I mean I understand the ending, and I understand that was the only possible ending because it makes sense, it's explained well, and most of all it's not a choice Joan makes flippantly. I appreciated her idea of simply moving without choosing either men but I knew they wouldn't stick with it so by the time she left with Luke I was like "ah there it is, I'm gonna suffer.” And boy did I!!

It's a happy ending, a bittersweet one if we wanna be honest – for Joan and Larry, that is. For Luke it's a psychological horror through and through.

Because he's all alone. For all eternity. I understand the eternity worlds are not "made" for couples but he's already been alone, for fucking 67 years he was alone, working, waiting, and for what? For two weeks of fake bliss where he had to endure Joan's palpable unhappiness and her going to see her life with Larry over and over again. Knowing he wasn't enough, that there was nothing he could've done to be enough because it's not his fault, it's not Joan's either (I wanna make sure it's clear I'm not blaming her), it's just how it is.

But he waited. He waited 67 years and maybe he doesn't even like mountains so much, maybe he would've chosen another eternity world if it was for him but he waited and he went with Joan and she couldn't do anything else but break his heart.

And then he helped her escape, knowing at best she was going back to the man who already replaced him once and at worst she was gonna be thrown into the void.

He waited 67 years, had a couple weeks with a broken part of her, and now he has to be alone for all eternity.
