minewt boarding school au where theyāre both rich boys who wear those uniforms with sweater vests and ties and they have beds right next to each other every year and yeah they say the sharing beds thing only happened once
(the second week after the first day of school when theyāre maybe seven or eight and they canāt sleep because they miss their parents and so they play go fish in minhoās bed until they both fall asleep with the cards still out) but scandals happen and the internet suddenly becomes a warzone and minho has always been of the firm opinion that a game of midnight go fish solves everything
and maybe by the time theyāre in tenth theyāre a little too close for friends, and of course everyone can see it but them.
(thomas calls them out on it, cause thomas is obtuse like that.
newt and minho are sitting on a sofa, minho sitting up and reading aloud from his history book, while newtās stretched out with his head on minhoās lap, listening.
you guys are gay, thomas says. like really gay.
minho barely pauses before he verbally slams thomas to the ground.
shut up, thomas. everyone knows youāre the one that wrote gallyās name with hearts all over in the second floor bathroom.
fuck you. thomas is blushing red, but minho and newt canāt breathe, theyāre laughing so hard.
newt lifts his hand for a fist bump, his knuckles barely brushing up against minhoās. but when minho starts reading again, their fingers are still touching.)
and sure, newt pours a cup of tea for himself in the morning, but minho prefers his morning sugar with milk and coffee, and newt endlessly curses minhoās uncultured palate but still brings two cups upstairs every morning.
and maybe minho thinks newt looks rather adorable in the school uniform, but newt cannot for the life of him tie a tie, and itās habit after eight years, tying his tie then newtās.
(thereās been more than one instance of them waking up tangled and comfortable on the floor or the sofa or one of their beds. but itās natural and easy and not gay at all, really.
really.
looking at you, thomas.)
itās just what friends do.
(thatās what they say when they get married, too.)
