溝に落ちた子鹿･･

朝の5:00前、春日大社の参道を歩いていたら溝に落ちた子鹿を発見。母鹿や仲間に促されて溝を出ようとするも、足の踏ん張りが足らずに段差を乗り越えられない･･子鹿もしようがなく座り込んでみたり段差に顎乗せて何か考えているようなそぶりを見せたり･･母鹿も少し高い場所で座って子鹿を眺めていました。

40分程が経過して、明るくなって人が増えてきたらトラブルの素になりそうなので、しばらく見守らないとダメかなと思った矢先、母鹿が子鹿に近づいて背中を軽く毛繕い。僕がよそ見をしている間に子鹿が段差を超えて溝から出ていました。母鹿が「そろそろもう一度頑張ってみなさい😉」と促したのかもしれません。

その後親子は森の中へと歩いていきました。目立つ場所に留まらずに済んだのでほっとしました。

These are leaf cutter ants! They harvest leaves to take back to their nest. They don’t eat the leaves but instead feed it to a fungus they tend to and eat. These guys are farmers and the leaves are fertilizer. Such fascinating little creatures!

One of my absolute favorite local birds, the Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica)! These guys are very abundant here, and I love their personality and little songs. Very often on my walks in Spring, a bluethroat male will jump out of the bush, puff up its beautiful chest and sing as loud as he can, sometimes using bits and bobs from other birds' songs.
