"Yeah but I don’t want to take too long. We won’t be able to see anything when it gets dark." He picks up the large bag and begins to walk. "They won’t even notice a few potatoes missing. Just stay low and don’t make too much noise."
"Still, wouldn't it be more logical to ask them for the potatoes? If we exchange labor for goods we'd have a better relationship and a steady food supply. Granted they don't fuck up."
Now that Kid was more or less calm, a whole other aura fell upon his person; one that appeared much more mature and serious. While he certainly had his issues, Kid was definitely not to be underestimated in usefulness, especially not when he was determined to pull through. And while he currently had no distractions such as whether or not he remembered to fold the toilet paper or whether or not the pictures in his house might have been off by a millimeter, there was nothing to hinder his determination.
"We have food and shelter," he agreed briefly and to the point. "As long as these basic necessities are fulfilled, the rest is only a matter of time and hard work. I could probably go for a few weeks without, but it would be a problem for ordinary people to not have nutrition on a daily basis. First we will need to ascertain a stable income. If we don’t take care of that much, nobody will have the energy for further advancement, and that would defeat the point." Surprisingly enough the boy had given this a lot of thought despite how he seemed to previously not have a single care in the world other than the order in which he had arrived. Maybe it was because this girl, Ayame, had called him by his father’s name, the title he had now taken over.
"My father built an entire city in the deserts of Nevada; turning these ruins habitable will be nothing in comparison." If he couldn’t at least do that much then he really would be a disgrace as a shinigami. "As for ascertaining whether it’s truly impossible to escape, I believe there is no point in doing so at this moment. Even checking from above and travelling as far away from the coast as possible has proven futile, so at this point in time it will be more important to figure out how to adapt to the situation. We need food! We need timber! We need organisation and order!"
Casting her gaze from the 8 on the ground to the remnants on the town they were now forced to live in, Ayame couldn't help heave a sigh. The work they would need to do would far surpass the home remedies she had googled prior to this mess and even then she had hired people to fix the major catastrophes. These houses hardly had roofs and some stood as a testament to miracles as their crooked wooden spines still stood. Here was a nightmare even for any regular 'Do It Yourself' crazed fan.
Turning her attention back towards the now calm boy, she nodded. And then she heard. There were a few things iffy about his statement. Yes, they needed food. Yes, they needed water. Yes...he could go a few weeks without? Perhaps, he was still a bit crazy. Ayame narrowed her eyes and stared at him in confusion. No ordinary human could go more than a few days without food and water.
"Are you quite sure you're alright? Forgive me the assumption but you look like any ordinary human to me, albeit one who's a bit more obsessed with 8's than others, so it wouldn't be alright for you to go more than a few days without food or anything....and checking from above? You can fly?" Disbelief was clear on her features. Surely, he hadn't drawn enough 8's or perhaps that was the cause for his descent into madness.
OOC: Sorry I haven't been on. Finals are this week so I'll reply after.
"It’s getting late. Let’s go already."
"Impatience can get you killed...although I doubt there's much danger with what we're about to do."

The girl couldn’t possibly have known how much such a simple thing seemed like complete salvation to the distressed boy. Accepting the stick, his grab hesitant at first but soon much firmer, Kid soon stopped shaking and his nerves calmed down. “Can it really be so simple…?” he queried uncertainly; bringing the wood to the ground below a gasp left him as it broke the surface and started moving shakily with his control. Steady, steady… Ah! There it was! A perfect 8 had formed on the ground! If eyes could sparkle, Death the Kid was currently having starlight in each of his golden orbs.
"This… this is…" He couldn’t even finish the sentence. Amazing? Astonishing? A miracle? Whatever power this girl had used he had somehow managed to draw two flawless circles on the ground despite how hard it was to get them just right. But with this girl’s help he had succeeded! This alone was enough to give him strength and motivation to keep going. "Miss, you must tell me your name! I am Death the Kid, and you have no reason to worry, because now that I am here I will take it upon myself to turn this city into an absolutely perfect one."
"Not always." Ayame replied. "But if you don't try something for yourself then the situation is entirely up to circumstance. You need to find your own solutions. Think." She lectured as he started making his numbers. Watching him, Ayame sighed. The whole interaction made her feel like a babysitter but she wasn't getting paid for this. Perhaps, if anything, this would be how teaching would feel like. Helping the helpless learn how to use their brains.
