indomitableprideâ:Â Â
He was already starting on the fourth hot dog when he was asked about his training. Yesâ this was the perfect opportunity to catch up, and he had been very interested on his progress. âAbout as well as you might think, but I donât really like to talk about it. I would rather we test our strength instead,â he stressed. He had given Raditz a sufficient amount of time, and now he wanted to fight himâ and see how long he could hold out on him.
âNot right now, obviously. But soon.â
Raditz gave Vegeta a lopsided grin as he proposed that they spar sometime soon to test their strength against each other. It would most likely result with Vegeta beating him, but Raditz hopefully could keep him on his toes for a little while. âSounds like a great idea, weâll definitely do that soon,â he agreed after swallowing the last bite of his third hot dog. He was eating at a slower pace than Vegeta for the moment since he wanted to savor the smoky flavors of the meats. âIn other news, Iâve taken up bounty hunting to earn some money and to practice my other skills training doesnât cover.â
saiyanandproudâ:Â
Mouth agape, Mariko listened to Raditz with a touched look as he spoke, her eyes sparkling. Anyone not knowing Raditz well enough would have taken his words as patronising â selfish, even â but she knew better. Her mentor had his unique way of granting words of fondness, and well, those definitely were.Â
How did she miss it before? Was it really because she had disaccustomed to his presence? Or was it before she was too deep into her bad mood to realise? Suddenly, âeasy to manageâ sounded like the most beautiful compliment to her ears.
âOf course itâs that big of a deal!â She exclaimed, a large, relieved smile stretching all the way to her eyes. She blinked, trying to get rid of the bleariness in them. âItâs not for granted! I mean, you areâ YouââÂ
She couldnât find the proper words to conclude her thoughts, and decided to renounce, to not ruin the moment. She didnât, however, keep herself from going in for a second fond hug, really not caring about the show she was given to the passerbys.
âThank you,â she murmured, shoulders tensing as she tried to take in Raditzâ figure in her embrace. âIâm so glad youâre back, really!âÂ
Raditz gave her a raised brow as Mariko exclaimed that his words were a big deal -- to her anyways. He had been responding in self-defense for his neglect at keeping in touch with his student. Not that he could help it of course, but it seemed like she more than forgave him as she closed the gap between them and began to hug him. This caught him off guard, which allowed her to successfully wrap him in an embrace.Â
He blinked a few times before glancing down at the top of Marikoâs head as she thanked him and expressed her feelings of joy for having him around again.Â
âWell...ahem,â he began to say before clearing his throat and tried to sound more stern again. âGet used to it. I think the pink imp is done using me to do such assignments for awhile.â
indomitableprideâ:Â
This was better than he had expectedâ especially when Raditz revealed all the bags full of hot dogs. The smell alone would probably attract Nappa wherever he was. âExcellentâ bring them over here.â They were outside near the patio, and there they could sit and eat and possibly catch up on what Raditz had been doing while he was away, training.
âNappa is hereâ he should be coming around, soonââ he didnât waste anymore time and eagerly bit into the first of the many hot dogs he would eat that evening.Â
âSure thing, Prince.â Raditz said with a smile and a nod while collecting the bags and setting them on the patio table. For awhile Raditz watched Vegeta eat with gusto for the meat-on-meat wrapped with a fluffy bun before he took one himself and began to eat as well.
âHow is the training going?â he asked after swallowing his first bite of food before going in for a second and third one.Â

Marikoâs lips pursed in a round pout at she listened to Raditz, nodding at each word. âRight. So she was firm!â
She smiled, amused. It was rare for Raditz to say he got along with someone â if he did, he really meant it. She however blushed as he recalled the episode of his kid self running around Conton, lost and confused.Â
âI do! Do you?â She asked, baffled. She never knew he had any memory of the event. Gosh, did he even remember how she offered him a meatballs sub?Â
âBut yes, sure you were cute!â And as she recalled his baby gremlin face, she pressed her lips and puffed her cheeks in an attempt to restrain herself from squealing. âOr adorable, even.â She whispered.
Raditz chuckled as Mariko was astonished that he remembered the odd event where his child self managed to get to Conton. âOf course I do. I had to catch him so he could be sent back to his own time. Heh, my younger self gave quite a lot of patrollers a hard time. Was he the same with you? Or was he more well-behaved?â This subject about himself seemed to put him in a better mood compared to how defensive he got about his mother. Not that he was opposed to talking about his mother more. It was just easier to milk the topic of himself in a positive light.
indomitableprideâ:
He was actually surprised to see him thereâ perhaps he had been doing his training like he had promised him. Even better was the treat he had gotten from him. Meat wrapped with more meat? This is why he didnât want to leave this planetâŚ
âThis is better than I had expected. Any chance we could get more? Iâm sure Nappa would like some.â
Yes! Looks like Vegeta was pleased with the offering.Â
âI bought out the five carts that I found, so there should be enough to share.â Raditz handed off the bag he was holding to Vegeta while pulling out a storage capsule from his pocket. after tossing it to his side there was a chest full of at least twenty more bags of bacon wrapped hot dogs.
âWhere is Nappa anyways?â he asked while looking around, wondering if the smell would bring him to them.Â
@indomitableprideâ
âHey Vegeta,â Raditz greeted with a bag full of bacon wrapped hot dogs. âFound something you might like.â He tossed one of the aluminum wrapped dogs towards Vegeta expecting him to catch it and open up the surprise.
Hiiiii!! đđ i love your art so much! If youâd be interested, could we see a cute sleepy Raditz? I love the big man a lot and i bet naptimes with him are comfy~~
Hope you like it <3

