Deepening Conceptual Frameworks for Project 4
Part 1: Revisit Your Core Question
For my project, I want to focus on a feeling of disconnect from cultural heritage from a less literal perspective. I want my main idea to be the feeling of this disconnect in childhood and how, even though the feeling of heritage and connection is gone, the heritage still remains. I am examining this idea through a video and audio format with home videos, and I want to experiment the most with layering my acquired materials in a way that helps my main idea.
Part 2: Context and References
For my topic and conceptual direction, I found both poetry and a curated art show based on the concepts and experiences of "No Sabo" kids. For the poetry, I found a specific poem titled No Sabo that touches on the main ideas I related to and wanted to convey through my project.
Read, review and discuss the No Sabo poem by Tiffany R. Anderson on Poetry.com
The main thing in this poem that connects to my project is that, despite a lack of cultural connection, one still remains through heritage and blood. Through my use of visuals and audio, I want to convey a feeling of innocence and nostalgia through the lack of connection I felt as a child.
For my second example, I found a curated art exhibit focusing on the experience of growing up No Sabo as it showcases multiple artists' depictions of how it shaped them.
This exhibit was really inspiring and really stuck with me. It helped me focus a bit more on how I wanted the viewer to feel when watching my project.
Part 3: How the Medium Shapes the Idea
My media is the preferred format for my project and materials, as I'm using home videos. The nostalgia and feeling of home videos are best preserved by not changing their format, and I believe it amplifies the feeling I want to convey to the viewer. Because my materials are already in a video and audio format, I believe there is no contradiction, and it in fact works better this way.
Part 4: Clarifying Intent
This project is my way of further investigating how to use Premiere and get optimal effects, and how I can use this to convey emotions and feelings. I hope to create an experience of emotion and nostalgia for the viewer in digital space. I want the viewer to be left with a question of the connection between culture and heritage/blood ties.