At his exclamation and sudden shower of adoration, she quirked a brow. Ayame had merely handed him a stick. She wasn't sure how that merited such a response. "Ayame Tsukino. With all this, I'd still say being worried would be appropriate although I am curious as to what you'd do to make this town perfect...Death?" The name was unusual and she wasn't sure what part of it to say or if she was meant to say it whole. If anything, it felt like a Username on some online game. "But even so, there's a lot for us to do." Perhaps, she could steer this conversation to them actually doing some task of use. "We'll need food and perhaps some modifications to our shelters...tools too. We need to do a lot."
There had been a time that Kid was definitely going to claim that his intense sense of orderliness was only natural albeit maybe a bit more serious than most other, but even he had come to realise that was not the case at all. ‘Not the sanest of people’ might be a very good way to put it, but with the madness of order making up his entire being to the extreme he had to embrace it in its entirety, even if it meant seeing every single flaw in the world wherever he went.
"… I don’t want to…" he eventually kept complaining, deciding not to voice his thoughts on the question of sanity considering it was such a huge part of him that he didn’t even single it out. "If I mess around with the sand or the dirt I’ll just get it under my nails and that’s disgusting." The mere thought if it was enough to give him shivers. How could this girl even suggest something like that?! "And what if I broke a nail?" No, the consequences were far to severe.
Not only was he crazier than most but the 8 obsessed boy was a complainer. Ayame had no problems with his complaint about nails and she could understand that hygiene was important but all he seemed to do was whine. How annoying. She had gotten stuck on an island with an unreliable lunatic.
"All you seem to be good at is complaining but have you put any thought in how you could even fix one of your problems or do you need me to hold your hand through this whole thinking process?" Ayame looked away and frowned. Stepping away from him, she bent down and picked up a small stick. It seemed sturdy enough for the task ahead. "Use this. Make some 8's. And try to compose yourself. We can't afford to waste any time in our situation. If you have any skills we can use, we'll need you sane enough to use them."
While aware of the presence of other people in this place, Kid had not expected one of them to be within his immediate vicinity - maybe if he had noticed, the first impression he had been giving them wasn’t going to be a full out show of his OCD but instead a much cooler one befit of a shinigami… then again that was not likely to be the case. Once distracted, Kid found it almost impossible to draw himself back into the world around him and he certainly didn’t have focus to spare on preserving his own self image. No, there were far more important matters at hand than something as small as that right now.
"You don’t understand it! In this place so full of asymmetry I’m stuck without a way of escape, so the least I could do is strive to achieve symmetry through my own being. But hard as I try I cannot even do that much! Number three? That means nothing! It completely fades away in the beauty of perfect symmetry that is number eight! Like this I’m nothing but garbage who can’t even uphold balance. I don’t deserve to be here. This whole island is denying my very existence!"
Engaging with a raving stranger was not the wisest of choices. Ayame took a measured step back as he burst into another rant. Already, she viewed him as someone to talk to only in the direst of circumstance. Then again, she would most likely avoid talking to any of the people here if she could. Out of those she had met, they all seemed unreliable and bothersome.
Taking a deep breath, Ayame tried to think of a gentler way to organize her thoughts but time had not made her any less blunt. "You're not the sanest of people, are you?" Laying her sight on him again, she rested one hand on her hip and brought the other to her forehead in thought. "There's no escaping and I doubt you'd be able to return if you did. But if you love the number 8 so much why don't you make some. There's sand and dirt. Go calm down, you're of no help to the situation as you are now."
Number three, huh? Being the third to arrive to this city wasn’t all too bad, three could be properly symmetrical under the right circumstances, and it certainly wasn’t as bad as if he’d been number four to arrive. But thinking about it alternatively it could also have been way better. Why hadn’t he been number eight? The perfect number eight, flawless and beautiful… Damn it, damn everything, why hadn’t he been number eight?! If he couldn’t even do this much then he truly was a failure as a person!
"At this rate there’s only one way left…"
"I must leave this town and not return again until I’ll be number eight!!"
Ayame had been the first to arrive but the number meant little to her. Although selfish and a bit twisted, she was simply glad that she had not been the first and last. The others had to know valuable information and survival skills which her history of horror survival games had yet to teach her. When meeting the others, however, one thing became quite clear. There were a lot of questionable characters on the island with her. Hearing some lunatic yelling about what number they were, Ayame couldn't help but question his sanity. She didn't want to but she figured that the only way to guarantee her safety would be to know whether or not the others could be trusted...and that meant talking to number three.
"...If you could leave this town then why on earth would you come back anyway?"
