Hi yall l. Sorry that I haven't updated in a hot minute. I had an eye injury and couldn't stand to look at screens đ˘ I'm pretty healed now, so I'll be back on it soon
âMyaaah!â Another good shot and Grim catches all three ghosts in his flame, causing them to panic.
âHwaaahhh! We gotta get out of here! Before we get disappeared for good!â And with that final cry, the ghosts vanish from sight, leaving you three to your own devices.
Surprised, Grim puts his little paws up in shock, looking around. âH-huh? Did we⌠win?â
Letting out a relieved sigh, you wipe your brow, giving a weary smile to the cat beast and Mash, nodding your head gently.
âGood work, everyone. Thanks for the help. Now, we shouldnât have to worry about them for a good bit,â you place a hand on your hip as you look around, satisfied.
Teary eyed, Grim looks up, âAw, geez, I was scared outta my-â He quickly shakes himself out of it, puffing up his chest. âI mean, they didnât faze me one bit! Just a walk in the park for a mage of my caliber! Whaddaya got to say now, ghosties? Thatâs right!â He smirks, turning his little nose up triumphantly.
âFou, fou fou!â The magical beast speaks up from within your hold, seemingly unimpressed.
Just then, another surprise guest appears. Once again, the headmage makes himself known. âGood evening. In another gesture of my immense kindness, I have brought you dinner.â Crowley then blinks owlishly as his eyes land on Grim. âWait. Thatâs the creature we had ejected for causing trouble at orientation! What is it doing here?â
Grim finds it in him to speak up and defend his presence, âTakinâ care of yer ghost problem, thatâs what. Youâre welcome, by the way!â
Crowley turns to look at you with a questioning gaze, âWhat is the meaning of this, Y/N?â
With a sigh, you and Mash take some time to explain what all had transpired in the Ramshackle Dorm since you got in to the headmage, sparing no details.
âBut you know, on that topic, I do seem to recall that this dorm had a mischievous ghost problem,â he holds a hand up to his chin in thought, âah, yes⌠Thatâs why it was abandoned, in fact. The ghosts scared away all the students. And youâre saying that you all joined forces to drive them away?â
ââJoined forcesâ ainât exactly how Iâd describe it. More like I drove âem away, and the pink haired one helped I guess, while the other human watched. And I only did it âcause I wanted some tuna,â Grim crosses his little arms before throwing them up in frustration. âHey⌠wait a minute! I never got those cans of tuna ya promised!â
âCould you not have told us before that weâd be dealing with ghosts, or did that just conveniently slip your mind?â You deadpan, running a hand through your hair in exasperation.
Seemingly ignoring you, Crowley continues, âWould you all be so kind as to demonstrate your ghost-eradication methods for me?â
The cat beast scowls, putting his little hands on his hips, âOne, no, âcause I already wiped âem all out. And two, no, âcause whereâs my tuna?!â
Crowley crosses his arms, sighing as if the answer is obvious, âI will play the part of the ghosts. As for the tuna, youâll receive it when you defeat me,â he smiles, proud of himself. âOh, what generosity, Crowley⌠Now, to chug this transmutation potion!â
The headmage unveils a vial from his sleeve, uncorking it and downing it in one go, and, with a bright flash, turns into a ghost, complete with a little cape, and his signature mask and hat.
Grim looks all too displeased at this, âAh, you gotta be kiddinâ me. I gotta work together with the humans again?â
You take your chance to chime in, âHey, think about it this way, Grim, this could be your big chance to show him what you're made of and finally enroll in the school!â
Clearly taking your words to heart, the gray car beast seems more enthused, âAll right, but this is the last time. And I better be up to my jowls in tuna afterwards!â
âThatâs the spirit! Alright, Mash. Letâs do this one more time! Follow my lead!â
âUnderstood, Master!â
Mash transforms back into her servant gear, shield manifesting resolutely in her hands as you take your place beside her, preparing yourself. Grim readies his stance, warming up.
Ghost-form Crowley pops up behind Grim, âNow, then! Let us see you expel ME as a ghost.â He disappears, only to reappear on Grimâs other side, âGo on! Donât be shy about striking me. Iâm much too kind to be riled over that.â
Shaking off his surprise, Grim locks in, smirking and getting riled up. âOkay, but you asked for it! There better be some tuna waitinâ for me after this!â
Ghost-Crowley reappears, taunting you all. âNow, let us commence!â
Grim closes his eyes, preparing to breathe fire at your command, âOkay, human! You tell me if he so much as blinks, got it?â
Keeping your eyes peeled and staying alert, you wait for any sign of the recently tuned ghostly headmage. Sensing a disturbance on your left, you direct Grimâs flame. âHeâs coming up on your left side, Grim!â
âTo the left? Got it! Taste my flames!â With closed eyes, the cat beast spits out a cone of blue flames, scorching the ghost of Crowley as he appears.
Mash is careful to protect the flames from spreading across the dormitory, keeping them contained and controlled.
Each time the headmage pops up, youâre quick to order Grimâs fire, hitting the mark every time.
âMy, does that ever smart!â Crowley yelps out in pain as heâs doused in flame, flickering away. âYouâve impressed me! I may have to up the difficulty a smidge.â With that, the ghostly headmage begins zooming around the dorm, much quicker than he was before.
This shocks Grim, making him stumble back slightly, âMyah?! Whyâd he get so fast all of a sudden?!â
The headmage laughs, taunting you all, âCan you keep up with me NOW?â
Grim rights himself, huffing and smirking, âHmph, I can and I will! This is childâs play for the great Grim!â
Clenching your hand at your side self-assuredly, you nod. âAlrighty, Grim! Time for us to turn up the heat! Letâs show him what weâre made of!â
You continue, undaunted, issuing Grim and Mash directions just in time for them to unleash an attack at Crowley, all of you working reflexively and like a well-oiled machine.
Then, Crowley and two other ghosts surround you all, creeping up on you. âI wonder just how many you can elude at once?â
âGrim, weâre surrounded, do your thing!â
âMYAH-YAH-YAAH!â With three big bursts of flame, Grim takes them all down seamlessly.
âNice job! You got them, way to go, Grim!â You smile, praising the little cat beast, who smirks under the attention.
Panting and exerted, Grim seems pleased with himself, âHah⌠hah⌠I got every last one⌠Hey, human! Youâre killinâ me here! You donât gotta be so rough, ya know.â
You chuckle softly as he complains, giving him a gentle pat on the head. âSorry, sorry. I just thought you were tough stuff, you know?â
Mash turns back into her regular clothing just as the headmage returns to normal. Grim looks up at Crowley expectantly, panting. âWell?â
The headmage looks at you, in particular, with eyes wide, full of intrigue and surprise. âIncredible⌠Iâve never seen anyone bend a monster to their will quite the way you have.â He brings a hand up to his chin in contemplation, âI must confess, my educatorâs intuition did sense something about you after that brouhaha at orientation, Y/N. I could tell you had a certain animal trainer-y, beast master-ish quality to you. Oh, yes.â
âWell, where Iâm from, Iâm certainly no stranger to leading a team of individuals with incredible abilities, regardless of whether these particular individuals get along or not, so I suppose you could say I have some experience in a similar area.â You respond, thinking back to the multiple different types of Servants youâve had to work with in the past, both willing and less than willing.
âThat said IâŚâ Crowley trails off into indiscernible mumbling, causing you all to stare at him blankly.
You decide to speak up, âWould it be possible for Grim to stay with me? He really would like to go to this school. I could look after him, you know, make sure he doesnât get into too much trouble.â
âWHAT? A monster, stay HERE?â Crowley gasps, as if the idea is unthinkable.
âWhoa, did you justâŚ?â Grim blinks up at you, a softer expression on his face, as if heâs confused as to why you would ever stick up for him.
âIs it really that unthinkable? Besides, what if there are more ghosts? Iâll certainly need help getting rid of them, and Grimâs a bonafide pro at ghostbusting! With only minimal property damageâŚâ You mumble the last part under your breath.
âHmmmâŚâ Crowley hums as he considers it, âI suppose I cannot deny your plea. Very well.â
âMyah?! Really?â The cat beastâs face lights up, overjoyed.
âLet me be clear!â The headmage interrupts sternly. âUnder no circumstances would I admit anyone to Night Raven College who has not been selected by the Dark Mirror-especially not a monster!â
âI feel like thatâs kind of racistâŚâ you murmur softly.
âNor do I intend to allow you, Y/N, to freeload until youâre able to return home.â
âI mean, fair, but I can use magic, I just havenât really tried it out here yet, unfamiliar leylines and all thatâŚâ You grumble, crossing your arms.
âFou..â Fou nods in agreement.
âHrmph. Never shoulda gotten my hopes upâŚâ Grim sighs dejectedly.
âNow, allow me to explain. It was the Dark Mirror that transported you here. Therefore this school does bear some responsibility for your well-being. So I will allow you to remain in this dorm, free of charge. However, you will need to pay for your own food, clothing, and incidentals.â You raise your brow at this, as you obviously already told him you came here with nothing.
âAs to how you will do so, penniless as you are⌠Ah. Ah ha. Yes, a fine plan.â He smiles, all too pleased with himself.
âWhat exactly are you planning to have me do?â You narrow your gaze at him in suspicion, sensing there may be a catch involved.
âYou neednât seem so alarmed. Iâm simply going to ask you to do a few odd jobs around campus. From what youâve done here, (Y/N), I can tell you know your way around a broom,â he tries to reassure you.
âIâve barely even gotten started cleaning this place⌠So what, Iâm gonna be a glorified janitor or something?â You mumble under your breath.
âSo what do you say to you all working together as a janitorial team? If you agree to that, Iâll make a special exception and allow you to remain on campus. Iâll also allow you use of the library, so that you may study, and research ways to return home. How boundlessly charitable I am,â He crosses his arms and smiles, then quickly cuts himself off, âAh, but only when your work is over, of course!â
âI thought you were supposed to help us search for a way home?â You grumble under your breath, narrowing your eyes at him once more.
âWhaaat? What kinda deal is that? I wanna put on one of those sweet uniforms and be a student, not sweep up peopleâs junk!â Grim puts his paws on his hips, looking entirely unimpressed.
âIf youâre not satisfied with my offer, I can arrange to have you thrown out again,â the headmage responds without missing a beat.
âMyah?! âŚAll right, fine! Letâs do it,â the cat beast grumbles, not at all looking enthused by the prospect.
You sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose and shaking your head gently, âWhat choice do I have, really?â
âWonderful. Then I beseech you both⌠To work hard as the newest members of Night Raven Collegeâs janitorial staff!â Crowley looks entirely too pleased with himself.
