Imagine... You are Hickâs sister and you are in a relationship with Vascar/Black Hat.
Requested: Yes. @rachelcarroll1819
A/N: I hope you like this!
You had tried to escape the commotion outside the train door, but you werenât quick enough. You saw the badge before you saw his face, Hicks. There was nowhere to run, you were going to have to face him, your brother. When he realized that he was staring at his sister, part of him hoped you had been kidnapped with Lucy. His gut said differently. You looked happy to be on the train and you looked well cared for.
Before you could react, he grabbed your arm and was dragging you from the train and your home. You screamed and you screamed,
âVascar, help me!â He turned to you for a spilt-second and went back to fighting Priest. They were fighting over Lucy. Vascar didnât even really want her, he wanted Priest, but now their fight was more important. You hoped it was because Vascar saw that it was your brother.Â
Hicks dragged you farther and farther from the train and all of the commotion; you struggled against him long enough to turn around and see the train, and the spot where Vascar had just been standing, explode. His hat drifted back down to the ground at the Priestâs feet. Your life was over. Even if they decided not to kill you, you knew you would never find a love like that again.
When the Priests, Lucy, and Hicks finally managed to drag you back to their makeshift base of operations, they started with the interrogation. How had the sister of the Sherrif end up with Black Hat and why did it look like you wanted to be there?
Your brother was at it again, telling you what to do and where you could and couldnât go. You were beyond tired of it, and quite frankly, very spiteful. You decided a walk wouldnât kill you, and if it did, it wouldnât be your problem for long.
Fifteen minutes into your protest walk, you heard someone following you, stopping, you expected them to stop too.Â
âYou shouldnât be out here at night, Darlinâ. Donât you know there are vampires running amuck?â His tone was dangerously playful and you could feel his predatory advance behind you, causing all of the hairs on the back of your neck you stand. Â
âI do, actually,â you sounded much more confident than you felt, but he knew that.
âThen why, may I ask, are you out here and alone?â genuine curiosity laced his voice as he approached closer still.
âMaybe, just, maybe I want a vampire to come in and end my misery? Or maybe Iâm bait? Or perhaps still, I am not alone, youâre here right?â To him you sounded cocky, to you, this was how you always answered questions you thought were dumb or not their business.Â
âYes, I am here, but I am also not a friend to you. Your heart is beating a mile a minute. Are you afraid or more excited?â You could hear it now, the slight slur that one would expect talking around fangs would sound like.
âBlack Hat, I presume?â You tried to sound as uninterested as possible, but you wanted to turn around and get a good look at him. Some who claim to have seen him say he looks like a monster, others like the devil himself. A select few say he is the most handsome man they had ever seen; judging by his voice, he was handsome as hell.
He didnât respond this time. He didnât move closer. He just stayed still and watched you in amazement. You moved first. turning to look at him. You didnât look afraid.
âThey were all a bunch of lying...â he was very handsome, but he was more than that, he had been a priest. âAre you going to kill me or gawk at me all night?â you looked puzzled. He realized then that he still hadnât made another move.
âI was actually contemplating a third option.â It was his turn to pretend to be confident. âYou clearly have a death wish, being out here alone like this, but you are unafraid of me. You clearly know who I am and what I am capable of, yet you donât even bat an eye. Why arenât you afraid of me?â
âI donât know. I just donât feel very threatened right now. If you wanted to kill me, I donât think you would have stood around talking as much as you have. I think that was your intention, but it seems to have changed. Neither of us is a current threat to the other and as long as it stays that way, I am not going to be afraid. Besides, I want to leave this place; doesnât matter if it is by death or whatever you have planned.â You were being honest. You felt calm around him. Everything was at ease.
âI could use the company. The vampires donât speak and I rather miss conversations. You would probably have to become more nocturnal though. I can be out during the day, but I do better at night and thatâs when I take care of the vampires.â He sounded like he was honestly considering it.
âWhere are they now,â for the first time you had noticed that they werenât around and you were suddenly confused as to why he was even here.
âNext town over. I decided I wanted to go for a walk in relative peace, and Iâm glad that I did.â He had ended up closer somehow, even though you hadnât taken your eyes off from him.
