a little bit of honesty

from the outside studyblr’s look perfect, but let me tell you something – we are not. personally, out of most of the things in my life, school stresses me out the most. i’ve lost hours of sleep worrying about assignments, tests and presentations. i forget to eat at lunch time because i’m busy reviewing. once i get home i immediately do my homework (powered by caffeine of course) and then fall asleep before i’ve even had dinner. heck, half the time i can’t even be bothered to rewrite my notes aesthetically because i’m so exhausted. what you see on my blog – pretty notes, bujo spreads and self-care tips – isn’t really who i am, rather what i’m trying to be. i’m trying to eat healthy and take care of myself. i’m trying to take the time to rewrite all my notes with care. i’m trying to ace every exam i take. i also think it’s important to remember that however hard we try to be like this, we will always have set backs. we’ll always mess up on a test now and then. we’ll always forget to nourish our bodies and opt for chocolate and coffee instead now and then. and you know what? that’s okay. we’re trying and that’s all we can ask of ourselves.

life is stressful enough as it is, and sometimes we just need to have a good cry, bake a pie, pick ourselves up and carry on. i’ve got this. you’ve got this. everything will be alright.

This is so perfectly true! Let me add something: I have always had issues procrastinating, I always hit the alarm snooze button, I always make great study plans I never accomplish because I am feeling lazy and start binge watching series instead (honestly? I watched ALL four seasons of SKAM in three days), my notes from class are so messy if I try and understand them more than 24 hours after I took them good luck to me… I am total disaster. Studyblring has helped me fight against this: by thinking “I have to post some ute aesthetic notes today” I force myself to tidy those notes so I’ll be able to use them later, by seeing all those nice BuJos out there I feel like it could be a great idea to be more organised, by writing masterposts on “tips for back to school” or “cheap stationery” I get my ideas clear and I am able to put those tips in practise: things I wouldn’t even try if I hadn’t posted that masterpost because I wouldn’t have even thought what cheap stationery to buy, or how I could make the back to school time better.

So yeah I totally get what you mean. Studyblrs may seem like superficial or a waste of time to many people: just aesthetic notes are not going to get you a degree. But forcing you to rewrite those notes maybe is. So it’s wicked, but it works. It works for me, it works for you, and it works for many people. We are trying to be better, prettier, more intelligent, and we project ourselves on those aesthetic posts and masterposts, and that’s perfectly OK. As long as it helps you.