Soon enough, the pesky headmage takes his leave, leaving you, Grim, and Mash to stare at each other awkwardly. You sigh again and shrug, turning to look at Mash. âNow that weâre free from other distractions, finally, would you like to feel out the leylines here? Seeing as this world practically runs on magic, thereâs bound to be something good.â
Mash nods in response, âOf course, Senpai! This should only take a moment or two.â With that, she closes her eyes, using her Servant senses to locate a stable leyline point. She reopens her eyes and looks almost a little shocked. âThe closest area we should be able to get a connection is actually in this building, somewhere down the hallway, I believe.â
Your brows raise and your eyes widen slightly in surprise as she mentions this. âWell, thatâs good. So this place will pretty much be our base of operations then. Letâs go find that connection point!â
Grim looks up at you both with a puzzled expression, âWhat are both yappinâ about?â
âJust come with us and youâll see, Grim. Iâm about to show you just what I can accomplish with my magic.â You eagerly follow Mash down the hall, excited to finally be able to get some help and see some familiar faces.
Mash stops in front of a door, gesturing to it with her head. âIt should be right inside here, in this room.â The lavender haired girl tries the door, but it doesnât budge. âIt seems to be locked, thoughâŚâ
All of a sudden, the three ghosts from before show up, staring at you all curiously.
âI donât know how much luck youâre gonna have with that doorâŚâ the larger ghost says.
âWe tried pushinâ it and pullinâ it. We even threw a chair at it. But that door just wonât budge. Itâs a toughie,â the slender ghost shook his head.
âWe canât pass through it, either. It has some kind of enchantment on it,â the small ghost chimes in.
Grim grumbles, crossing his little arms, âItâs got a keyhole right there! How come none of us have the key?â
That gives you an idea. âYou know who just might have the key we need? The headmage!â
-timeskip to around 20 minutes later-
Youâve found the headmage and asked him to come check something out in your dorm. You lead Crowley to the locked room, telling him that you need the key as you want to see whatâs inside.
âI was wondering why you would pull me away from my very busy schedule. So youâre looking for the key to this door, hm? Well, yes, I have it. As you know, this dorm sat abandoned for quite some time before you all started living here. Iâd completely forgotten about this door. Ahh, what memories!â He seems to become quite nostalgic.
âMyaah, memories, schmemories! Just open it already!â The cat beast huffs, putting his paws on his hips.
âGoodness, how impatient you are. All right, Iâll open it now.â Crowley shakes his head at Grimâs impudence, taking out a key ring and searching for a specific key. He nods his head to himself when he finds it, slipping the key off of the ring, and sticking it into the keyhole, turning it and unlocking the door. He then hands the key to you as the door opens with a loud creak.
You all step inside to check it out, only to choke on the dust. It seems the room was previously being used for storage. Unable to handle very long within the room, you all decide to talk out in the hallway, and on the way out, your foot hits something. You bend down to pick it up, examining it as you step back outside the room.
It looks similar to a hammer, but you can tell thereâs a magical element about it. âHey, Crowley, what is this?â
âI recognise that hammer! Why, itâs a magitool!â He seems delighted.
The rest of you, however, are confused. âA what?â
âItâs a magic item used to fabricate furniture. If you have the right materials, all it takes is one swing of that hammer, and poof! Youâve got furniture! And since the hammer itself is enchanted⌠You donât need magic to use it!â
âSo we can make all the fancy furniture we want?!â âOnly if you have the correct materials, mind you.â Grim starts, only for the headmage to cut him off, correcting him.
The smaller ghost speaks up after a moment, âSay, I just had a thought. There are plenty of empty rooms in this place, right? Why donât we use the magitool to make ourselves a guest room? You two can do it up any way you like.â
You turn to the headmage to address him, âIs it okay for us to remodel one of the empty rooms?â
Crowley smiles, looking entirely too pleased, âI think itâs a grand idea. Personally, Iâd be delighted to see you work your magic and smarten up this dorm. By all means, go right ahead!â
So with that, you say your goodbyes to Crowley, and get to work on cleaning and straightening the room up. Within a good 45 minutes, youâre able to clean out most of the dust, throw away rubbage, and fashion some basic furniture around the room, like a table, a chair, and a small sofa.
Mash comes up to you, just as you stand to observe the room with an accomplished grin. âMaster, shall I get things set up for the leyline here?â
You turn to look at her and nod, âYeah, letâs do that. Then, weâll hopefully be able to contact Chaldea and summon some more help.â
Your kouhai nods, summoning her shield, and getting to work on connecting to the leyline. Once she deems thereâs a stable enough connection, she calls you over. âGood news and bad news, the bad news is that I havenât been able to reach Chaldea yet, the good news is that I believe weâll be able to connect to the Throne and summon Servants.â
âHmm, well, something is better than nothing. Iâm glad weâre at least able to summon. Okay, Iâm going to try to reach out to the Throne.â You decide as you step closer to her shield, extending your hand with your command seals out to it.
You take a deep breath and close your eyes, feeling out for the magic stored within the leyline, connecting your own to it, as you begin to chant:
âLet silver and steel be the essence.
Let stone and the archduke of contracts be the foundation
Let rise a wall against the wind that shall fall
Let the four cardinal gates close.
Let the three-forked road from the crown reaching unto the Kingdom rotate.
I hereby declare.
Your body shall serve under me.
My fate shall be your sword.
Submit to the beckoning of the Holy Grail
If you will submit to this will and this reasonâŚThen answer!
An oath shall be sworn here!
I shall attain all virtues of all of Heaven.
I shall have dominion over all evils of all of Hell!
From the Seventh Heaven, attended to by three greet words of power,
Come forth from the ring of restraints,
Protector of the Holy Balance!â
A bright light fills the room, magical energy crackling like electricity around you, winds of power surging through the space, blowing your hair back as your mana forms their body in the circle. Youâre only able to see the silhouette of their form as the light dies down and the wind settles, leaving a certain magically produced fog behind. From within the fog, a distinct voice calls out to you:
I know I have to finish the next part of FO:TWST, but DC brainrot has taken a hold of me and I was wondering, what about DC and Mekakushi Dan reader? My love for vocaloid arises once more
âOFF WITH YOUR HEAD!â A mechanical locking sound follows the shout, and you turn to see Grimâs neck encased in a heart-shaped lock. Behind the small beast stand Riddle, Azul, and Mash; though Azul looks thoroughly spent.
âMYAH?! What are you doing?!â
âThe Queen of Heartsâ Rule 23: âOne must never bring a cat to a formal affair.â Your very presence here is a violation of order. You will vacate these premises immediately.â Riddle stands proud and proper, with an air of authority.Â
Recovering from his shock, Grim protests once more. âBut I ainât a cat either! Donât you tryân collar me! Iâll burn it right off! HuhâŚ? Wh-what gives? My fire ainât workinâ!â The gray beasts face paints with perplexion as he blinks owlishly.Â
Riddle proceeds to put his hands on his hips and a smirk crosses his face. âUntil I deign to remove that collar, you wonât be using any magic. Youâre naught but a pet cat now.â
Grim frowns and crosses his arms, before throwing them out to his sides. âM-meoWHAT?! I ainât nobodyâs pet-NOTHING!â Grim growls out.
Riddle frowns again, âOh, youâve nothing to worry about there. I certainly have no interest in having you as a pet.â His arms return to his sides as he speaks again. âThe collar will disappear once youâre removed from campus.â
From what youâve seen of him so far, the redhead seems plenty responsible and strict, some rather admirable qualities. He quickly got Grim under control with the spell he cast. You wonder what kind of effect, if any, his collar would have on your magic; though, youâre not hoping to find out any time soon.
âHa-Ha! Good show as always, Riddle. Your signature spell locks down any magic. Itâs quite handy. Iâve just GOT to have it- ah, I mean, Iâve just got to have respect for it.â Azul slips a bit, but quickly corrects himself. He seems recovered enough from his impromptu exercise.
You turn to whisper to Mash, âHe mentioned a âsignature spellâ. Could that be akin to a Noble Phantasm essentially?âÂ
Mash hums, bringing a hand to her chin in thought. âIâm not sure. Weâll have to investigate some more to find out, Senpai.â She nods to you.
Your attention is promptly stolen by the headmage who is, once again, scolding you. âY/N! Was I not clear that you are expected to take responsibility for your familiar? Now discipline your-â
âFor the last time: he is NOT my familiar!â You cut him off with a shout, frustrated with his inability to grasp this concept.
âWhatâs that?! It isnât yours?â He looks dumbfounded, shocked even.
âHow many times do I have to tell you? NO! He isnât mine; Iâve never even seen such a creature before today!â You shake your head, facepalming at his dense nature. âAnd this is supposed to be the headmage?â You mumble to yourself.
âOh? âŚIs that so?â Crowley clears his throat. âThen I shall have it expelled from campus. I shall even spare it from being served as dinner,â he says with a joyous expression. âMy, but I AM kind. âŚSomeone take this away, please.âÂ
You frown slightly at Grimâs objectification by the headmage. Heâs a sentient creature, so you think he should be treated with at least some modicum of respect.
âNooooo! Let me goooo!â Grim cries out as heâs dragged away. âYou fools better remember my name! Cause Iâm gonna go down in the annals of magic history! Just you wait!â The cat-beast was promptly booted from the institution.
You canât help but feel bad. The poor thing was just excited to learn how to control his magic, and inadvertently caused trouble because of his enthusiasm. Mash puts a gentle hand on your shoulder and phases back from her servantâs uniform.Â
âWell, that was quite the unexpected fracas. I hereby declare that orientation has concluded. Housewardens, please escort your students back to the dorms.â
Under his instruction, the housewardens start rounding up their students and escorting them off.
Â
â...Hm? Come to think of it, I donât see Housewarden Draconia of House Diasomnia anywhere,â Crowley muses aloud.
The guy with long hair and lion ears turns his head and speaks in passing, âAnd that surprises you? Dudeâs a total recluse.â
The nice boy with red eyes whose uniform caught fire speaks up, âWait a sec⌠Did anyone even invite him?
âIf youâre that worried about him missing out, maybe you should have told him yourself.â The handsome guy shoots back, a hand on his hip.
The red eyed boy hums, closing his eyes and crossing his arms. âMaybe, but I donât know him too well eitherâŚâ
Murmuring breaks out among the students present. âDraconia⌠Like, Malleus Draconia? THAT Draconia?â âSo itâs true? He really does go to school here?â âYikes.â
âWhatâs so bad about this Draconia guy?â You tilt your head as you mumble to Mash, who shrugs in return.
