what a cute little guy right here. i played for a couple hours and got to like... stage 3-1 i think? idk how far that is. but i'm enjoying the game a lot.

now, i actually do believe i've played the wii version of this game when i was much younger-- idk how much i did in it, don't remember it that well. or, really, at all. this definitely has a different vibe though, idk.

it's kind of a 2d platformer but it plays with 3d depth and turns in the stage and whatnot, which is really cool outside of some depth perception issues. a bit on the easy/forgiving side so far considering i'm awful at 2d platformers-- i've only full game-overed once thus far, though i've come close several times so i won't be surprised if i hit a real roadblock later on.

the platforming movement is made really interesting with the enemy grab+throw mechanic, and the little guy's kind of... flutter jump thing. it feels good to figure out how to get to places like it's a puzzle game almost. as someone who doesnt really like 2d platformers much (usually) that's pretty neat.

also the graphics are SUPER cute. wasn't sure how to feel about the 3d-looking 2d sprites on a 3d background but it works really nicely here. i like the music so far too, i think uhhh some music near the start and the stage 2 boss (if that's how i'd say it) theme rly stood out in particular

was going to do the pc version. but no controller support and it being stuck in fullscreen made me decide that ps1 emulation would be more straightforward.

played it for a few hours, don't feel like i made a ton of progress because it's really fucking hard

but it's pretty cool. the mechanics are interesting and i like the puzzle aspect. what i dont like is the checkpoint inconsistency... sometimes a guy would die and it would just save over that randomly, and sometimes i would get an annoying thing done and save a bunch of guys, and then i try to figure out where to go next, die, and all the stuff i did gets reset.

...its still more forgiving than i'd expect for a 90s game, but i don't have crazy patience like that. so i decided not to bother trying too hard to save all the little guys. the controls are also all over the place and easy to mix up. bit clunky.

finished chapter 3 of tales of xillia. i think there's four chapters, so i think i'm almost at the end...? which is confusing because i feel like i haven't even gotten the chance to touch most of the side content i'd been meaning to check in on since chapter 3 started, but, i'unno.

honestly i really don't know how to feel lol

like the game is okay and again i do like the characters, but that's... like, it?

gameplay's Okay, the story's Okay, the exploration and going through field encounters is actually mind-numbingly boring to be honest, side content is... nothing worth mentioning so far.

even though i like the characters, i think the writing in the story doesn't match up with the potential that these characters have. i'm not really into jude's character just going down the route of milla basically seeming to be his whole world, his entire purpose for living, or whatever.

whooooaaa i just realized i have two whole rows of 5* weapons... that's crazy...

kind of fucked up that nearly half of my 5* weapons are skyward weapons though

decided to try it. realized its a gacha pvp pokemon game. having a battling-focused game makes sense but that's certainly a choice. sure, whatever, i like gacha.

but. holy SHIT.

the game is horrifically ugly. and this is all i could think of for the couple hours i spent trying it out. here's some highlights.

oh my god the trainer. i did my best but she's so fucking ugly. the starting clothes are AWFUL, i hate skintight stuff like this so obviously i replaced it with baggy clothes but the options are kind of... mediocre at best. im glad at least i COULD cover her up in something... passable?

outside of the shit aesthetic choices, the game just looks bad all over... i know its probably meant for the switch 2 but god, this looks so much worse than scavio and swsh, what the hell happened here? and sure it's a phone game but masters looks fine too! seriously...

uhhhh. the tutorials sucked too. like ik youre probably expected to know pokemon battling already. but the tutorials are rly rly rly ass. just press a and it automatically moves the cursor where you need it to be so you literally arent going to take in a single bit of what the tutorial tells you.

the gameplay is... i mean its fine. you sure can battle pokemon in this game. idk if it was just the tutorial battles but... there's no dynamic camera angles like you'd get in a regular pokemon game. it's all just... very static. bare bones as all hell.
