Randolph School

It’s early August in Alabama and we’re heading back to school. While Randolph’s faculty/staff inservice involves a certain amount of procedural need-to-know/must-know content, there is also a high degree of inspiration. Like on Thursday Neri Oxman is coming. How cool is that?

A new school year is a block of unchiseled potential. I especially enjoyed this video, shown by our Head of School to our new faculty and staff. With an average number of 12 years of experience, they are by no means beginners, though their years of experience range widely, but the joy of a new year is that we are all beginning something together. And teaching here is creative work.

Neri Oxman is coming to speak at Randolph on August 6, 2015.

11 seniors, each with their own particular take on modernism, presented original works along with thoughts about the impact of period.

Seth wrestled with capitalism and communism, studied all the forms of theater that evolved during the Modern Era, and wrote a play (above) that depicted that struggle in the manner of all of those theatrical forms. 

Garrett’s presentation on Surrealism and Freud involved tealights and the exquisite corpse. We tapped into our collective subconscious and created poetry.

Mrs. Cox’s 3rd grade class took a field trip to Belle Chèvre Artisan Creamery in Elkmont, Ala., to learn about making cheese from goats’ milk. They were also challenged to think of creative chèvre recipes.