A smaller student pipes up with a voice not quite befitting of his stature. âAh. Just as Iâd expected. I figured Iâd come down and see for myself whether Malleus had made an appearance.â He crosses his arms, looking rather disappointed. âBut once again, he was evidently not informed that his presence was required at an official ceremony.â
Azul apologizes, looking dejected; youâre not sure he actually is though. âYou have my sincerest apologies. I assure you, this oversight was in no way intended as a snub.âÂ
âI mean, you must admit, heâs not exactly the easiest person to strike up a conversation with,â Riddle reasons.
With a hand on his hip, the smaller student responds, âNo matter. All who were assigned to House Diasomnia, follow me.â Turning around, he murmurs, âI just hope he doesnât sulk about this.â
And, with that, all of the students take their leave to their respective dorms, which just leaves you, Mash, and Crowley in the Mirror Chamber. The headmage raises a hand to his chin in thought. âWell, Y/N, Mash, this is a most unfortunate turn of events.â His hand lowers back to his side as he looks at you both with a serious expression. âIâm afraid that neither of you will be attending Night Raven College after all. Surely you realize that I cannot very well admit students that are unfit for my academy. But worry not. The Dark Mirror will see you safely home. Now, step into a gate, and visualize the place from whence you came.â
Maybe this all was just a dream? It certainly felt very real though. The stress from having to save all of humanity must be getting to you. Maybe Archer can make you some pancakes or something when you get up. Turning, both you and Mash step back into the gates. The doors close and you're encased in darkness once more.
âO Dark Mirror! Return these souls to where they belong!â You hear Crowleyâs voice outside.Â
You close your eyes and think about Chaldea, about your room, about Da Vinci. Everything is quiet as you concentrate. Minutes pass, and nothing happens. You blink your eyes open again.Â
The headmage clears his throat. âL-let us, er⌠try this again. O Dark Mirror! Return these souls-â
He gets cut off by the Dark Mirrorâs deep voice. âThere is no such place.â
This makes your eyes widen in shock. What does it mean âthere is no such place'? Are you still dreaming? Or, if this is a singularity, did humanity actually get erased? Did you fail in your mission?Â
âWhat?â Crowley sounds just as stupefied as you feel.
âThere is no place in this world where these souls belong. None.âÂ
âHow can that be? My, but today is a veritable cavalcade of impossible phenomena!â You crack open the door and see the headmage looking at his open hands, frustrated and confused. The Dark Mirror simply stares quietly. Crowley crosses his arms. âThis has never happened throughout my long tenure. I must confess that I am at something of a loss.â He then motions for you and Mash to step out of the gates. Now, heâs frowning, exasperated. âTell me: From what land do you hail?âÂ
You look at Mash, then back at Crowley. âUh, yeah, weâre from Chaldea. Our headquarters are in Antarctica.â You tell him plainly, shrugging softly.Â
Crowley brings his gloved hand to his face in thought, humming. âChaldea? Antarctica? Iâm afraid Iâm not familiar with such a place. I am intimately acquainted with the origins of every student who has ever come here, and yet⌠This mysterious homeland of yours eludes me. Let us go to the library and look it up, shall we?â Then, he turns on his heel and begins walking in the direction of the library you saw earlier.
âSo, wait, let me get this straight. Youâre saying youâve never heard of Antarctica? The continent? Chaldea, I would understand never hearing of, but Antarctica?â You ask, bewildered.Â
He simply shakes his head no. âWeâll look at a map when we reach the library.â
It doesnât take too long for you all to return to the library. The lights are on this time, however, making it a lot easier to see. Crowley pulls out an atlas and several maps, laying them all out on a table. Yet, when you look at the maps, none of them are familiar to you. Thereâs no Asia, no Europe, and least of all, no Antarctica. Your mouth gapes in shock, youâve never heard of any of the places on these maps. Sunset Savanna? The Shaftlands? None of these places exist in the world you know, at no point in history.Â
âMash, I donât think weâre in Kansas anymore.â Looking over at her, her brow is furrowed in confusion as she inspects each map carefully, coming to the same conclusion.
âJust as Iâd expected. Nothing. Not only is your homeland not listed on any map from any point in history.â The headmage crosses his arms. âNow, are you QUITE sure that you come from such a place? That wasnât some sort of lie, or jape? Because if so, the only explanation is that youâve come from another planet. Or perhaps you were summoned here from another dimension?â He puts his hands on his hips.Â
You merely blink at him. âJust where in the world did we land ourselves and how? Is this a Psuedo-Singularity or? This feels like weâve been sucked into a fairytale or something; donât tell me a Caster like Anderson, Shakespeare, or Nursery Rhyme have anything to do with thisâŚâ You murmur, a deadpan expression taking over your features.Â
Mash speaks up from beside you. âNeither of us can recall rayshifting, so I am unsure as to whether this is truly a Singularity or not. Regardless, we should take the necessary precautions and treat it as such until we find out more about our situation.â
You nod to her just as the headmage speaks up again. âShow me everything that you brought here with you. Do you have some form of identification, a driverâs license perhaps? Or even a..shoe? You do seem a tad bitâŚempty-handed.â
Sharing a look with Mash, you both run your hands over yourselves, patting yourselves down, checking for anything that you may have brought with you only to find nothing but Mashâs glasses and the Command Seal you possess, along with the magic thrumming through your being. Well, that, and Fou, who pops back out of the hood of the robes youâre wearing with a soft yip. âUhhh⌠yeah, I got nothing. Not a saint quartz, leyline stone, holy grail, or mystic code to be found; not even my cell phone.â
He stares at you blankly for a moment. âSaint quartz? Huh?â He shakes himself out of his stupor, then brings a hand up to his chin in contemplation. âWell, this is quite the predicament. I cannot have someone with an unknown and unsuitable source of magic bumbling about my magic academy. And yet, as an educator, I am loath to expel such young persons without a cent to their name, or any ability to contact their guardiansâŚâ
âI mean, Iâm sure we could take care of ourselves,â you interject quietly, waving him off casually, thinking of your experience of being dropped in foreign situations, with and without the ability to contact Chaldea.Â
âTruly, my grace is boundless,â he smiles, relaxing his arms back to his sides. âHmmmmmâŚAh! There is a vacant building on this campus. It was, in fact, used as a dorm a long time ago. With a proper cleaning, it should be habitable enough. Out of the profound kindness of my heart, I will allow you to live there for the time being. In the meantime, we will investigate other ways to send you home.â He puts his hands on his hips, looking entirely too pleased with himself. âDear me, but I am a gracious man indeed! A model educator, one might say.â
Looking at Mash, you both shrug, nurturing the idea in your heads. âI mean, it doesnât sound too bad, and it could certainly always be worse, like, we could constantly be on the runâŚâ You bring up.
âYes, he seems willing to help us from the start, weâll also have to find some way to pitch in and help where we can,â Mash nods.Â
âWell then, I shall take you to your dorm straight away. It is an older building, but it has plenty ofâŚcharacter, one might say,â he smiles, crossing his arms.Â
You give Mash a bit of a wary look, âSomething bothers me about the way he said that, I donât like it.â
Regardless, you both follow the masked headmage out of the library and down a very long, winding path through the campus, passing by several buildings that you ask the names of, Samâs Store, the Hall of Mirrors, the Alchemy Workshop, and the Botanical Garden, until you finally come upon a large metal gate, behind which is an old, decrepit looking building. The trees are spindly and dead, looming ominously overhead, and spiderwebs cover most things in sight. There are actual tombstones in the yard and the windows to the building are boarded up.Â
You take it all in, nodding rigidly as you look upon it in distaste, a rueful smile on your face. You click your tongue and suck in a harsh breath, groaning softly. âYeah, this place has, uhâŚcharacter alright. With the way it looks from here, it may need a little more than just a âproperâ cleaning.âÂ
âI think âabandonedâ is a better suited word for this building, rather than âvacantâ, wouldnât you agree, Senpai?â Mash murmurs softly to you, in which you respond with an agreeable hum and nod of your head.Â
The headmaster coos softly, âIsnât it delightful? Right, scoot inside now. There you go.â With that, he unlocks the door and ushers you both into the building.Â
Stepping inside, you immediately are thrown into a sneezing and coughing fit from the amount of dust that has collected over years over disuse. Mash hands you a handkerchief and rubs your back soothingly. There are, once again, spiderwebs everywhere, this time coupled with broken, overturned furniture, and dusty, peeling wallpapers and paintings.Â
Seemingly ignoring your struggle, Crowley prattles on. âThis should keep the elements at bay for the time being. Now, I should return to my research. Do try to find some way to busy yourself. But donât let me catch you wandering the campus! Ta!â He turns and makes his way out, shutting the door behind him, leaving you both alone in the ramshackle dorm.
Wiping your nose and face with the handkerchief, you take a good look around, sniffling. âItâs like a desolate snowscape. Only with dust⌠I donât even see a clean place to sit. Mash, it looks like weâve got our work cut out for us,â you sigh, placing your hands on your hips.Â
The demi-servant pads over to the light switches, trying them out, and, to both of your surprise, the light fixtures turn on and seem to be in working order. âSenpai, we should try to find some cleaning supplies, if we can, to at least make this area easier to live in. I noticed that the dust was getting to you earlier.âÂ
âGood idea, while weâre searching for supplies, we can also check out the rest of the building on the way. Itâs probably not going to be in much better condition, but at least weâll get an idea of what we're working with.â You cross the room to begin checking closets when something wet hits your face, causing you to look up and see a hole in the roof. It then starts pouring outside, which creates a steady trickle from the roof. âWeâre gonna need buckets while weâre at it.â
âGWAH! Itâs pouring out there!â A sudden, whiny, nasally voice cries out, startling you as the creature comes scampering in, shaking off water everywhere, including onto you.Â
âAH! WHAT THE-?!â Cringing away from the cold water, you whirl around to get a good look at the creature, groaning as you recognize it as the troublemaking cat-beast from earlier. Fou hisses at him from atop of your shoulders, swatting an arm.Â
âBwahaha! That look on your face is priceless! Like a bat that got blasted by a water gun,â Grim grins mischievously, his tail swishing behind him. âAs if I wouldnât just sneak back onto campus the second I escaped pryinâ eyes. You all got no idea what Iâm capable of!â He smirks, putting his little paws on his hips, âI ainât givinâ up on goinâ here just âcause I got kicked out one measly âol time. And if you think otherwise, you donât know Grim!â
âGuards! GUARDS!!! MASH! The cat is back again!â You holler, clutching Fou to your chest securely, mostly so that he doesnât pick a fight with the cat, as Mash comes running in, already in her Servant gear.Â
Grim yelps and cowers into himself slightly, âHey! No! Bad human! BAD HUMAN!â He lowers his voice to a conspiratorial stage whisper, âAinât you gonna ask what Iâm doinâ here? Thatâs what you people do, right? Talk about feelings and stuff?â The cat beast crosses his arms, looking oddly offended, âJust what kinda human are ya, anyway? It wouldnât kill ya to listen to me. Right?!â He pouts, whining.Â
You sigh, rolling your eyes and shaking your head, âAlright, Iâll bite. Why are you so determined to go to this school, anyway?âÂ
Mash looks between the two of you, relaxing slightly and setting her shield down as she also curiously listens about Grimâs motivations and motives.
