"Ugh, that sucks." She slid onto the bench next to her friend and bumped her shoulder companionably. "Well, at least you have company now."
"Iâm good. I mean, I was reading when the power went out, so I had to migrate to the porch, and the weather turned out way too nice to waste it not talking a walk, you know?â She shrugged cheerfully. âPlus, definitely needed a break from Dad and Celine. What about you?â
Raini flashed a big grin, "Thanks, Bells. Â You're definitely number one in my contacts, seeing as I don't have a long list of friends." Â She chuckled, "But hey, you're great so I don't mind."
"How are things with big poppa and lil' sis?" She raised an apprehensive brow, then gave a small shrug, "I haven't been able to see London, work is so busy for her so I've just been holed up in my room with Lucy."

"Oh, jeez, Rai,â she said, torn between concern and reproach. âTake a seat for a few minutes, okay?âÂ
"Whatâs the rush, anyway? I canât believe anyoneâs still out and about. I mean, no electricity. Thatâs ridiculous."
Following her friends advice, Rai settled herself down on a nearby bench, taking deep breathes and regaining herself, "Well typically I'd be at home, but my phone died and it had most of my sheet music so practicing any new pieces on Lucy is out of the question. Â Decided to get some air before I'm wrangled back in due to safety precautions."
She quirked a grin, "How are you dealing, Bells?"
As she regained composure Dexter allowed himself to switch from Doctor Mode to regular citizen. He laughed at her comment, and allowed a slight eye roll. âPlease Rai, I know youâve seen the inside of enough hospitals.â His grin spread as she spoke, happy to see that she was finally doing well. Pink cheeks and red lips - both signs of a steadily beating heart.
"I havenât seen her around lately, to be honest." Dexter said with a glimmer of longing flashing somewhere in his eyes. He enjoyed spending time with London but his hectic schedule made it hard for him to see her recently.
"Maybe I've seen enough hospitals, but handsome doctors? Â Never enough!" She waved her hands in a grand gesture, a small giggle escaping her, "Which reminds me, you have got to introduce me to some of your friends," she gave a small pout, "London never does."
Raini eyed Dexter at his response, a small smile growing. Â She had always liked to tease London about her and Dexter sitting in a tree, but whether he wanted to do some tree sitting wasn't as easily picked up as her sister's intents were, "That's a shame, the three of us should get lunch soon. Â At least I know if I were to start blacking out, I have two professionals with me."

Entering the building Scout had automatically head over to the bay of elevators only to recall the current loss of power. Groaning in annoyance, Scout spun on her heels to turn her attention towards the stairs. Thatâs when she spotted Raini.
"If I didnât know any better Iâd say you came from the gym." Scout noted as she coolly approached.Â
Raini grimaced at the comment, less out of offensive and more out of the fact how often she received such comment. Â Clearing her throat she stood fully, giving herself a once over and looking back up at her new company, "Well, tell me, am I getting thinner?" She gave a little twirl, a light grin gracing her face, amused at her own antics.
"I'm sure you're aware of the power outage? Â How dare such commoner problems trouble us elite members of society." She spoke jokingly.
He fought back the temptation to check her vitals, fists slowly balled in anxious fists. âYouâre sure?â he asked, eyes darting around her face, searching for signs of trouble.
He loosened at the sight of her smile. He offered her one of his own. âIâve been good, thank you for asking. Thatâs a good thing! Canât say Iâve missed seeing you.â He chuckled.
She gave him a reassuring nod, and as her muscles relaxed from her cough attack, she found herself at ease with the conversation, her natural charm taking place. "You haven't missed me?! Â Well, I'm hurt, doctor. Â Truly. Â I'm going to have to quit eating all apples from now on and I'm storming in there first thing tomorrow morning." A wide grin took up her face, enjoying the company of someone other than her sister.
"You're making sure London doesn't work herself to death, I'm sure?"
A light chuckle escaped his lips, as he swallowed the words âYou ought to laugh more' that had reached the tip of his tongue. It was evident that her tolerance was particularly low today. That, or his perception was particularly sharp.
"Well, theyâre not, so I have nothing to worry about," he said with a Cheshire grin. "Though, just in case this is your last moment, give us a smile."
"See now, I would smile, but with those stairs I just tackled, my heart condition and the utter devastation my smile alone causes, I think smiling would be the very thing that killed me. Â Let's rain check." Â And with that, Rai allowed a tight lip smirk to grace her face, and mischief gleamed in her eyes. Â Her father was going to be there with her whether she liked it or not; so she simply had to find a way to like it, and pushing his buttons was her favorite. Â Although admittedly, he was never easily deterred.

