thinking about james, marlene and regulus as the proper serious quidditch athletes of hogwarts because they would absolutely treat it like an actual sport and not just a fun school club
like none of them really drink or smoke or mess around with stuff like that because they know it would wreck their stamina, focus and reaction time. they’re not boring about it, but they are serious. if someone offers them something before a match or training, it is an immediate no.
james acts like he’s casual about quidditch because he’s james, but he is not casual at all. he cares so much it’s embarrassing. he does loads of cardio, especially running, and definitely stays up way too late doing laps around the grounds because he got restless and decided midnight was the perfect time to improve his endurance. then he sleeps in too late the next morning and acts personally betrayed when anyone wakes him up.
marlene trains like she’s preparing to fistfight god. she does martial arts, strength work, and probably spars with anyone stupid enough to agree. she also carb-loads like an absolute machine because she knows she needs the energy, especially as a beater. everyone else is having a normal dinner and marlene is on her third plate of pasta like “what? i have training.”
regulus is the most disciplined about it in a terrifyingly quiet way. he does cardio, gym work, core training, stretches constantly, and has insane flexibility because seeker work is all sharp turns, sudden drops, balance, speed and control. he’s the type to be sitting in the common room reading while casually folded in half like that’s a normal human position.
and they all try hard with grades because they know if their marks drop too badly, they could lose their place on the team. james complains about homework but does it. marlene acts like she doesn’t care but absolutely cares. regulus is already a high achiever and treats schoolwork like another thing he refuses to lose at.
so the three of them are very different kinds of athletes.
james is restless golden retriever cardio boy who runs at midnight and forgets sleep is necessary.
marlene is martial arts menace who eats like she’s fuelling a war horse.
regulus is silent gym-and-flexibility demon who looks delicate until he does something physically impossible on a broom.