Grim lights up as you two begin to listen to him, âIsnât it obvious? I was born to do this! Iâm a magical prodigy whoâs got the makinâs to become one of the greatest mages who ever lived! So Iâve been waitinâ and waitinâ for that black carriage to come for me. And yetâŚâ His whole demeanor changes and his voice gets softer as he trails off, and it actually makes your heart ache. But then he switches back to his arrogant attitude from before, lifting his chin and huffing, âHrmph! That Dark Mirrorâs got no eye for talent! Thatâs why I took the initiative and came here myself. You humans donât understand what a mistake youâre makinâ! Not lettinâ me in is a great loss to the world!â
Some of the rain from one of the leaks in the ceiling begins to drip on him and he fusses, jumping shocked. âMrrao! Câmon, scoot over! Iâm getting dripped on here!â He scurries from that spot, taking refuge in another spot, that then also begins to drip on him. âBwah! Another hole in the roof! These flaminâ ears are like my trademark, yâknow? I canât let âem get doused!âÂ
âWell, I was on my way to look for some buckets when you came flying in like a bat out of hell, dripping water everywhere, mind you,â you grumble as you turn away from him, motioning to Mash to continue your search for supplies.Â
âI dunno why ya donât just magic those holes away. You could have it fixed in half a jiff,â he complains with his paws on his hips. âAhhh, right. You canât use magic at all. Pfft. Man, youâre useless.â
âItâs more complicated than that. Itâs not that I canât use magic, itâs more like my magic doesnât fit in here. Iâd explain it in more detail, but, no offense, I doubt youâd understand it. The headmage didnât even really seem to understand it, himself,â you shrug as you open up a closet, batting the dust away from your face, beginning to sort through it. Finding nothing but old, moth-eaten clothing, you decide to head into the hallway to search there.
The hallway is dark and cold as you move through it, sending a chill down your spine. âAlright, this place is kind of starting to freak me outâŚâ Just as you say that to yourself, your hair stands on end and you catch three shadows moving in the corner of your eye. Turning quickly, you see three ghosts coming towards you. âMASSSHHHH!!!!â You yell as you begin to bolt in the opposite direction of the ghosts, your battle instincts taking over.Â
âYee hee hee⌠Bwa ha ha ha ha ha. We havenât had visitors in ages!â
âOh, Iâm just itchinâ for new friends! Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!â The ghosts call out from behind you as you sprint down the darkened hallways.Â
âMASH! GHOSTS! IN THE HALLWAY!â You can hear her armor clinking as she runs towards you from another part of the building.
âSenpai! Hang in there! Iâm on my way!â
You nearly trip over Grim as he appears, but jump over him just in time, not stopping for a second, months of battle experience coming in handy. Fou is clutched tight to your chest as you make your escape.
âHey! Watch it! And keep it down over- AAAAAH! GHOSTS! GHOOOOOSTS!â The cat beast quickly gets the memo as he sees whatâs behind you and starts to sprint alongside you.Â
âAll the people who used ta live here got scared of us and ran away,â the small ghost says.Â
âWe just want a new ghost to play with! What do you say, buddy?â The big ghost asks.
âMASH! HELP US!â You yelp out as you see her, dashing behind her as she firmly slams her shield down between you and the ghosts with a resounding thud, stopping them in their tracks as she summons a thick wall of snowflakes, cutting off their access to you all.Â
Grim looks upon the swirling wall of snowflakes in wonder, raising his paw to bat at it, before he shakes himself out of the trance. âIâm a master sorcerer! I ainât afraid of any dumb ghosts! Myahaaa!â He shouts a rallying cry as he spits blue flame at the ghosts, which misses as the ghosts simply disappear and reappear out of the flamesâ reach.Â
âNuh-uh. Not even close,â the lanky ghost taunts.
âOver here! Over here! Ah ha ha ha!â teases the big ghost.Â
âArgh! They keep disappearing and reappearing!â Grim complains in frustration, spitting out more fire across the hallway.
âGrim, if you keep it up, at this rate, youâre gonna set the whole dorm on fire! Chill out! Let Mash handle it! Weâve got experience in taking care of ghosts!â you peak out from behind Mash, cringing at the parts of the dorm that heâs set ablaze.Â
âShaddup! I donât need any lip from you, human!â He growls back.
âHey, maybe Crowley will let you enroll if you actually get rid of them! You know, without causing major property damage while youâre at it?â you murmur, deadpanning.Â
âMyahâŚ?! Hmph⌠Iâm Grim, Master Sorcerer! How come I canât even hit one of these little-â
âAh ha ha ha ha ha ha!â The ghosts laugh in unison, taunting him.Â
âHrmph! Ganging up on us⌠Yer a buncha cowards!â Grim spits back in frustration.Â
âAre you aiming with your eyes closed? That might make it harder to see where they actually areâŚâ Mash points out gently.Â
âMyaaahâŚâ grumbling under his breath, Grim turns back to you both, pointing at you. âYou, human! You tell me which way the ghosts are!âÂ
âThat I can do! Mash, please make sure we don't accidentally set the whole dorm on fire!â You nod to Mash as you prepare yourself to essentially play whack-a-mole with the ghosts.
âOrders received, Master!âÂ
âLetâs do this! On your left, Grim!â You shout out, pointing left, to which the cat beast turns and sprays out a cone of blue flames, hitting the lanky ghost.Â
âAaaaah! It buurns!â
âHa, got one! Keep it up, just like thatâŚâ Grim seems surprised at his little victory. âAnd letâs clear out the whole lot of âem!â He pumps his little paw in the air, getting encouraged.Â

For those of you who patiently wait for the next chapter of Fated Order, I've been busy with end of year projects and exams. I promise that I will work on it when I go on winter break
The Remnant Order is underway and you've already solved 2 of the Psuedo-Singularities. After having a debriefing with Mash and Da Vinci, you head to your room to shower and get some well deserved rest. You turn the lights off and climb into your bed, pulling the covers up and getting comfortable. Closing your eyes, you swiftly drift off to sleep, exhausted.Â
In your dreams, you see a mirror. Green flames flicker in the mirror's reflection. An unknown male speaks.
"Ah, my dear esteemed benefactor⌠My proud, beautiful flower of evil. You are truly the fairest one of all. O magic mirror, thy wisdom I entreat⌠Reveal unto me the visage I seekâŚ"
A black carriage is drawn by horses toward a gate. On the other side stands what seems to be a massive castle with many spires. The full moon illuminates the path ahead. The scene returns to that of the mirror, and the voice speaks once more.
"You, whose image the Dark Mirror did beckon forth⌠If your heart bids it, take the hand of the one reflected in the mirror."
The silhouette of a hand takes shape within the mirror, enticing. The image is replaced by that of a vermillion flame.
"As flame reduces even the stars to ashâŚ"
A shard of ice appears next.
"As ice seals away even time itselfâŚ"
Vibrant green energy swirls within the glass.
"As great trees even swallow the skyâŚ"
The imagery fades to black once more.Â
"Fear not the power of darkness. Now â demonstrate your power."
A bright light grows, originating from the mirror, until it completely overtakes your vision. Then, nothing but darkness and that mysterious voice.
"To me. To them. To yourself. The hour grows long and time is scarce. Keep steady your grip, no matter what may comeâŚ"
You're startled out of the dream by the sound of something trying to open a locked door. You open your eyes to complete darkness. Feeling around, you seem to be in an enclosed space. Had you been unconscious in your coffin upon your return from a rayshift? That can't be right, considering there would probably be a lot more commotion had that been the case. So what happened then?
"I better hurry up and find that uniform before someone spots meâŚ" Somewhat of a nasally, quirky, whiny voice speaks from the other side of the door.
This is also a voice you've never heard before. Could this be a random staff member you've never spoken to before? Why are they looking for a uniform in your coffin? Why do they fear getting caught?
      "Urggggh⌠This lid weighs a ton!"Â
Did the coffin door get stuck? You try pushing on it from the inside.Â
"Try this on for size! Mya-ha!"Â
You don't think you like where this is going. Suddenly, blue flames overtake the front of the coffin and you yelp. You kick open the door at the same time it gives way. The first thing that occurs to you is that this is not Chaldea. But that's to focus more on later; more importantly you bat down the bit of flame sparking on your robes, of which you've never seen before.Â
"What?! You ain't supposed to be awake!" You now see that the voice belongs to a gray, cat-like creature with flaming ears and a forked tail. You assume it's a magical beast or something, because last time you checked cats don't look like that, nor do they talk.Â
"What are you? A hellcat?" You squint at the small creature in front of you.
"How⌠How DARE YOU! I am no mere CAT! I'm Grim, sorcerer extraordinaire!"Â
"Fou!" Out from your coffin pops none other than Fou. Curious how he always manages to sneak along with you. The small beast scampers onto your shoulder and perches there.Â
"That thing is more of an animal than I am! Tch. Whatever. You⌠human! Just gimme your uniform, and be quick about it!"
You cross your arms. "I have a name, you know? And why would I give you the clothes that I'm wearing? They're the only thing I'm wearing and they wouldn't fit you, since they're human sized." Fou makes a sound in what seems to be agreement.
"Oh-ho! You got a lotta nerve talking back to me, human! The name's Grim. Believe me, you won't forget it! Now gimme your uniform, and be quick about it! Cause if you don't⌠you're going to regret it!" Blue flames flicker to life again and lick at your legs.
