some rough sketches for a blanket design! i'm between bapawmet being the focus with everyone behind them OR a tarot concept. the former looks better compositionally while the latter gives each character more equal focus and it's kind of fun trying to draw connections between them and the cards. lemme know if you have any thoughts (especially if you're familiar with tarot)!
and if you're interested, below the cut is my reasoning for associating certain characters with certain cards (sorry if i sound very new to tarot it's because i am 😭):
the magician: willpower, resourcefulness, if reversed, trickery. coco feels obvious as a magic-user who's constantly causing and solving problems.
the high priestess: mystery, spirituality, and if reversed, repressed intuition and confusion. ginger is a repressed magic-user so she fits.
the empress: motherly and nurturing. on second thought luna might be better as the hierophant (if you associate it with education instead of conformity). then mitt and whisk could be empress and emperor instead? i guess mitt IS a bit nurturing in their own way (nurturing of EVIL).
the emperor: authority, control and structure. it's very mitt, could be whisk too.
the hierophant: traditions and conformity. whisk is interested in maintaining the norm of cats and dogs not getting along.
the lovers: coco and brownie is best ship no contest.
the chariot: ambition and determination. very brownie but other than that, i wasn't sure what to put here, i just wanted a brownie centric card and thought her finding chocolate behind the cafeteria counter could arguably be a vehicle (FOR DEATH).
strength: strong boy gets strong card. instead of wrestling a lion he's wrestling a cat demon!
the hermit: patches was also a loner but given this card represents not just solitude but self-reflection, ginger was a better pick. instead of a lantern she's opening a portal from infurno!
wheel of fortune: coco's magic circle in pa1 made sense visually, and you could say it yielded some unexpected events ahhaha.
justice: patches being possessed by angel was a very solid act of justice. instead of holding a double edged sword he holds a knife.
the hanged man: lack of direction and uncertainty, so i think felix fits. he's being hung by his feet by mitt and whisk.
death: DEATH!!!
temperance: peace, patience, tranquility, serenity. doug knows how to chillax.
the devil: the card literally has baphomet on it. they have two chained humans, one will be patches but i'm not sure about the other. maybe a random dead dog, maybe no one, maybe olive but they're holding a chain on patches too??
the tower: hachiko high school overcome by magic, a parallel to the original card art of a tower struck by lightning.
the star: hope, inspiration, renewal. the original art has a woman with one leg in a pond. as a parallel, holly is stepping onto the ice with tigger post-pa3 (after their conversation about her trying out ice skating), which you could argue is a sort of renewal for her??
the moon: i thought luna would make sense based on name alone but the card having a domesticated dog and a feral wolf felt like the perfect opportunity to have patches and catches together. there are two animals inside you, and they're both terrible fucking people.
the sun: happiness, optimism, joy. rover makes total sense, and instead of riding a horse he's just riding the high of SPORTS!!!!
judgement: self-evaluation, awakening, reckoning. bapawmet eating everyone at the assembly was a reckoning and their summoning was cause for self-reflection depending on your choices i guess.
the world: achievement, sense of belonging, wholeness. tigger wants to be an example of cat-excellence for her fellow felines. i thought sports-balls in each corner would be a good parallel to the original card art, and the wreath is a basketball hoop instead lol.
the fool: beginnings, innocence, adventure. olive felt like the obvious choice. was thinking them walking downstairs into the basement of the school was a good example of naivete but alternatively, olive stepping out of the classroom closet would be a cool full-circle way to end off this card series!
thanks so much for reading all of this! conceptually i love this design but visually it still needs work. it's hard to fit 22 cards neatly onto a rectangle w/o a ton of dead space though, might have to make better use of the text on the bottom corners. 😅
