quickly now: how did Florida and Hawaii come to be part of the US empire

Hawaii and most of the Southwest though…

The US fought multiple bloody wars of extermination in order to solidify its colonial hold over Florida. I realize this isn’t discussed as much as the Trail of Tears but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Every inch of land the US ever acquired was gotten through violent conquest at some step along the way, whether through the fellow colonial powers it payed for the acquisition, direct conquest, or the later maintenance of that acquisition

yes exactly!! I definitely think it was to do with her cancer scare that she wouldve started to move away from it. it makes me think about how the writing slowly strips her of agency with certain things and in this case also her indulgences bc of this cancer that happened as a result of violating her agency in the abduction. Also her entire taste for that sort of 'health food' from the start, as you mention with the deleted scene, I think has to do w the 90s fatphobia/diet culture, as @pearlofthewoods @mulders-slutty-black-turtleneck and @onehandkilling mentioned

i really like what you said about her always trying to have control and ofc hiding her vulnerability and how that relates to gender and her position yes absolutely
