people are way too caught up in apologism discourse to the point where certain characters will write you off as this or that no matter your opinions on the situation

i don’t think anyone needs a redemption arc because this story isn’t about redemption. dream smp as it is is just a story about people living their lives, and we are watching it happen. how they interact with eachother, what they do; it’s all about relationships rather than good and bad. c!dream won’t get a redemption arc because he’s just gone through something that will make him even angrier, and that’s okay. it’s how he interacts with people. c!wilbur won’t get (and doesn’t need) a redemption arc because that’s not how he interacts with people. what would this story be if characters were strictly good and bad, black and white, all of the time? this is the flaw with villain arcs and redemption arcs about stories that are based off of how people interact with eachother.

this is also why there’s so much apologism discourse. if there has to be discourse about who is a villain and who’s not, the chances are is that there isn’t a real villain there. there’s so much analysis out there going through every detail of every character’s personality and almost everyone has their own perspective. redemption arcs just don’t make sense in this case. sure, it would be cool to see certain characters get closure, but that’s not interesting. this can be both a sad and happy story of friendships and rivals and different articles of conflict without having villain arcs and redemption arcs.

ive been thinking about las nevadas a lot lately, and how it represents quackity’s mental health in itself. let me explain:

las nevadas is isolated, and desolate. there are people living there, but they wouldn’t be if quackity hadn’t convinced them/manipulated them into it. it’s on a mountain, a snowy mountain, on top of sand that seems to be spreading. it’s artificial to the brim, and doesn’t have a homey feel to it. you can tell it was made for gambling, and all of it just feels... off. it’s almost chaotic and in disarray.

this is similar to how quackity’s mental state is at the moment. he’s still recovering from the loss of l’manberg, and manburg, as well as the betrayal of his ex-fiancé’s leaving him behind. las nevadas was supposed to be a place for all of them, and it’s heavily implied by the marriage gazebo in the nation that quackity was planning on proposing. yet, he still hasn’t torn it down. he’s inflicting purposeful harm onto someone just for the fun of it, and forcing others into a spot that’s more than unfortunate, such as blowing up purpled’s ufo. he’s in a state of chaos and disarray, more than ever. las nevadas is a reflection of this. quackity is alone, and the people he’s surrounded himself with are just people to populate the nation. he’s not exactly close with them, and they’re all people he’s never truly been close with. sam seems ajar in the context of las nevadas, as does everyone else.