The Definition of Friendship. politicalhitman
Bright. The island was surprisingly bright despite it nearing winter. Sunlight bathed the town generously but the air was chilled, the sun's heat muted and kept greedily back. Ayame brought her hood up over her head thankful that she had dressed warmly when the incident had happened. Her memory didn't serve her well but she could vaguely remember falling and the sudden cold that had wrapped around her. Stuffing her hands into her sweater pocket, Ayame inspected the damaged building. Dead vines crept up one side of the house and some stone bricks were ominously pushed outwards creating a structure that resembled the game Jenga.
"Now...how to fix you?" With hardly anyone else around, Ayame had begun to voice her thoughts aloud. It helped fight off the emptiness and fear, the feeling of being stranded alone although she was not. She was scared, of course, but crying would do nothing. Whining would do nothing. The only thing she could do that would help would be to accept the reality and move on. And she had. The problem now was that she knew nothing about rebuilding.
Bending down, she picked up a fallen brick and the displeased frown returned. "Honestly, we'll all be dead if an earthquake comes." Examining the brick, she turned it over in her hands as she walked absentmindedly around her new 'home'. As she neared the back of the structure, scowling at the mass of weeds that had grown with free reign around the house, she heard the sound of footsteps. Assuming it to be from one of the others she had seen heading to their separate homes, Ayame hurried around to meet them. Whatever they had to say, perhaps it would be helpful.
"Hell-" Ayame turned the corner, her almost finished greeting bitten back by surprise. "No." Impossible. She wouldn't allow it. There was far too much shit for her to handle already. He had disappeared without even a word one year ago and it would be some cruel twist of fate for them to meet now because of supernatural circumstance. She would not have any of it.
Scowl brought back to her features, Ayame tossed the brick aside before returning her attention back to him. She couldn't trust herself with any throw-able object at the moment or at any time in the near future. Crossing her arms, she glanced away but then forced her gaze back towards him. If anything, he should be the one avoiding her eyes. With a huff, she said his name with as much distaste one could even hope to convey in mere syllables. "Kuroyuki."

"SHIT! NO!" Jumping away from her laptop, Ayame grabbed a pillow, using it as a shield between her and the horrific game. "Who the fuck plays this? Why the fuck do you even play this?" Ranting always lessened her fright but it did little for this particular game. Perhaps it was because of her surroundings: walls covered by 'cute' plush animals and staring posters. What helped, however, were the bright lights...but even that came to an end. Lights turning off and electricity shutting down suddenly, Ayame screamed, running out of the room with one of her plush animals and her pillow. Attempting to calm down though very much panicked, she did what she always did when a game took a toll on her emotions. She called Yasa. Mobile ringing, she leaned against a wall in the very corner of her room with the door in sight. "Pick up, idiot. If you don't pick up, I swear. Oh my god, Yasa I swear."

15. Love is a Cat From Hell
"Eh, will you stop calling me that?" Yasaburou responded hopelessly, crunching his brow in distaste toward his surname. It didn’t necessarily have a fond memory of his family, so he tended to erase it from everyone’s mind immediately, if even letting them be aware of it at all. Still, even after his persistence in questioning it, he expected the same response each time. ‘If you quit calling me any variation of my name that isn’t Ayame’. There was barely a point in asking, but he couldn’t help but try. Letting go of his inquiry before she responded, the young male focused on the main problem, being the damn cat ready to tear him to shreds. "Mm," He paused, giving a thought to getting out of the corner the feline put him in. Upon noting a blanket by his feet, the male took grasp of it and threw it toward the cat, trapping it under it’s fleece netting.
Feline struggling to get away with no avail, Yasaburou couldn’t help but find amusement in it’s torture. “H-How hasn’t he f-f-found an opening yet?” He stuttered through chuckles, covering his mouth with a free hand.
Ayame huffed, not bothering to reply to his question. Theirs was a dialogue they repeated often and she had already memorized the conversation path. Fulfilling it would be in accordance to her tradition but she just didn't care enough at the moment. Resting her head on her palm, she scribbled in the answers to her work with a determined diligence. Maybe, she should have stayed at the library to finish up. Maybe, she should have changed her locks everyday or made a 'No Yasaburou's Beyond this Point' sign to hang on her door. She doubted he would comply. The best security she had to her studies and to her peace of mind was Shachou. A sharp yowl caught her attention and the pencil that so stubbornly clung to paper paused. He was up to something, wasn't he? Taking the space of a breath, Ayame wondered whether or not she wanted to check on him. Faint chuckles from across the room persuaded her against her previous decision. Turning her head towards them, her customary frown was painted on her face. "Yasaburou-san, whatever you're doing, stop. It's no wonder he doesn't like you."
