* the duck with all the bad luck

 “Tricks are fun.” The youngster retorted with a soft chuckle and shrug. “Besides, when the last time you washed that shirt? It REALLY smells.” The real reason she smeared a marker’s ink over his shirt, no doubt. 

Scrooge regained composure and briefly looked his nephew silently in the eye before he teared up and quickly turned his head away.  “Look, Donald, I–I hope you understand that I never really wanted her to go on the rocket so soon, at least not before it was fully tested.  I just wanted her to be happy.  Maybe I spoiled her a bit too much.  I should’ve listened to you.  You were right all along.”  

        this. this is why he didn’t want to continue a relationship with his uncle. he didn’t want to continue talking about his sister... he didn’t want to feel like HE WAS RESPONSIBLE or that this was anyone’s fault. there was nothing anyone could have done ; della was a stubborn duck -- they should have known this would happen.

“Aw, come on, cuz. Like what? Touchin’ up this old boat o’ yours?”

Gladstone leaned on the doorframe, watching his cousin’s activities with an absentminded but nonetheless smug expression. He hadn’t come here necessarily seeking trouble, but the two together quite often entailed that. Of course, he seemed to quite disregard that come the following sentence.

“With a question like that, you’d think I’m only ever here on business, D-Money. Kinda hurtful, not gonna’ lie.”

     ❝ yes. as you can see : i’m very busy. ❞ he had picked up a cloth that he was using to dust off some of the furniture. he didn’t even had to look at gladstone to know that he was making his usual expression. 

    ❝ you always play tricks on me, della ! ❞ he holds his guitar towards himself, trying to rub off the marker that was written on it. seriously, she could be so annoying ! what was she trying to get out of this ? ❝ ugh, you’re lucky that this is washable. ❞

   ❝ what do you need from me now ? ❞ if his cousin was showing his face towards him, it meant there was trouble close by. and donald wasn’t really excited on being on the short end of the stick... again. especially since their run in at the casino.  ❝ i’m very busy. ❞

    ❝ is this supposed to be a joke or what ? ❞ he waves away the other duck in front of him, ❝ did the boys put you up to this ? ❞

aw get outta here!

    ❝ wait, what ? ❞ he listened to the young duckling talk, eyes glancing in different directions as he tries to piece the story together. ❝ look, if the boys tell you to do something, it’s most likely a trap ; trust me on this. ❞

Scrooge nodded and looked down.  He saw how happy they all looked in the picture Donald had painted.  He wished they could be that happy again, but he knew they never could.  Deep down, Scrooge realized it was wrong to build her The Spear of Selene.  “It’s not fair!”  Scrooge blurted a thought to himself out loud.  “She-she was Della Duck!  I thought she could do anything!”

      it wasn’t hard to tell how donald felt about this whole situation. he partially blamed himself because he couldn’t talk his sister out of going, or stopping scrooge from finishing the rocket. he just wanted to go back and change time, but that could never happen. however, seeing his uncle freak out like this really set him over the edge.
