Manifesto Draft
Nature has always inspired me creatively as a designer, as a person that is a follower in many sports, and as an individual. The way that we have immersed our-self with nature has is incredible. As Janine Benyus puts it âNature have been the first ones to solve our problemsâ (Benyus J. M., Biomimicry in action, 2009). We should design from nature as they offer us so many opportunities for new ways to create, and/ or change products and technology systems, and that is how nature has inspired me as a designer and design thinker.
 As an individual that is a great follower in sports, nature has inspired me through the products and expressions of techniques through various sports. An example of being inspired by nature through products are the racing togs that got banned after the 2008 Olympic games, because they were mimicked by sharks skin and how a shark moves through the water. Sharks are a form of biomimicry based on its form, where a particular mechanical shape, evolved by nature, results in improved performance when applied to engineered devices or tools. (Harman, 2013). This product made the swimmer feel like they were gliding through the water not making any effort. Â
 The question we should be asking when designing from nature is What if every inventor, at the moment of creation could ask âHow does nature solve this?â (Benyus J. M., Biomimicry in action, 2009). This emphasizes the point that nature plays a huge part in design. How we humans look at nature, at the qualities they express for us to mimic and implement into our own design products, and systems.
 Nature is magnificent in all its beauty that it comes in. The way it portrays itself to us is breath taking. From its tactility in texture, to its form and how it moves around from point A to point B. How you are able to use nature as a precedent and mimic what they have done, or even reverse something that is being un-environmentally friendly to becoming environmentally friendly, and lowering pollution rates. An example of this is the Calera is a cement manufacturing company that have taken the growth form of the coral reef and using that recipe to create building block cement out of CO2. Cement usually emits a ton of CO2 for every ton of cement, itâs reversing the equation and actually sequestering half a ton of CO2 thanks to the recipe from the coral (Benyus J. M., Biomimicry in action, 2009).  A form that is uniquely created in the deep ocean can be mimicked, and made in the hands of man to be environmentally sustainable with a chemical that is polluting the environment.
 I want the future for design to be looking at nature, to see the obstacles that nature has achieved and implement it in with the vast updating technology that is changing the way that we live.
This is biomimicry coming alive within us as a part of our lives. It is forever changing, changing our lives the way we interact, the way we look back at what nature has accomplished and put it into systems that we humans can use.

Critical Writing summary A convincing argument regarding the impact of nature and sustainability on design The impact that nature more specifically biomimicry is having a huge impact on design, and how we use it. For example the Speedo LZR racer suit that got band after the 2008 Beijing Olympics is a form of biomimicry design as it is taking the form of a sharkskin and mimicking it to suit the human body for competitive swimming. Using the qualities a shark has, putting that in a human form and combining it with the latest technology to design a suit that would drastically change swimming technology and the swimming community forever. Soon we will be fearing of more biomimetic innovation is nearing the corner (Harman. J, 2013). Another example that nature is having an impact on how we design now is how architecture is looking at making future buildings more organic formed such as the Hydro-net SF 2108 this is creating buildings for cities that have high densities that is located in a interspersed around extensive aquaculture zone (Myers, W. 2012). Caltech aeronautic and bio-engineering professor Dr. John Dabiri already taught us how schools of fish could inform and improve the design of wind farms.
Dabiri is also studying another sea creature for clues on improving real world energy efficienciesâjellyfish.Â
âTheyâre so simple to begin with, but these are the first animals to figure out how to swim in the ocean,â he says. âTheyâre about 500 million years old, and theyâre very efficient in how they use energy. We as engineers are interested in stealing those ideas and using them for different technologies that would allow us to use less fuelâfor example, in underwater vehicles.â
The key to jellyfish efficiency is their vortex ringâânot unlike the smoke ring you can make with a cigar,â Dabiri explains. It makes them able to move through the water more effectively than jet propulsion systems used by underwater vehicles.
âThe U.S. Navy has been particularly interested in this technology for developing underwater vehicles that use less energy,â Dabiri says. âThis helps them reduce the cost of the various missions they support, but it also enables new missions that they canât do currently.âÂ

The ideas from the photo's I want to portray from the view of the Flaneur that is wondering through the streets of Wellington City, is that the streets are all structured. Everything is structured. From the architecture of buildings, to the composition of the promotional advertisement posters and cultural art hidden along the alley ways away from the street roads. All of these make up what a city is. This is a reflection of being a Flaneur.
In 2008, Lucas states;
Siting the investigation in the city reflects my own interests which are rooted in my architectural training. It also serves as the context for my own creative practice (pp176).
 The ideas that come out of this quote is that the Flaneur is someone that studies the city, the streets, the alleyways, and everything in between. The images taken reflect structure and culture of the city. How structure has taken formed order into the city. Everything is in order with the structure of the buildings, and the composition of posters and cultural art hidden along the alleyways also exhibit structured.
 When you compare the structure of buildings to the structure in an alleyway shown in the slides that there is more creativity in the alleyway, more freedom and liberty to showcase our culture and emotions of humans that live in the city. Whereas the buildings showcase the side of order in a way of expressing the busy corporate working place, a place of constant structural boundaries.

Second Review Hand-in
After much thought I have decided to base my images on the idea that we live in an ordered city. A city where everything is symmetrical, that if something is not in that âsymmetricalâ order it shouldnât be shown. For example the roads, streets, and buildings are in symmetrical alignment, and monochrome. But where do you see the color amongst it all?You only see them in the dodgy alleyways, hidden away from plain sight. With the images that I will produce I want to show the contrast between order and being free, I will do this by overlaying them onto each other. As a designer and an individual I feel we should be free to be who we want to be, and be constrained or conformed by the conditions of the city. The soundtrack that will be accompanied with the slides is âMillion Voicesâ by Otto Knows. This emphasis the idea that we live in a city where it is conformed by order, there are âMillion Voicesâ that cloud your head and judgment, butt you are in control of your own life and how you live it.

Literary Review
The idea I think of a flaneur is that they are a people watcher that form different mindset perspectives of the world environment around them. Looking at a variety of perspectives and contextual environments around them. You can have a playful context mind-set or an ordinary mind-set, (Stenros, J. Montola, M. Mayra, F. 2007). I want to show the vast variety of perspectives around the city. From the different people groups that walk round, to the environment and how we are sustaining it. The different people groups that walk the same route but have a different mind-set on how they take it.
