These timelines, based on the Timeglider.com software system,  have been taken from my ever-expanding database of slang, which was also the source of Green’s Dictionary of Slang, published in 2010. Slang covers many areas, but there are certain major themes which have dominated the vocabulary for over 500 years. To sum them up as sex, drugs and, in its widest sense, rock ‘n’ roll wouldn’t be so far from the truth. Plus crime, drunkenness, insults, racism and a number of other of our less savoury but quite inescapable activities. What you will find here are the first examples of what I intend to be a look at all of them. Prepare to be amused, informed, even shocked. Subversive, cynical, witty and sometimes cruel, whether we like it or not, slang is humanity at its most human.

in 2020, the constitutional tribunal of poland (similar to the supreme court) ruled that abortion in the case of fetal abnormalities is unconstitutional, effectively banning 98% of legal abortions in our country. poland already had the strictest laws in europe (save for malta), where abortion was only allowed in the case of rape/incest, fetal abnormalities or risk to mother’s life. this caused probably the biggest protests since 1989. even tiny, conservative towns marched in defense of abortion rights. at one point there was an estimated one hundred thousand people in warsaw protesting against it. police was beating up people on the streets, they broke a teenage girls’ hand. fascist nationalists used tear gas on people. this lasted for WEEKS.

back then it felt like maybe we are finally witnessing some change we hoped for for years, but it all fell apart. the leaders of this protest were generic liberals who were allied with the neoliberal center-right opposition and were riding off the wave of anti-government sentiments. more and more it was becoming less and less about reproductive health and more about how we need to put the opposition back in power. mind you, the opposition and its supporters were largely for keeping this bogus “compromise” and went as far as silence anyone who wanted full liberalization as “too radical”. anything stronger than peaceful marches was discouraged as well - even the very famous chant “wypierdalać” (”fuck off”) was often considered too far.

more and more of those protests stopped being about reproductive health and became a tool of the opposition and while it was good to scream about how much you hate the ruling party, but it was conveniently used as a tool of the neoliberal center-right opposition. several months later they put that ban into place. the wave was already dying. there were some protests but all people did was yell in the streets for a bit and go home, because it was ~wrong~ to destroy property and say naughty words. several months later a 30 year old woman died because she was denied abortion. doctors would not risk aborting her deformed fetus even if it was risking her life, even if it was technically legal - they were scared of going to jail on the basis of aborting a fetus with abnormalities. there were very little protests after that, even though we should have burned down the entire country for her. death of savita halappanavar, a very similar case, eventually caused the change of abortion law in ireland. poland nothing happened after izabela died. on the anniversary of the protests, barely anyone attended. just yesterday a project of putting a 12 week abortion law in place was rejected.

It’s that time of year again, everyone! With the new year right around the corner, I’ve prepped a brand new list of prompts for TGGTVAV Week 2022! Gentleweek was such a success this past year. I’m so glad that everyone enjoyed it and I had a lot of fun too! I know it’s a bit early to be thinking about, but I know some people struggled to create things in time last year, so y’all have a little bit more time this year. Without further ado, I give you this year’s prompt list!

For those of you who are new here, here’s a quick rundown of how TGGTVAV week is going to work: TGGTVAV week is taking place July 3-July 9 this year. Here we have our list of prompts for the week. Each day has three prompts. There’s a one word prompt, an au prompt, and what I called a canon prompt, so you have some variety to work with! Of course, you don’t have to use all three! You can use one for each day, or combine them if you’d like! (ex. combining tattoo and side character or green and neighbors au) You can interpret these prompts however you want.

As a reminder, there are no obligations! You don’t have to do every day. You can do a few, or just one. I just think this will be a good way for the fandom to come together and make some content! There aren’t really rules to what you can make. Art and fanfic are most common, but it can be anything; moodboards, playlists, headcanons, go wild! Post your creations (or links to creations like fanfic and playlists) for each day here on tumblr! Tag the blog @tggtvav-week​ and use the tag #tggtvavweek2022. I’ll be reblogging all content on here! Fanfics can also be posted to the collection on ao3.