Jumping back, you yell at him, "Hey! Stop trying to roast me, you little rat! You're gonna set this whole place ablaze!"Â
You start to hear a muffled yelp from another coffin, accompanied by some commotion from inside. Next thing you know, the lid flies open and out jumps your dearest kouhai, Mash.Â
"Senpai, are you in trouble? I'm here to help!" She rushes over to you with a determined look on her face.Â
"Hey, come on! I'm on a tight schedule here!"Â
More fire spews forth from the cat-like beast and Mash maneuvers you both away from its reach, grabbing your hand and making a run for it. You burst through a set of doors and dash down an open corridor. You pass what seem to be classrooms and a perfectly trimmed courtyard. At last you both flee into a library. It's like one you've never seen before, and there are a couple of books literally floating around. You take a second to catch your breath.
"Hey, Mash? Do you happen to know where we are? Cause I have no clue."Â
As soon as you finish speaking, you feel a flare of heat and Mash pushes you away from it again. Standing there, looking smug, is the hellspawn.Â
"Foolish humans! Did you really think you could slip away from ME? Now, unless you wanna get burned to a crisp, take off thoseâ Me-YEOW! That hurt! What gives?"
Behind Grim stands a pale man, dressed in a suit, holding the offending whip. He hosts a coat with an impressive blue collar and plenty of dark feathers. On his face is a crow-like mask that covers only the top half of his face. The man has beady gold eyes, pointed ears, and wavy black hair. The black top hat on his head has a blue ribbon around the base, with a decorative mirror, keys, and a feather arranged aesthetically.Â
"Consider it tough love," he starts to scold the gray beast. He then turns to you and Mash. "Ah, I've found you at last. Splendid. I trust you both are some of this year's new students? My, were you ever eager to make your debut." He crosses his arms. "And bringing a poorly trained familiar with you? That is a clear violation of the school's rules."
His voice rings a bell, but you can't tell why. Also, this does seem to be a school, but not any that you are familiar with.Â
"As if I'd serve some lowly human! Now lemme go!"
"Yes, yes. Rebellious familiars always say that. Do be quiet for a bit, won't you?" The mysterious man places a hand over Grim's mouth.
          "Mmmrrph!"
"Yeah, he's not my familiar, I've never even seen his species before today. If anything, Fou here is more like my familiar than that little guy." You shake your head, disagreeing with the man's assumption, before motioning to the small beast still perched on your shoulder.Â
Unfortunately, it seems he completely ignores you. "Dear me. Of all the students I've dealt with, you two are the first with temerity enough to open their own gates and step out of them."Â
You go to speak up, but he continues to scold you.
"Does the very notion of patience elude you? No matter. Your orientation has already begun. Let us return to the Mirror Chamber."
"Uhhh, student? I don't recall signing up for school." You look over at Mash and she shrugs back at you.Â
"You awakened in a room full of gates, did you not? All of the students here at the campus arrived by passing through such gates. Although typically the students have restraint enough to wait until I open them before waking up."
"Yeah, so, that hellcat totally tried to cremate me within mine, so no way I was staying in there. Then Mash heard the commotion and decided to help me not get roasted alive."
"Yes, I helped my senpai evade the flames and we ended up running down here." She nods resolutely.
          "Fou-fouuu!"
"You're the one who insisted on bringing it, so curtailing its behavior is your responsibility!" He raises a hand to his chin, "But now is not the time for such prattle. You've a student orientation to attend! Go on, now. Make haste."Â
You deadpan. He's been prattling this entire time. "Well, first of all, where are we exactly?"Â
Mash nods. "Yes, this does not seem to be the Clocktower, nor the Atlas Institute."Â
"Hm? Have neither of you fully regained consciousness? The timespace teleportation must have addled your memories⌠Well, these things happen, I suppose. I shall explain it to you while we walk. Truly, my magnanimity is boundless."
With that the man turns and starts to walk back the way you came, Mash and yourself following after him. However, you both follow at a distance, so you can speak to one another without him hearing.Â
"So far, our situation seems pretty bizarre, but that's not too unordinary for us. I think I remember going to sleep in my bed last night, so I have no clue how we got here; I assume that's the same for you. We don't know where 'here' is yet, he didn't seem to recognize the Clocktower, nor the Atlas Institute. We seem to be in more modern times, considering our surroundings, and they know of magic, however not of some of the most famous modern magic institutions."
Mash nods and enters her own input, "These uniforms are not any I recognize either, and the magical energy feels different here. It's not quite on the same scale as the Age of Gods, but not quite the same as our modern magic either. We need to see if we can set up a connection with Chaldea, so we can communicate with them."
"Let's prioritize finding the nearest leyline, if any, and finding out more information on where we are."Â
Mash nods in response to your order, "Yes, Master, orders received!"
You find yourselves back in the courtyard when the man begins to speak again, "Ahem. This is Night Raven College. It is an institution for students the world over who demonstrate a rare aptitude for magic. It is the most prestigious academy of its sort in all of Twisted Wonderland. And I am Dire Crowley. Having been entrusted with its care by the chairman, I serve as headmage.âÂ
âTwisted⌠Wonderland?â You question, your expression scrunching up in confusion. You and Mash share an inquisitive look, then direct your attention back to Crowley. âAnd you have magic here?â
âOnly those who the Dark Mirror perceives as having a talent for magic are admitted to the college. Those who are selected are summoned to the campus through those âgatesâ, which can appear anywhere. A black carriage bearing one such gate should have come to meet you.â
This elicits a hum from your throat as you bring a hand up to your mouth in contemplation. What heâs describing sounds like the strange dream or vision that lingers in the recesses of your mind. âI recall a dark forestâŚâ You mutter to yourself. Mash looks at you curiously.
âSenpai?â
âThat black carriage serves to receive a student chosen by the Dark Mirror. It too bears a gate that connects to this campus. And, as you know, sending a carriage to meet someone on a special day is a time-honored tradition,â Crowley says matter-of-factly.Â
âHuh? Time-honored tradition? Where and since when?â You shake your head in confusion. Mash looks at you and shrugs, looking just as lost as you are.Â
Grim starts to fuss at this, squirming in Crowleyâs grasp. âMmfff! Mmmmmmfff!â
âNow, let us attend to your orientation,â the headmage ushers you all along, bringing you all back to the mirror chamber.Â
As your group enters, you hear voices speaking, the first of which being a boy with hair as red as a rose and eyes a striking silver. âWeâre done with orientation and dorm assignments? All right, new students - let me be clear. At Heartslabyul House, I am the law. Break the rules, and itâs off with your head!âÂ
The next to speak up is a dark-skinned boy with long, brown hair, sharp green eyes, and lion ears that occasionally twitch, proving their authenticity. Itâs a bit odd, as you donât quite know what he is, but heâs certainly not a Servant. He yawns, looking extremely done with everything. âWell, that ceremony was as boring as ever. Iâm going back to the dorm. If youâre in Savanaclaw House, follow me.âÂ
âNew students! Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your achievement,â this comes from a boy with glasses, silvery hair and eyes, and a beauty mark near the bottom corner of his mouth. âAs dorm leader of Octavinelle House, I am honored to have the opportunity to support you in what I hope will be a fulfilling campus experience.â
Another voice speaks up to address the group, the owner being a very handsome boy with lilac colored eyes and shiny, blonde hair with purple highlights. âHey, does anyone know where the headmage went? He disappeared midway through the ceremonyâŚâ He trails off.
Before any from your group can announce your presence, yet another voice chimes in. Though, when you look for the origin, you notice it comes from a floating tablet. âSome headmage he is.âÂ
âMaybe he had a tummyache?â Another boy with dark skin responds; he has short, white hair and ruby red eyes.Â
Crowley finally pipes up, âI most certainly did not!â
âAh, speak of the devil,â the first boy mutters once more.
Ignoring this, the headmage continues. âIf you must know, I was searching for the new students whoâd failed to show for orientation. You two are the only ones who have yet to be assigned to a dorm. Step up to the Dark Mirror, and be quick about it. Iâll watch your weasel.âÂ
Grim growls in response to this.
âAgain, not mine, but whatever,â you mutter under your breath as you and Mash step up to the Dark Mirror.Â
Mash goes first, gazing deep into the mirror as it sizes her up.
âState your name.â A face that looks more like a mask is present within the mirror, a scowl etched into its features.Â
âI am Mash, Mash Kyrielight,â she states, clearly and confidently.
âMash. The nature of your soul is⌠unclear to me.â
âWhat did you just say?â Crowley questions in bewilderment.
âMagic resides in her, this much is true. However, it does not suit this place. The sound of it, its color, and its shape are not any that Iâve bore witness to before. Therefore, no dorm would be appropriate.âÂ
Everything is silent for a moment, then the headmage gestures for you to take your place in front of the mirror.
âState your name,â the mirror states again.
âY/F/N Y/L/N.â
âY/F/N. The nature of your soul⌠is the same, it does not suit this place.â
Silence takes over once more, then Crowley asks, âAre you suggesting that the black carriage went to retrieve two people who are incompatible? But that is absurd! The student selection process has not erred once in its century of existence! How could this have happened?â He brings his hand up to his face curiously.
Grim struggles until he frees himself. âMmmph! Nnnrgggh⌠ME! Let ME have this studentâs seat!âÂ
The headmage glares at the small beast, âNot so fast, you hyperactive weasel!â
âUnlike those humans, I totally belong here! So let me be a student here!â Grim crosses his arms with a smirk. âLook, Iâll show you! My spellsâre the catâs meow!â
Almost as if sensing the coming chaos, the red haired boy shouts out in warning, âEveryone, get down!â
With what seems to be his best attempt at a roar, Grim unleashes a burst of blue flames within the room. Mash quickly covers you with her body, materializing into her Servantâs attire and manifesting her shield.Â
The boy with red eyes begins to yell. âAHHHHH! HELP! Iâm on fire over here!â He frantically hops about, his tail end smoking. You rush over to help pat out the flame.Â
âSomeone catch that blasted animal before it sets the entire school ablaze!â The headmage shouts out.
The boy with the lion ears sighs, âUgh. Can I go now, orâŚ?â
âOh? I thought you fancied yourself a hunter. Go and help yourself to that plump little morsel!â The handsome boy raises a brow with a smirk.
âToo much effort. Do it yourself,â the lion eared boy immediately quips back.
âAllow me to handle this, Headmage Crowley. If none of you are up to the task of catching a small animal, I will accept the responsibility.â Magnanimously, the boy with the glasses offers.
âWTG Azul. Rackinâ up those participation credits,â the tablet sounds off.
