Switched Engines
I’ve switched back to Unity for experience in C#, and I have made a small platformer (playable version on my itch.io, https://ratmadness.itch.io/). I am still working on some of the game mechanics and learning how to polish it.
Fruit Ant!
I have the movement set up and an ant placeholder! Next I’ll be making the two fruits that grow on the map, apples and strawberries.
Coming soon...
I have set up source control for Fruit Ant, which is the next project I’ll be working on. Fruit Ant is a top down shooter where you collect fruit to get ammo and health, but the enemy ants can collect the same fruits.
This is going to be a journey for sure, because it’s a lot more complex than the shooting gallery. Plus, I’ll be getting into 3D modelling, music and sound, textures, UI, and polish everything
Shooting Gallery

All Done
I finally finished the shooting gallery game and published it on itch.io, https://ratmadness.itch.io/shooting-gallery (link if anyone wants to play it)
I didn’t do dev logs because I watched a video with the advice of only uploading the exciting features of your game rather than just going through each step. This game isn’t that exciting, but I’m proud of it.
It’s another step towards my goals, and part of the journey that is game development
Project Loss
Well, it’s been a while. I made the switch from Unity to Unreal Engine for the time being and I bought a couple of courses to follow. With those done, I then decided to work on my own project. A simple shooting gallery. Everything was going well, I lamented halfway through because I wasn’t taking the opportunity to do dev logs. I decided to take that as a learning experience and jump into it next time. And then it happened. no source control, no back up, just my beloved game files and a bad crash. I lost a couple of important resources and it hurt pretty bad to see them just...gone. However, I will not stop. I will start anew and properly dive into this project. Happy new years!
Source Control, The Controllening part 2
I really sat there and tried to set up source control when I had no prior experience with it, and then I expected to figure it out all on my own right then and there. Don’t do that. Look up tutorials, ask questions on boards, I know it’s scary to speak up sometimes, but I promise you, just do it.
But yes! Source control is set up, and I’m thinking on making the test room scene next. Maybe even add the player character.
Source Control
It’s terrifying. I’m completely lost on what to do.
I made outfits for my hero in City of Heroes Homecoming. It’s an awesome project, so check it out if you like heroes, villains, and mmorpgs. Feels good to be back...
But yes, Rat Madness (because of course) has all of his outfits now! I’m thinking of adding the travel one that he had when he went with his team to investigate those ruins that led to the maddening.
And that’s where The Caller comes in.

Say hello to Abel! He’s going to be the character that I try hardcore mode on, where if he dies in the brutal world he’s about to enter, he’s gone forever.
Finally
At long last, I have started my design document for the janitor fighting game that I want to work on. I got some of the gameplay written down regarding the weapons and armor being randomly spawned in custodial closets, and I also had a couple of ideas regarding combat that I wrote down as well. You have your standard heavy weapons, light weapons, one handed, two handed, so on, but I thought that it would be cool if the dust monsters you fight could lose a limb if you hit it enough. of course, you can also get hurt and lose the use of your arm or leg, but you can heal. And so can the dust monsters. I think it would make combat a little more dynamic, but I’ll see how it plays out.
