Coffee? || Camden & Bella
With his coffee now lukewarm and half-finished, Camden quietly closed the book he was working on and stood up from his seat in the corner of the cafe. He glanced at his phone just once more to make sure she’d asked for a latte (there seemed to be at least five different kinds, but he figured a vanilla latte would work), before heading back up to the barista.
As he waited back in his seat with the latte, he glanced outside for a moment - The power seemed to be slowly coming back, judging by the flickering, unstable street lights outside. He didn’t give it much thought, though, as long as it was bright in the coffee shop. He wasn’t sure why he was so excited to see Bella again, but they’d grown fairly close over the school year, since they more or less saw each other every day. It was unusual, given their age difference, but he considered her one of his closest friends.
He snapped out of his thoughts when he saw the familiar figure through the window, and offered Bella a wave, only then realizing that he’d been gripping onto the latte with his hands (a subconscious effort to keep it warm? He wasn’t sure).
It was surprisingly cool outside, perfect weather to have coffee. Bella felt a little like a typical teenager, spending too much of her time indoors instead of out there, enjoying what the world had to offer. She shook off the feeling when she spotted Mr. Bowman through the café window, and returned the wave before picking up her pace.
"Hey, Mr. Bowman! Thanks for the coffee." She grinned and slid into the seat across from his, dropping her bag into her lap. "Also, you really haven't heard of YOLO? For shame."
Thank goodness there was a café actually up and running in this mess - although it looked like the power was gradually returning to the neighbourhood, which meant Bella could've stayed home after all. Still, it was always nice to see Mr. Bowman outside of school, and he was infinitely preferable company to another fight between Celine and Dad.
"What are you reading, anyway? I brought Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, in case you didn't have any material. But I should've guessed you had something of your own." She waited for him to relinquish the latte before reaching over to take a sip.