The boy with the red eyes looks at you with a bright smile. âAh! Thank you! You really saved me there!â
âIâm sorry, were my instructions unclear?!â Crowley exclaims, frustrated.Â
Entirely uncaring, the green eyed boy responds, âPreeetty sure you can handle catching one mangy weasel all on your lonesome there, headmage.âÂ
âHow many times do I gotta say it? Iâm Grim, spellcaster extraordinaire! I am NOT a weasel!â The offending creature continues to run his mouth, much to all of your chagrin.Â
Azul chimes in, âArenât you a spunky little fellow? Riddle, would you be so kindâŚ?â
âFurry miscreant. I will abide no rule-breaking. You will be judged by my hand.âÂ
Riddle and Azul begin to chase after the creature and you turn to look at Mash. âMash, go and help them. Iâll stay and help out here!â
âOrders received, Master!â And with that, Mash runs off to aid the two mages in subduing the cat beast.Â

Sylvain getting into an argument with his playful and funny friend
Reader here is female
He always liked how casual you were about everything. You were one of the only people who wouldn't be so serious about everything.
Even if you were always under pressure due to your status and family expectations, you were always ready to crack a joke and make his day.
After the war started you were just the same as always and he was so glad to see that you haven't lost your spirit no matter what.
But your messing around caused one of your friends to ask "Do you ever even cry? You never care about what everyone says to you do you?" and you were quite surprised to hear that "Huh? Of course I do. I have emotions just like everyone does"
You argued with your friend over it and you then vented to Sylvain about it. As someone who was accused of the same plenty of times he knew how upset it must've got you.
"Some people won't understand even if you spell it out to them Y/N, but if it means anything I do understand. After all we're not so different are we? So we might as well stay together, us against the world" if he said it with any other tone you'd assume that he's flirting with you. But his voice was sweet and concerned, rather than playful.
The conversation stickied with both of you, even though you were already friends knowing that you're truly allies by every means of the word was rather comforting.
But just like any friends you had a few arguments. Some were small and you apologized right away, but this time it wasn't like that.
You were just so done with all the girls complaining to you about him. They all would ask why you'd be friends with such a monster or can't you do something about him. There were few that just came to cry to you too.
You told him to just stop with that already and it pretty much started it "Since when do you dictate how I live my life? It's none of your business so why should you care anyways?"
"Not my business? Do you know how many of your ex girlfriends come complaining to me!? I'll tell you: way too much" you didn't include how also hearing people say such things about him to you is tiring since you just wanted to get to the point.
The argument kept going, and before he had the time to consider his words he just snapped "Oh I'm so sorry miss perfect but not everyone can be as great as you"
He was angry but when he saw how his words hurt you he felt bad. He didn't have the time to apologize though because you left with tears in your eyes.
He felt almost paralyzed, he wanted to run after you but something kept him from doing so.
He just stood there shocked at how he could say such a thing when he knew how much you hated the word perfection.
After he calmed himself down he wanted to go to you right away, and that's what he did.
Of course not without a gift. He didn't wanted to pay for your forgiveness- but rather just make it up for being such a fool.
He was nervous, he often messed things up but since it's you he feels triple as guilty. He thought you even might not want to see him but when you didn't immediately shut the door upon seeing him he figured it was okay for him to speak.
"Y/N I'm so sorry for what I said back there" he still found himself not able to say much more than that. At the very least he got his point across.
He was rather desperate, so he felt dumb for saying just sorry. He wanted to say something but he just doesn't know how to put it together.
You could see that he regrets it but it was only fair for you to now make him pay for making you cry.
With a straight face you closed the door of your room. He was surprised to say the least.
When you re-opened it you joked "I thought you of all people would be used to girls shutting the door in your face like that" you didn't say it in a malicious way so he smiled back at you.
He totally deserved that one and he isn't afraid to admit to it.

Chapter 2: Found Myself in Wonderland
You pace back and forth by the Mondstadt bridge, Sunsettia rind long discarded into the lake, polearm resting against the tree trunk. Biting your bottom lip, you hold a hand over your mouth, partially because you're in shock, partially because you're thinking. You try to think back to what happened before you got here; it was late, you were playing Genshin with Deo, then sparks started flying out of your PlayStation. Suddenly, next thing you know, you awoke on the edge of Dragonspine. Sure, it was fun to explore the lore and terrain of this world, that is, as an outsider looking in; however, now that you are actually in Teyvat, the reality of how dangerous a world it is sinks into the fibre of your very being. Do any of the game mechanics work here? If you die here, do you die for real? How does one build a life from a couple hundred mora, a Beginner's Protector, and pajamas? Is it possible to gain a vision? How long will you be stuck here?Â
Before your internal meltdown can spiral anymore, you're interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching. Focusing your gaze, you recognize the three figures coming down the bridge, talking amongst themselves: Razor, Bennett, and Fischl. Your first instinct is to either run away or jump into the lake, but that would only guarantee their attention shifting onto you. Your body freezes up instead and your hand clenches into a fist at your side. Swallowing anxiously, you try to calm your breathing and stifle any noise you might make; hopefully theyâre too absorbed in their conversation to even notice your presence. The seconds that pass as you wait for them to walk by seem to crawl on. As they draw closer, more details about them become clearer and you can hear their conversation, something about a past adventure. You notice that Oz is out and accompanying the Prinzessin der Verurteilung, and that he chimes into the conversation every so often. Theyâre almost upon you now and seem to be paying no mind to your being, and your tense muscles slowly start to relax.Â
âHm? Mein Fräulein.â A slight nod from the raven is made in your direction. The blonde girl turns her head in your direction and curiously looks you over. The boys with her, upon noticing her diverted attention, turn to look towards you as well. You close your eyes and click your tongue, sighing in despair; of course this would happen, just your luck. You open your eyes once more as the trio, no, quartet make their way over to you. They take their time to scrutinize your appearance, and you do the same; itâs weird seeing them in front of you and knowing that, here, theyâre real.Â
âI created another universe and founded paradise. For I, Fischl, Prinzessin der Verurteilung, descend upon this land by the call of fate an- hmmmm. Have I perhaps made thy acquaintance in an era or realm previous? Thy countenance is familiar to an outlander such as myself.â While addressing you, Fischl goes about her usual theatrics and posing. Then, Bennett speaks up.
âYeah! I feel like Iâve seen you before too! Kinda weird, donât ya think? It feels like I know you, maybe weâve gone on an adventure together in the past? Your name is on the tip of my tongue!â Razor nods along as Bennett strokes his chin in thought, sounding out certain syllables that eventually get closer to the start of your name.Â
âRazor has seen you. Your scent, I know it.âÂ
You laugh awkwardly. âMe? You think Iâm familiar? Maybe I just have one of those faces, you know. Iâm from Fontaine, my name is, uh, (Y/N).â Your tone gets quieter at the end; you input your actual first name into the game in place of the Travelerâs. This seems to ring a bell in Bennettâs head as his green eyes light up.Â
âRight! Your name is (Y/N)! Iâm Bennett, the leader of Bennyâs Adventure Team! We mustâve run into each other in the past or maybe even in a dream.â He nods as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. "So, (Y/N), are ya headed into the city? You've been there before, right? Otherwise, I can't think of how else we would've run into each other." He scratches his head.Â
"U-um, well, I mean, I've traveled around Mondstadt, but I don't think I've actually been in the city." You shrug and try to keep a reign of the cover story you're making for yourself.Â
"Ah, then permit the ever generous and esteemed Prinzessin to guide you through her grandiose dwelling place in this distant realm." Fischl smiles and does her signature pose, her green eye gleaming.Â
"Mein Fräulein is truly a gracious monarch."Â
You nod and, without thinking, offer back, "Danke schĂśn." To which you freeze up.
Fischl's eye widens for a moment, before she smiles brightly. "Bitte sehr! I see that you indeed are an outlander of the highest calibre, you who possesses the knowledge of the language of Mond."Â
Sheepishly, you rub the back of your head. "Don't hold me to too high a standard, unfortunately I only retained a few common words and phrases; definitely not enough to make conversation."
âWell, itâs still really cool! Iâve always wanted to learn a different language, but I wouldnât really have anywhere to use it, I rarely leave Monstadt nowadays.â Bennett scratches the back of his head. Razor and Fischl nod along.
âTis a rather unfortunate fate that our pilgrimage only leads us as far as Dragonspine, Stormterrorâs Lair, and Stormbearer Point.â The archer sighs and shakes her head.Â
This confuses you, because Razor was on your team when you first started exploring Liyue, and you bring Bennett almost everywhere with you, even now. Youâre very empathetic to Bennettâs stroke of bad luck because you too suffer from pretty bad luck. âYeah, that must really suck. Iâm sorry yâall.â You frown, now thinking about the differences of this instance as compared to your own playthrough of Genshin.Â
Sensing the somber mood now, Bennett perks up again. âWell, Iâm sure weâll get a chance to travel again soon! Letâs get headed to the city for now, though! Youâre probably gonna want some supplies and a place to stay, right?â The others perk up again as well.
With a humf, Fischl points towards the city, âPrepare thyself, (Y/N), for the most spectacular jaunt one could ever take part in.â A second later, Oz chimes in, âWhat mein Fräulein means to say is that she is ready to start the tour whenever you are.â
You nod and turn to grab your polearm, then follow behind the quartet and down the bridge and towards the city, scarring off Timmieâs pigeons and snickering lightly to yourself as he whines. You look at the backs of the three in front of you and accidentally tune out their commentary as you get distracted, thinking now about the game mechanics and UI, wondering if youâre able to access it here. And, as if by game logic, your polearm disappears from your hand in that familiar gold glitter and takes its place somewhere in time-space. You think about what you should have in your inventory so far, which is a couple hundred mora and that polearm, and come to the conclusion that you should check in with Katheryne to see if you can get signed up in the Adventurersâ Guild; after all, you don't know how long you'll be in this world, so you should try make your stay as comfortable as possible, which requires mora.Â
You all pass the front guards, Lawrence and Swan if you remember correctly, and they glance at you in suspicion, but relax a bit as they see the party you're with. You tune in as Fischl points off to the left, over to Mondstadt's local blacksmith, Wagner. He looks as busy as ever, forging what he will, the distinct sound of the hammer hitting iron filling the immediate area. His apprentice, Schulz, stands behind him, watching him work.Â
âThataway you will discover the Prinzessinâs favored smith in these distant lands, the iron tough Wagner. Whether under the heavensâ gaze or their teardrops like sorrow, he is accountable to forge whatever one might need for their adventures. If thou art ever in need of a weapon suiting thy caliber, Wagner is sure to be qualified to produce it.âÂ
âIâll be sure to pay him a visit when I earn some Mora. Unfortunately for me, I slept too close to the water and my things got swept away with the tide. I found what I have now inside an old chest.â You awkwardly scratch the back of your neck and Bennett finds himself nodding in solidarity of your supposed misfortune. You feel bad for lying to them, but itâs necessary if you donât want to find yourself ostracized in the best case scenario, or impaled upon a polearm worst case scenario.Â
âWell, the three of us are actually pretty active in the Adventurersâ Guild here; Fischlâs even an investigator for the guild. Weâre always recruiting new adventurers, so Iâm sure Cyrus wouldnât mind. Ya know what? The Guildâs receptionist, Katheryne, is actually right up those steps over there, so we can go talk to her and get you signed up. That way you can make enough Mora to get yourself back on your feet. My adventure team actually just happens to have a vacancy at the moment if you were interested in going around with us!â Bennett points out the brown haired woman.
