Shelby was considered the traditional 'perfect victim' she was infantilized and therefore treated as 'innocent' and like she could do no wrong.

I'd say A also falls into this category. A lot of people headcannoned them with autism which really annoys me given just how much they were infantilized in the same breath. A tried to kill multiple people and supposedly permanently mutilated Pyro but they were beloved by the fandom.

A was an insecure bully who didn't care about who they were with so long as they were with the strongest on the hierarchy. To be the highest on a hierarchy you need people to be below you. A started with trying to do this with the vampires then followed along and tried to do the same with the humans after switching sides. Tried to play themselves as a victim when everyone was so so accepting of A being a vampire and actively reaching out to them in ways A cut Pyro off from being reached out to.

A was the one who first started the whole "Shelby is saveable and Pyro is too far gone" belief in the townsfolk and with the work of Scott is the reason Pyro was doomed. Scott started it and kept a tight leash on Pyro while A cut off Pyro from anyone possibly trying to help him.

Martyn even questioned at one point "Wait why do we think Pyro is far gone again? What have they actually done?" but as people started to realize the only reason they thought Pyro was too gone was because of A's words Pyro was actually already far too gone.

Shelby was purposefully naive to Scott and Owen. She was hidden from things but not as much as people act. Owen outright said that his motivation was to cause others to hurt as he does and that he's glad Apo feels outcasted and alone Infront of Shelby. She purposefully ignores this. cc Shelby said if Pyro reached out to vShelby she would've ignored it because it would've messed with her view.

But both are treated like angels that can do no wrong.

Apo and Pyro

Apo is a trans woman who was taken into the woods to be alone with three men who take turns drinking from her including Pyro. Pyro feels like Apo's fate is already sealed at this point his goal is to make it go as easy as possible because 'The struggle just makes it worse for you.' ( as thought from their own experience )

Pyro is a queer man but because of vsmp their fanbase is full of women who relate to the character. Pyro was naively led into the woods at night with two people. But was it really naive? I mean people in vsmp have gone out into the woods with others many many times even with knowing about vampires. Pyro was only once mentioned about vampires from Apo who was just asking his opinion on it. Why would they think about that? Why would they ever consider that these two strangers plan to hurt him? In Owen and Scott's minds currently they plan on doing a two for one but why would Pyro know that??

People get so mad when women aren't prepared or when women are overly paranoid about men. It's a lose lose situation.

Only Apo and Pyro are called stupid for going out with strangers into the woods when plenty of the vsmp characters do it those two just happened to get unlucky. Apo kills Truffle. It's messed up that's her and Pyro's pet. But Pyro was willing to kill *her* which is brought up far less.

Pyro is BLAMED FOR TRYING TO LEAVE THE COVEN! THE COVEN THEY DIDN'T CHOOSE TO JOIN! THE COVEN WITH TWO MASS MURDERER WHO TOOK HIM OUT INTO THE WOODS TO MURDER THEM!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Scott beats Pyro half to death and that's 'not that big of a deal' but Pyro tries to leave the group that he's FORCED TO BE WITH that HAS TRIED TO KILL THEM and the only one who at the time hadn't tried to END HIM ENDS UP DOING IT and Pyro is seen as IN THE WRONG FOR THIS WHAT?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? 'scott felt sad because Pyro was trying to betray him :((' SCOTT KILLED THEM!!! SHUT UP!!! Flash BACKS bro

The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.

And I am not going to mince words here:

A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.

That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.

"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.