"HeyâŚ" Dexterâs voice was laced with genuine concern as he approached the girl. "Hey Raini, are you okay?" He placed a gentle, but reassuring hand on her back.
Raini peeked up to see Dexter looming over her with concern, and with her eyes watering from coughing, she mustered a smile and a dismissive wave of her hand, standing fully, "I'll be fine, promise." Â She cleared her throat, offering a warmer smile, "Good thing the building wasn't on fire or anything."
"How have you been, Dex? Â It's been a while since I've been at the hospital, surprisingly."

Jaxson approached his youngest daughter with a glass of water, notably lacking ice, in his hand. âGood lord, arenât you unfit?â He, rather insensitively, teased.Â
Raini could feel her eyes almost roll out of their sockets and she rose from her position, trying her best to suppress her hacking and shot a look towards her father, "With your sense of humor, I'll have a six pack from laughing in no time."
She eyed the glass of water and begrudgingly accepted it, gulping it down. "And if those were your last words to me?"
Raini "Rai" Zavos ⽠18 years old ⽠[CLOSED]
Music had saved Rainiâs life. Though it was clichĂŠ to say, it was the honest truth. Raini Zavos was born the younger of the two Zavos daughters in Los Angeles, California. The Zavos family did what they could to stay out of the limelight; but it was hard when your mother was a well-known actress and your father was the handsome heir to an unthinkable fortune. Having famous parents had its perks, though. The girls grew up wanting for nothing. Horses, jewelry, houses, and cars were theirs if they asked. Though her parents divorced when she was just eight years old, Rai never harbored any bad memories of her father or of her childhood. All of her bad memories can be traced back to the fall of her seventh grade year.
She fainted. It was a Tuesday and the entire school was in the cafeteria for lunch when Raini Zavos crashed to the floor. When she woke up in the hospital a few hours later, she was mortified when her sister told her the commotion she had caused; but looking foolish in front of the school was the last of her worries. Rai felt fine. She couldnât understand why the doctors were keeping her for so much testing, scans, bloodwork, and injections. She was anxious to get back home, but her doctors insisted on keeping her overnight. The results came back the next afternoon. Rai had been living with undiagnosed Pulmonary Valve Stenosis. The congenital heart disease had been threatening Raiâs live since birth; and she had no idea.
The prognosis was easy; Rai would have to take several medications twice daily, she was restricted from all physical activity, and she was to be monitored closely. Shocked, scared, and little angry Rai had nowhere to turn until her sister suggested she try playing an instrument. Without any other options, Rai reluctantly asked her mother for a violin and lessons; and from the moment her bow sung out across the strings, Rai knew it was love. She poured all of her frustration, sadness, and emotion out when she played, practicing day and night. She was born to play the violin, there was no denying that. When her big sister London decided to leave for Connecticut after she graduated high school Raini insisted she go with her, despite leaving her dreams of playing in the LA Philharmonic behind. Rai is now in her senior year at Old Greenwich High School with her sights set on Julliard. All she has to do is remain the best violinist in Greenwich and stay out of trouble.

London Zavos: Sister. London is the closest thing Raini had to a mother and a father. Her sister has sat through hospital stays, attended recitals, and has supported Raini through everything and beyond. The two are extremely close and are rarely seen apart.
Jaxson Zavos: Father. Raini was never a daddyâs girl and frankly she never will be. Rai didnât come to Greenwich to be with her father, she came for London. The two have a civil relationship.Â
Ashton Reynolds: Half-sister. Though Rainiâs loyalties lay with London, she feels like sheâs been a little too harsh on Ashton. When London is around Raini would never be caught talking to Ashton; but she actually doesnât mind her.