âYeah, thatâd be great, if you donât mind,â you respond with just as much enthusiasm and you all make your way up the steps to talk to the bionic puppet.Â
âAd astra abyssosque! Welcome to the Adventurersâ Guild.â Katheryne gives her signature greeting and you take a moment to gaze upon her in all her wonder. Meanwhile, Bennett and Fischl talk to her about getting you signed up for the Guild. âUnfortunately, your request can not be completed here, (Y/N).â
Confusion colors not only your face, but the faces of your new comrades as well. âW-what do you mean by that, Katheryne?â You canât think of a time in-game when you were unable to speak to Katheryne.
âIâm sorry, but I am unable to provide further assistance.â
Bennett and Fischl finish up whatever business they have with the receptionist and you all continue on your walk through the city. âMan, Iâm sorry (Y/N), I really donât know what that was all about. Why wouldnât Katheryne be able to sign you up for the Guild? I mean, the Traveler was able to sign up and heâs not even from Teyvat.â
You awkwardly cough into your fist at the last part of that statement. âWell, I donât know, maybe there was some issue for some reason. But, itâs ok! I can still probably still collect random little things from adventuring with you guys that I can use, no problem.â You wave your hands back and forth to assure them that itâs no issue. âUm, should we continue with the tour?â You ask, eager to move on from that situation.Â
âFantastic idea dear compatriot.â With that, you all resume your prior activity and the two more outspoken members of the group introduce you to Flora, the flower peddler, and Donna; the latter of whom you absolutely canât stand. Upon hearing that familiar sigh before her trademark catchphrase, you promptly walk off in the direction of Angelâs Share; the others in your group are quick to follow.Â
â(Y/N) okay?â Razor is quick to pick up on your annoyance as he strides up next to you.
âHuh? Oh, yeah, Iâm ⌠fine. Sometimes, certain types of people have a habit of tiring me out very quickly. It seems that Donna is the sort.â You grumble and shake your head.
âMm, Razor same.â He nods and you turn to him and smile, knowing heâs more comfortable in the wild, than in the city.
âYouâre a good friend Razor, I promise that one day Iâm gonna make a feast for yâall with all the meat you can eat!âÂ
âMmmm I like meat. Meat gives energy to be strong!â
As you guys arrive at Angelâs Share, you check the billboard outside and see that it still has a missing personâs poster for the Travelerâs twin, however something about it strikes you as odd. The twin that itâs describing is Lumine. In your game, the twin you picked was Lumine. Bennett also referred to the Traveler as a âheâ earlier, which means he meant Aether. So, this must mean that you are not in your own version of Genshin, which might explain the whole mixup with Katheryne.Â
âThis is Angelâs Share, one of Mondstadtâs local taverns. The tavern is funded and stocked by Dawn Winery. They serve some good non-alcoholic drinks as well.â Bennett informs you as he holds the door open for you all. You all take seats at the bar and Charles, the bartender, hands you a menu. Looking at the prices of the drinks, you slowly slide the menu back to Charles.
âYeah, I actually visited Dawn Winery on my way here. Itâs beautiful and there seems to be an abundance of crystalflies hanging around, which only adds to the atmosphere.â
âHark! Praise the Prinzessin for her generosity as I provide drinks for this festive occasion! Enlighten the barman with your preferred beverage.â With her usual flourish, Fischl comes to your aid by offering to buy your drink.Â
âMy my, mein Fräulein, what a joyous occasion indeed. Glory be to the Prinzessin der Verurteilung. This is quite the wise way to spend the bonus you received on your recent commissions.âÂ
âOz, hush.âÂ
âThank you so much Fischl, this means a lot to me. How lucky I am to be treated favorably by the esteemed Prinzessin.â You smile gratefully at her and she blushes slightly, clearing her throat and shooing you with a hand.
âYes, yes, quite the fortunate individual, undeniably.â
Turning to Charles, you tell him your order, "I heard that the Apple Cider that the Dawn Winery makes is fantastic, so I'll have a glass of that please!" In turn, Bennett orders a cider as well, Razor gets some Wolfhook Juice, and Fischl asks for a Mint Berry Burst.Â
You all take some time, chatting about likes and dislikes, the people of Mond, and the landâs history. They tell you about the Knights of Favonius and how they differ from the Adventurersâ Guild. The topic even drifts to the Anemo Archon. âAh, yes, I actually know quite a bit about the God of Freedom. Itâs, um, a hobby of mine to research things regarding the Seven, I guess you could say.â
âWeâre actually all friends with a girl at the cathedral, her name is Barbara. She probably knows a whole lot about the Anemo Archon. In fact, we can go visit her later on, if you want?â Bennett chimes in.
âYeah, thatâd be great. Iâve always admired the whole ideal of freedom that Barbatos represents; Iâm much a free-spirit myself.â You take a sip of your drink and enjoy the refreshing coolness that it brings.Â
Finishing your drinks, Fischl pays for them, and you all head back out, the destination this time being the cityâs main plaza. They show you to The Good Hunter and the general goods store, as well as the alchemy bench, where you chat with Timaeus for a bit. Then, they show you where the Knightsâ Headquarters is, and talk to you about Jean, Lisa, and Klee. You all stop by the Adventurersâ Guild and meet some of Bennettâs dads. Finally, your group makes its way up to the cathedral. As you climb up the stairs, youâre not surprised to see the grand statue of Barbatos. However, what you are surprised to see is another statue situated in the cathedralâs plaza. This statue has many offerings left around its base, looking like theyâve been left fairly recently. As you approach this other statue, Fischl chimes up behind you.
âGaze thine eyes upon the magnificent likeness that has been crafted of our omnipotent Creator. A fortunate some allogenes have even bore witness to Their power running through their very beings, as we three have had the blessed connection ourselves. Though, none have stronger a connection than the Traveler and Their Excellency.âÂ
You tune everything out once more as a startling revelation makes itself known. Not only have you been somehow transported to the land of Teyvat, but, more specifically, a version of Teyvat that worships Deo as their apparent progenitor. The likeness of that statue is one youâve seen before, in that of your very own best friend.
So, I made my own Isekai/SAGAU Genshin fic. I hope you like it.

Chapter 1: Down the Rabbit Hole
Thunder and lightning crashed outside your window, the wind howling through the dead of night. Itâs Friday morning, technically, and you were sent home early from work Thursday evening, due to the severe thunderstorms roving through your area, which had knocked out the power at your workplace. Miraculously though, your electric grid was a fighter, and has refused to go down so far, save for the flicker of the streetlights every now and then. Your face is illuminated by the flashes of lightning and the screen of your television, portraying the game booted up on your Playstation. The comforting timbre of your best friend, Deoâs, voice filtering through your phoneâs speaker accompanies the cries of nature outside. Youâve known each other for around five years now and often chat and play video games together. Currently, you two are playing an open world rpg named âGenshin Impactâ, developed by a company called âMihoyoâ. You found out about it around a year ago now, and had been hooked by the adventure it promised and the extensive lore. Deo doesnât live too far away from you, and is, conveniently, on your same electric grid. You were chatting about how there was supposedly a full moon tonight, somewhere beyond the storm clouds.
âI donât know, (Y/N), we should probably go to bed soon. Weâre approaching the witching hour, and all things considered about tonight, Iâm getting weird vibes. Once it hits three-something, I start seeing shit.â She always was the superstitious type. Sure, it was approaching three in the morning, and yes, it was now Friday the thirteenth, but you always considered it your lucky day, due to your rather bad luck. Plus, most of that stuff was probably made up in the old ages by hysterics and paranoiacs.
âPssh, youâre probably just seeing stuff cause youâre sleep deprived. Cmon! This event is almost over and we gotta make sure we enjoy it to the max! I mean, like, theater mechanicus rerun, hello? The flower garden thing? Fucking dueling? Bro, thereâs so much to do!â You desperately plead, trying to get her to give in just for tonight. You havenât been able to play much due to work, and you want to catch up before the Irodori Festival ends. âPlease? Iâll let you steal materials from my world for, like, two weeks!â
She grumbles and begrudgingly, with a sigh, she agrees. âBut only because I have characters that you donât, so I need different stuff, and I donât want to seem like a douchebag to any randos.â
With a victory yelp and a little victory dance, you smile. âThank you, thank you, thank you Deo! Neither of us have anything going on later, so weâll be fine! Letâs go play some theater mechanicus!â You shift your fingers on the controller and make Ayato run towards Komokata to get ready to play.
Deo presumably does the same, as Zhongli comes bounding into the area soon after. When sheâs selecting the stage for you both to challenge, thatâs when it happens. Your Playstation makes a weird sound and the screen flashes for a moment, before the screen turns completely white, and sparks start flying from your console. With a surprised yelp, you drop the controller, turning into yourself in a defensive position. Soon after, the sparking stops, and youâre left with a fried console and a white screen.
âWhat the fuck just happened? Oh no! My Playstation! Damnit.â You huff out in despair, shocked by the turn of events. Your friendâs voice comes through your phoneâs speakers once again.
âWhat happened? Are you ok? I heard you yelp. Whatâs going on?â Her concerned tone brings you back to Earth and you slump dejectedly in your chair. Just your luck, right?
âI think a bolt of lightning hit my house and caused a power surge; my console is totally fried, like, still smoking. And the tv is all jacked up too, itâs just a white screen. I hate this so much, dude.â You sigh and the frustration you feel almost brings you to tears. All your games, all your progress, all the money and time you spent, gone within seconds. âI donât even know how Iâm gonna explain this one to my dad. Iâm so majorly boned.â
âOh jeez, I canât believe that. Iâm sorry that happened. Guess thatâs a sign that I should probably get off as well. No offense, but I donât want to risk the same thing happening to me. Iâm gonna unplug my stuff.â You can hear some shuffling come from over the phone, but you just stare at the white screen, grieving your loss.