âWill I be safe with you?â You couldnât believe you were actually considering this.
âI swear, no harm will come to you while you are a guest on the train.â You believed him.
You donât know when you had started crying. You had been sitting there in silence while they yelled at you. That had been the best night of your life, and every night since had been a close second. Tonight was by far the worst of your life. You felt empty and cold; you could feel a numbness spreading from your fingers and toes heading towards your heart. Inside, you were dying and it was because he was missing.
Four and a half months ago:
âI wish I had never taught you to play poker!â it was the third game in a row that you had managed to beat him. He was out of money and his prized hat had ended up in the pot.Â
âWhat can I say? Iâm a natural.â prancing around the train car in his hat, he was only pretending to be mad. To say that he had fallen for you was an understatement. You were smart and witty. He couldnât pull anything over on you and damn did you look fine in his hat. âI know how much you love this hat of yours, so I will make you a deal.â
âThis ought to be good. Lay in on my Darlinâ.â
âTake me out with you tonight. We can enjoy the night and they can all feed.â
âI canât let you do that. It isnât that I think it would be dangerous; I havenât fed and I really need to.â
Priest had taken to searching you over for bite marks, all he would find were healed over from nights that had gone too wild or when the vampires couldnât get out to feed.
A fresh wave of tears fled from your eyes as you remembered all the nights you had spent curled up with Vascar.Â
âWe canât go out there tonight, they know weâre coming for them.â He was agitated and hungry. You crawled on the bed behind him and wrapped your arms around his shoulders. You were about to gamble with your life but there was no one you trusted more with it.
âHow about you dine in tonight?â You kept your voice easy and nonchalant. it was important that it didnât come out rushed or excited, otherwise, he would never agree.
âI canât do that...â he had stiffened in your arms, he loved you enough to be worried for your safety.
âI trust you and you only need a little bit to get you through the night, right? Take it, I am offering willingly.â you kissed his jaw and buried your face in his neck. You knew he would rather die than hurt you. You could feel him chuckle. It was something you would never get tired of.Â
âI know it hasnât come up, but I need you to know that what you are offering, it is a very intimate thing and often is regarded as sexual.â He was uncomfortable having this conversation. He loved you, but he wasnât trying to force you into anything you werenât ready for.
âI know it is, and I am more than willing. I love you. You know that right?â Never had he thought that someone would love him so deeply that they would trust him like this. That life was stolen from him as a Priest and again when he became a vampire.Â
The priest hadnât found any new marks; he wasnât going to either. Vascar had been tied up with Lucy that they hadnât had any personal time. You could hear them arguing about what to do with you. You wanted to die, but Hicks wasnât going to allow that.
Instead, they dragged you to a room with barred windows and locked the door behind you. You were wide awake. This is the time you were usually awake with Vascar. You sat on the bed and stared at the window. For hours, not a sound could be heard. When daybreak cracked the sky, you fell asleep, visions of his hat drifting filled you with a terrible dread. No one bothered you. Night fell again and you returned to staring out the window. It was eery how quiet everything was. Your eyes glazed over from staring. You started to see a figure out your window that looked like Vascar, but that wasnât possible.Â
Again day broke and you curled up to sleep the day away. Your brother came in to see you, but you turned him away. It was partially his fault that Vascar was dead. As night fell, you didnât bother looking out the window. Your mind only wandered to Black Hat saving you. Around midnight, there was a sharp tug on the bars and the sound of the walls crumbling around it. You didnât turn around.Â
The sound of footsteps on the floor behind you echoed in your ears; still, you didnât turn around.
The bed behind you dipped as a figure sat behind you. You didnât need to turn around. You could smell him. He brushed the hair from your face and kissed you gently. For the first time in a few days, fresh tears fell; wiped away by Vascar.
âI was actually contemplating a third option.â He said; grinning into your neck.
âYou could use the company.â Your voice was shaky, but you were happy he was alive.
Morning came and the priests had new questions for you. When they arrived at your room, they found an empty bed and a hole in the wall. On the bed was a note:
Donât come looking for me. I am happy and safe and we wonât bother you.
