i've been thinking their cover business is a bangboo modification shop, kinda like turbo? and that the mechanic character works on the hollow raider on the side?
i've also been considering the merits of just having the mechanic be a mechanic and having the raider character be a bit like yidhari: both raider and proxy. That sort of setup makes the most sense to for an independent investigator/hollow raider since every proxy that isn't phaethon does need to be in the hollow irl

I don't *really* have a team for him? But my husband suggested I could probably toss him and corin on a team; or shove lycaon on my manato team (but that he'd be worse than pulchra)

I say this, but I'm not saying that Vergil would be a great father. Vergil has truly shown that he does not despise his family entirely, he definitely holds resentment towards his brother but he values his kin just as much as he does Nero.

In DEVIL MAY CRY 3, between the fight between Vergil and Dante, Vergil valued Dante's life over his own. He demonstrated this by not only having playful banter with his brother(showing that he still has fun), but slicing Dante's hand to prevent him from falling with him at the end. Vergil may not be a decent person, but he's definitely selfless to an extent.
In DEVIL MAY CRY 5, Vergil shows just as much, if not more, acknowledgement and care for his family. After Dante revealed to Vergil that Nero was his son, he kind of... always knew another one of his own flesh and blood was out there—
((WELL WELL... THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO.))
—it may not have been upfront in his mind, but it must've always been a lingering thought in his background.
During M20, the fight w/ Vergil as Nero, prefight was Nero's monologing about sibling rivalry and settling differences. When Nero asses that—
((NEITHER ONE OF YOU ARE DYING HERE.))
(smth like that) Vergil, albeit subtle, gives a very impactful nod. This alone indicates that he does acknowledge his family in a way he hadn't before, that he truly does care beneath his abrasive front. He really does acknowledge Dante as his brother, and Nero as his son. This is his family.

In MY opinion—
If Vergil knew about the pregnancy beforehand, he would've stayed. The man went mad in his persuit of power, power-hungry and blind to his own weaknesses. If it were different, if he had stayed with the woman, he would've taken care and raised Nero as his own.
He was young, so he would be confused and doubtful about raising a baby. I believe he would've slowly gotten used to the idea, and grew into his own parenting style, even if the mother wouldn't want to stay. He would want Nero to be just like him, he'd start introducing the boy to weapons near his teen ages, I'm thinking. They would train together, Vergil would even push Nero to train without him until he felt stronger. Until he could break a boulder with his bare hands. It would eventually hurt Nero, surely, but Vergil would call it progress. This would make Nero eager to recover and more confident in his strengths.
Something I also want to add and that does genuinely haunt me every time I play through 5 is that Vergil does not want to fight his son. The entire first chunk of the Nero v. Vergil fight is Vergil trying to... I'll be generous and call it some descalation attempts, LOL
And he doesn't even attack you at first. He legit paces the arena like "Nero noooo. Nero lets not fight. Nero this doesn't involve yooouuu. Nero noooo" It's kinda funny honestly, especially compared to the absolute lack of hesitation he has with Dante*!
*As far as the Dante thing goes, I also think it's important that their fight is framed as... playing in the Visions of V manga. I wish I still had it saved off hand. But Vergil essentially says something about missing playing with his brother, V hugs him close, and then go to the scene of Vergil's awakening.
I think "Vergil somehow escaped is started raising Nero" is one of my favorite AUs because not only is it adorable, not only does it explore interesting sides to all 3 spardas, but it's also deeply funny. Single teen dad Vergil is *so* fucking funny. He is so stressed and doing his best.

tumblr, i'm trying to find a fic. It was on a03, but I cannot seem to locate it. It's been years since I last read it, but I wanted to go back to it! as one is want to do every once in a while, ya know?
It's a shieda kayn/rhaast fic, set in the main universe. The starting chapter is Kayn out on some sort of mission, in the rain, at a farm. He ends up spending the night in a hayloft there if memory serves correctly?
The rest totally devoid of context and in bizarre snippets, so I'm very sorry if it's confusing. I remember bits and pieces from there like that he stays with a vastayan family, runs into zoe, saves one of Bard's little guys from a sketchy merchant. He ends up traveling with Jhin(and there was some light Zed/Jhin if that helps) to his home where Rakan is, trying to get help in locating Xayah. Aaand I BELIEVE Evelyn shows up? Like later? I think there is a point in the story where Rhaast "wins" and takes Kayn's body, and after that is when she shows up.
anyways, if anyone finds this familiar and could point me in the right direct I'd appreciate it!
