This is a more hypothetical idea of like, mb it can be legitimately painful to activate your jinki for the first time. So this is Mamoa as she is experiencing other people’s memories for the first time. Especially painful if it takes a mental toll or creates a whole new physical capability in your brain. I always got that impression from the spikes on Asyl.
