations of sounds, and the more LFOs effecting a signal, the more crazy effects, combinations and sounds will result. They are sort of like radio waves only instead carrying the signal from one place to another, they directly effect the sound that is heard. 

This would be ideal for eliminating 60Hz hum. Unfortunately, it is not cheap.

Listened to the mix of a track I was working on at home. It sounded pretty bad on the studio monitors even tho it sounded fine at home. Recording DI makes everything sound muffled. It would be almost necessary to re-amp DI recordings or just EQ them better. Boosting the high end seems to help. Also, experimented with some waves plugins. The filter freak EQ sounded good.

Received conformation that the LFO was shipped and should arrive in about a week.

During this session a group was setting up to record a pop/punk band. They decided to get samples of the kit first. While they were setting this up, the band jammed and it sounded pretty good. Also, the samples sounded pretty good being run through the pres and outboard compressor. It is usually a good idea to sample the kit in the recording space in case drum parts need to be replaced later on, if time permits.
