like they really. they really had in the script that, as a way to mock him, metatron decorated cas’ heaven wall to wall with half naked men with dean’s face pasted on. and they cut it for being too gay. but it was there. written in the original script. cas’ heaven, adorned with half naked deans all over the walls like a teenage boy’s room with swimsuit models. as a way to very specifically make fun of “nancy” castiel. that his heaven, his place of ultimate and eternal contentment for human souls, meant to be moments of his treasured MEMORIES, was decorated wall to wall of sexy half naked male model dean. they DID that and we let them get away with it

love seeing the people in the tags going “they did WHAT.” listen. listen. would I ever lie to you about cw show supernatural. the reason the answer is no is because I don’t need to. I don’t need to because they did shit like this all on their own. people started watching post 15x18 and come back going WOW you guys weren’t kidding and it’s like. yeah. 

also i feel like we should also note that andrew dabb wrote this episode

on the one hand castiel openly admitted his romantic love for a man and is gay for real no take backs and on the other hand dean winchester died a closeted alcoholic at forty.

my ONLY contribution to the eras discourse is that whenever "what's ur favourite era/showrunner" comes up on a quiz i sweat for like 5 minutes and then pick one at random depending on what element of supernatural i've been thinking about most that day

and also that's the FUN of it for me bc supernatural is like at least 5 different shows packed & twisted into one show so i pick and choose what version of supernatural i feel like. but also it's such a complicated question. like s8 is one of my faves and part of that is that i LOVE kevin and charlie but at the same time both of them (PARTICULARLY kevin) were done so dirty so every time they're on the screen i get mad. dabbnatural has family arc & dadstiel but dean gets written crueller and crueller as he goes. s4-5 are some of my favourites but they're in the same era as s1-3 which has NO CAS and also i want eric kripke beat to death with a stick. like. the nature of supernatural is that even if they give you the thing you want or something interesting they almost always give it to you in a way that squanders its potential. and honestly like the eras are useful for marking large-scale transitions between tone but they're all SO internally incoherent. every favourite season has UNWATCHABLE episodes. like it's such a vast sprawling jumbled thing and honestly has been from the beginning and also supernatural wouldn't be supernatural if it wasn't an intimate family horror drama and a single-camera sitcom all at once across time & space