The more you stare at the white screen, the less you perceive the other things around you. Deo says something, but itâs muffled; it kind of sounds like you're under water. The thunder doesnât seem to shake your house anymore. Your vision tunnels, focused on just the white screen of despair. It almost seems to pull you in, until all you perceive is just white. A bland, emotionless, all-encompassing white, just as empty as your thoughts. It feels like an eternity is spent in this blank space, where neither time, nor matter, seem to reach. Your mind tries to make sense of this, but no thoughts linger, theyâre all fleeting, never even making it to comprehension.
An amount of time passes, you donât know how long, before you open your eyes to white, cloudy skies. You notice that itâs a little frigid, and you shiver. Your senses come back to you, one by one. Sight, then touch, your mouth feels dry, the smell of grass makes you want to sneeze, and you start to hear the wind blowing gently past. You blink, and take a moment to collect yourself, then you sit up with a groan, bringing your hands up to rub at your arms. Looking around, you see youâre on top of a hill, a couple sparse trees here and there, and there is a frost in the air and on the ground. Your brows furrow in confusion, and you wonder where you are, and how you got here. You stand up from the ground and turn around. Now, towering in front of you, is an icy mountain with clouds obscuring the top. Turning your head back in the other direction, you see what looks like a beacon of light in the distance. Looking down at yourself, you notice that you are in your pajamas, and with that, the memory of the events from earlier flashes through your mindâs eye. Now, youâre even more confused on where you are and how you ended up outside. You live in a city, nowhere close to a mountain.
Currently, youâre in the middle of the wilderness, and the only lead you have is a glowing light; things couldnât get any better could they? Sighing, you head towards the beacon, hoping that getting away from the mountain will rid you of the chill in your bones. After a couple of minutes, not too long, you arrive at a small cliff and moan in frustration. There are rocks jutting out of the side that you could use to aid your descent, but youâre not particularly known for your grace. The sun starts to shine over the horizon and you note that the clouds blocking the sky are behind you, and the sky is a magnificent blue. From the top of this cliff, northeast of where you are standing, you can see windmills, but they seem pretty far away. The beacon is a bit closer, still north of you, and you decide to check that out first, then head to what seems to be civilization.
Gently, you lower yourself off the edge, and try to do your best to make footholds in the side of the cliff. You get a couple feet down, then your foot slips, and you fall towards the ground. Curiously though, it doesnât hurt at all when you land, and you seem to have landed on the softest grass youâve felt in your life. You get up and brush yourself off, relishing in the warmth that the sun brings as it rises in the sky. Shifting back towards the beacon, you jolt in shock, because, a couple yards in front of you, are creatures youâve never seen before. Actually, you realize that you have seen these creatures somewhere before. They almost look like hilichurls. Well, that canât be right, hilichurls are fictional beings. Then, this must be a dream, you surmise. Still, youâd rather not get decked by the mitachurl that also seems to be there, so you try to sneak off to your right, away from the creatures. It works, as none of them seem alerted to your presence. Itâs a shame that you canât have a hilichurl friend, theyâre very cute, especially with the little dances they do.
Moving forward, you manage to stop yourself before you tumble off another cliff, only this one is bigger and you would most definitely die from that drop. The beacon, which you now guess to be a Statue of the Seven if you are in Teyvat in this weird dream, is on the other side of the valley in front of you, up another cliff, how fun. You see what looks to be Mondstadt in the distance and, if memory serves you correctly, you should be near Dawn Winery. A glance over to your left confirms this to be true, as you see the familiar rooftop poking out from just beyond the trees. Deciding that a little visit to your favorite wine tycoon canât hurt, you trek over in that direction. You carefully climb down another small cliff, thankfully not falling this time around. It seems that Teyvat just wants you to fall to your death because there is yet another steep cliff. Saying a prayer to whomever is listening, you start to scale down the side of the cliff. This time, just as your foot slips, you seem to find another foothold, and you make it all the way down, unscathed. You thank the gods, and scour this next ledge, finding a chest. You approach cautiously, knowing that monsters could appear as soon as you get close, but nothing happens. You open the chest and find a Beginnerâs Protector, a couple hundred Mora, and some weapon leveling material. Shrugging, you take the polearm and the Mora, thinking that it wouldnât hurt to have them. Thankfully, there seem to be a couple drop-offs that you can simply hop down from, and you continue down.
With a couple more strides forward, you make it to the path trod into the ground, and you sigh in relief. Glancing left, there sits the winery, and you make your way towards it with a bound in your step. Along the way, a thought occurs to you: what if none of these people know who you are, as you arenât a character in the game? You decide that itâd probably be best to act like some random NPC who got lost. Hopefully your pajamas donât throw anyone off, cause youâre not quite sure what Mondstadtian pajamas look like. Your approach is now a bit more cautious. Coming around the side of the manor, you walk right past the workers; ignoring the way a couple of them notice your presence, you walk straight into the manor. You could probably count on either Adelinde, Elzer, or Diluc, if heâs there, to help you.
Adelinde turns to the door as it opens, confusion covering her features at your state of dress. Bashfully, you draw nearer to her, rubbing the side of your arm. She looks you up and down with a calculating gaze, and upon seeing your features clearly, a shine glints in her eyes for but a moment, before fading away.
âHello, welcome to Dawn Winery. Is there something that I can help you with?â She looks off towards the corner for a moment, then settles her gaze back onto you.
âYes, hi, um, sorry.â You clear your throat and straighten out a bit, âI was traveling and my map got blown away, you see, and upon resting by the water for the night, I had awoken, soaking wet, to find that the tide was coming in, and that my pack had gotten washed away. This is my first big adventure and I donât really have the best of luck, obviously.â Trying your best to hold her gaze, you sweat nervously, hoping she doesnât pick up on the fact that you are lying.
âMmhm, and where do you hail from?â You can tell sheâs a bit skeptical and, digging into your brain for your knowledge of the lore, you try to find a place that would be believable.
âOh, uh, Iâm from Fontaine.â You smile and nod, hoping she doesnât ask you anymore questions. âAnyways, if you could just point me in the direction of Mondstadt, thatâd be wonderful.â
She nods, and doesnât seem entirely convinced, but gives you the directions nonetheless. âWhen you leave the manor, take the path that curves to the right of the Statue of the Seven. Then take the left path at the first fork, then right at the second, a left at the third, and another left over the bridge and into the city.â
You beam at her and nod fervently. âYes, thank you so much, miss! Sorry for bothering you!â And with that you turn on your heel and head out the door, noticing Elzer give you a look as you pass by. Once out of the manor, you speed walk past the workers once more, and sigh in relief once off the winery grounds. You follow Adelindeâs instructions, being sure to stick to the path, lest you run into any monsters. Youâd like to visit a Statue of the Seven, but you donât feel like climbing anymore, so you plan on visiting the one by Vennessaâs tree in Windrise.
The sun seems to be at the highest point in the sky now, so you assume that itâs about midday. Despite the rays of the sun beating down upon you, you donât feel too hot, thanks to the nice breeze blowing through the lands of Mond. You smile, enjoying the nice weather as you continue on your journey. The bridge into the city comes into view and you think you remember Windrise being somewhere down the path to your right. Turning down the right path, you pass by the lone adventurer stationed by a pot and she also gives you a weird stare, but, to be fair, you would too if someone was out adventuring in their pajamas. It only takes about five minutes before you see the grand tree a bit of a way into the distance.
Making your way down the path, a man starts to come into view, wearing the standard uniform for the Knights of Favonius. Heâs rather tall and has short brown hair, paired with blue eyes. You intend to walk right past him, however he moves to stand in your path. His right arm crosses his chest, then juts out straight down, angled away from his body; the motion of the Knightsâ salute. He calls out to you, âHalt! Welcome to Mondstadt, strange yet respectable wayfarer! Please state your identity and intended destination. The Knights of Favonius are here to ensure your safety."
You grimace slightly and shift awkwardly on your feet. âYeah, uh, hello. I am (Y/N), and I was just headed for the Statue of the Seven over here. Iâm, uh, Iâm sightseeing I suppose.â The polearm in your hand hangs languidly in your grip, tip pointed towards the earth. You do your best to maintain eye contact, but you find yourself looking away every now and then because of the overall stilted encounter.
He nods and his eyes trail along your form, scrutinizing your state of dress. You cough lightly into your hand, and he straightens up, gaze returning to your eyes. âI see! I am Godwin, a Knight of Favonius. You are currently in the Windrise area of Mondstadt; if you take this path, heading northwest, you will reach the city, where you will be able to find food, lodging, and clothing, or uh, essential items for your travels. Just ask any knight stationed in the city, and they should be able to direct you to places of interest.â
You nod and force a smile. âYes, thank you, Godwin. Iâll be sure to head there next. You, uh, youâve been a great help. Iâm gonna just get going; see you around, maybe, I think.â You trail off at the end and give him a small wave, stepping around him and heading towards the statue, moving straight through the grass to get there faster, not caring about the actual path. You can feel his gaze on you and you speed up your pace just a smidge to hurry away from him. In your peripheral, you can see what you think is a dendro slime bobbing around a seelie court, but you pay it no mind, as you donât know if youâd be capable of fighting it. Your bare feet meet the trodden path again, and this time you follow it to the statue. Slowing your pace, you look upon the scenery in front of you with wonder. The wind gently blows past, dancing leaves around you, and light filters gracefully through the canopy of the majestic tree. The gold on the statue glimmers beautifully under the rays of sunlight that touch upon it. You sigh out in awe of the moment and, for a small moment in time, you find it hard to believe that youâre dreaming. Everything looks and feels so real: the cool stone underfoot, Vennessaâs tree, the breeze gracing your figure. Walking up the steps, you approach the statue, wondering if youâd gain the power of Anemo upon touching it. Taking a deep breath in, you gently reach out and place your hand upon the statue. The wind stills for a second, but, other than that, nothing magnificent happens. You suppose you feel more energized, but not at all more powerful. You sigh in disappointment and turn around, heading back in the direction of the city.
As you walk, your stomach lets out a loud growl, and youâre thankful that you swiped the Mora from that chest so that you can buy something to eat. You spot a sunsettia tree as you near the bridge and you smile at the prospect of food. Making your way over, you pick the lowest hanging one and bite into it, relishing the sweet taste. Chewing, your mind starts to drift as you think about everything youâve felt and, now, tasted since waking up in what you first assumed was a dream. You decide to test if this really is a dream and bring your finger to the tip of your polearm. Holding your breath, you prick your finger and, in slight horror, realize that this is not a dream, due to the stinging pain.
