I saw this hotel next to my gym. The name of it is hotel nine seven however the funny thing is that its written in arabic but has the english pronunciation! It should have been fondouk tes3a seb3a for it to have the proper arabic translation

My friend sent me this(they re helping me complete my tumblr). Its another example of mistranslation due to the multi-meaning arabic words. Hamam means pigeon and bathroom clearly this is a poultry shop and thus it would make no sense for it to have a bathroom. Plus whats a baladi bathroom or french bathroom? Beid baladi which means eggs from this country was translated to my eggs. Dick and baladi werent even translated so how would they expect people to understand this!!
I came across this on the Lebanese memes sites. Its another example or the dangers of direct translation. Khali al dasam is suppose to mean fat free but because khali was translated according to its second meaning ,uncle, instead of its first meaning empty, this caused the mistranslation
A friend of mine sent me this, at first i didnt understand what it was about it that was funny but when i noticed the doughnut under donald it hit me. So the owner of this restaurant thought that doughnut was pronounced donald and wrote that above the picture or a doughnut.
I just love this video it makes me laugh so hard but at the same time i feel bad for this guy! He calls trying to order Mc Donalds and he says tht he wants a chicken mc chicken because he thinks that mc chicken means burger and that it can be either meet or chicken. Then he says i want the pepsi to be 7up because he means that he wants the drink to be 7up and thinks thats wht pepsi refers to

Saw this place in dora, i really liked how you used the artist Lady Gaga's and turned it into something funny lady dagaga. Dagaga meaning chicken in Arabic and the restaurant being mainly a chicken place!
Saw this sukleen truck on the highway and found the way kleen is written interesting. In Lebanon Sukleen is a garbage disposal company whos founder is from the Sukar family thus the name. Sukar clean= Sukleen. What i found most interesting is that the company chose to stick to their kleen while writing it on the back to promote cleanliness
From the moment one enters Lebanon to the moment one leaves it he sees the trilingualism.
So apparently in England crisps mean what we know as chips and chips mean fries. It was quite confusing at first but i finally understood it. They also have loo instead of toilet and cheers means thanks as well.
I noticed this place next to my house, i pass by it everyday and have done so for 6 years but never noticed the language in contact! Snack one of our favourite words in class, here is used in its French context meaning small restaurant. And atyab next to it written in arabic means tastiest in lebanese but in arabic it mean kindest or nicest! So what i noticed is that neither an English speaking person nor an Arabic speaking person nor even one that speaks both can properly understand this stores sign. Only a Lebanese can do so

My friend sent me this after i told him to help me find language in contact stuff! The pronunciation of Brad Pitt can mean the house fridge,if bastardised, in arabic.
My friend saw this on facebook and sent to me. Honestly theres nothing to comment on this picture, in this case a picture is truly worth a thousand words. It has elements of languages in contact misspelling and much more!
I was given this in front of aub! And at first i didnt get why they mixed arabese and arabic in the advertisement! But then a friend of mine which was walking with me asked me whats written in arabic! He speaks arabic but cant read it however he can read and understand arabese. So maybe given the restaurants targeted audience thats the reason behind the mixing of arabic and arabese in the add
I saw this van on my way to uni today. What i found interesting was first of all that i had never heard this quote before. Second why was the quote in arabic but the numbers in English, why not all in arabic? Finally he translated chauffeur to arabic directly not replacing it with its proper arabic word
Found this on the web and what i liked about was how different codes develop throughout the world! Two identical hand moves mean a completely different thing depending on their context!

I found this on 9gag and although its a really racist Western stereotype i couldnt help but laugh because when u hear some Chinese speaking English this is actually an accurate description of how they do so
My friend sent me this pic of a vodka bottle he found. What i think is interesting here other than Syrian made vodka, is that although its written clearly in Arabic that the vodka is Syrian made, its even written in Arabic using english letters but then vodka is written in Russian! Whats the point of that? Is it some attempt to gain legitimacy or indicate that the vodka is something it clearly says it isnt?!
