i feel like part of the reason that ai art is so popular is because we forgot what the meaning of art is.
art was supposed to be self-expression, it was supposed to be enjoyable, but so many times ive seen people rip beginner artists to shreds, or make fun of people with unique artstyles. people forgot about the PROCESS that is art. everyone just wants perfection all the time, but art is not about perfection. art is about the process and the feelings and the ideas. cave paintings didnt perfectly replicate their subjects, but they are still art. so even today, if someone tries drawing something and it doesnt turn out the way they expected, IT IS STILL ART. like fuck dude draw a smily face on a foggy window. its art.
and also can we talk about how shitty people are
i have genuinely seen artistic spaces (a lot of the tiktok art community, for example) that are SO toxic. honestly i despise ai but just seeing a fraction of the shit people get for being new to art or not doing something a certain way i can genuinely understand why it can drive someone to think they will never be good at art. i can understand i someone would think just using ai would be a better use of their time. i dont condone it obvs, but i get it.
not everyone wants to spend a lot of time doing art, but that doesnt mean they shouldnt do art ever. not everyone can make art the way they want to, but that doesnt mean they shouldnt do art ever.
i feel like if we didnt have such toxic art communities in some places and if people actually understood what art is supposed to be maybe that would be better.
i feel like its definitely part of the reason.