saiyanandproudâ:Â
Mariko beamed at Raditzâ reasoning â yes, it was perfectly logical! She nodded, eyes shining in admiration.
âYes, right! Both her and Bardock!â She betrayed her admiration for the latter with a dreamy sigh as she spoke his name, but he was quick to focus back on Raditz in an instant. âAnd how was Gine with you? Did you get along? Was she sweet? Did you play together?â
She tilted her head with a pondering pout. âThereâs so little on books about Saiyan mothers. I guess itâs because they did not have much time to be after their kids? But Gineâs case was different, wasnât it?â She gave Raditz with a large grin. âI bet you were a cute Saiyan kid, too!â
âYouâre so full of questions,â Raditz sighed, but he didnât seem to mind it much at all and was probably feigning irritation for the sake of appearances. âYou would probably consider her sweet, but she didnât tolerate bad behavior and didnât mind correcting me when she felt it was needed. We got along.â
Raditz met Marikoâs grin with one of his own after she gave him the compliment. âOf course I was a cute kid,â he chuckled and added, âDonât you remember that time my child self was running around Conton City?â
saiyanandproudâ:Â
Mariko shrunk under the reprimand, her head low. Itâs not like she didnât expect something like that. Really, she shouldnât have expected anything since the beginning, maybe it would have been for the better.Â
But her mentorâs words landed heavily on her nonetheless, drawing a saddened frown on her face. Sure, it made sense. In fact, maybe she even sounded idiotic with her nostalgia â old Saiyans were used to have no emotional attachments to what they left back home on their journeys. Being away for long periods was ordinary, a necessity really, something they grew accustomed to as kids, and letters and updates to their families were completely unusual. No wonder Raditz didnât even think about writing to her â he never did it with anyone, after all.Â
And now, to that, she had to sum the burden of having disappointed him, showing she didnât become anything close to the tough Saiyan warrior she always planned to be. She wasnât sure what had mislead her from that perspective, whether the absence of her mentors, her human side taking over⌠Or maybe, simply, she never had any hope. She was never meant to become a tough Saiyan warrior.
She was still mulling over those thoughts when Raditz muttered something low â so low she barely heard it. She glanced up at him, confused.
âSorry, I didnât hear. Did you sayââ
Then it dawned on her â as if it had echoed in her head and took some lag to be processed by her mind. Her eyes went wide in a baffled look, her cheeks warmed up slightly.
âUhâ Youâ Really?â
âYes, really! Donât try to have me say it again,â he hissed with a cross look on his face. âIs it really that big of a deal? Havenât you heard a word I said? I told you I was among ingrates most of the time I was gone. Arrogant fools who thought they were too good to receive my advice and assistance on their rookie missions that were more on their level.â
After scoffing and tossing his head to the side, he turned back to Mariko with a small frown and added, âAt least you donât give guff and are easy to manage.â
saiyanandproudâ:Â
âI⌠Didnât say anythingâŚâ
Mariko blinked at that reply, sinking her teeth in her lips. Did Raditz sense her annoyance? Was it really so blatant?Â
Then again, he was the one meant to teach her how to handle sensitive situations while on mission â a training he wasnât there to complete in the end. And while Mariko could have tried to find someone else to fulfill that lack of skills, she never did; she was too busy grieving the absence of her mentors to ever think about replacing them.
She sighed and lowered her head. She wasnât sure what kept her from being honest about her disappointment with Raditz. Maybe the fact that, despite his mighty look, she had always felt a hidden fragility in him, an elephant in the room that he always indirectly addressed with his attitude. It wasnât like Vegeta, whose pride was neat and genuine; Raditz always felt as if he was trying to compensate for something, and Mariko never dared to make him feel like he ever lacked anything to her eyes. Also because truly, he never did.
Not until that day.Â
âItâs just⌠Why didnât you ever tell me why you were gone?â She murmured, her eyes still low. âNot a letter, just⌠A text, a wordâŚâ
And with that, she finally managed to raise her look at him, praying he wouldnât read what was in it as disappointment â just a honest, deep sadness.Â
âIâve missed you lots. I had been waiting for you to come back for months.â
As Mariko expressed some of her feelings of neglect, Raditz started to frown. Though if it was from his own guilt or dissatisfaction with her for showing such emotions was left unaddressed. âSaiyan warriors rarely have time to send letters when theyâre on missions, Mariko. Being gone for years is an expectation. So donât take it personally.â
Glancing from side to side for anyone nearby that might hear him, the long haired Saiyan cleared his throat then muttered under his breath, âI missed you too...â

saiyanandproudâ:Â
The sudden scolding made her recoil a bit, but didnât scare her â Mariko was usued to Raditzâ harsh ways. Although, to be honest, she had never seen him getting that annoyed.Â
âAh! Alright! Sorry!â
She held her breath, waiting for her answer. When it came, she gave a side glance to her messy locks, pulling one to inspect it.
âMy hair?â She said. âHuh. I guess it does have a bit of a Saiyan touch in it.â
And that was why she liked it. Not like her mother, back on Earth, who kept telling her how unruly it looked.Â
She glanced back at Raditz with a curious smile. He had gone back to his usual sulk, as if nothing had happened. While knowing that investigating further on that unusual reaction would have been insensitive, Mariko was dying of curiosity. She leaned towards Raditz with wide eyes, ready to know more.
âSo she was strong,â she went on with an eager smile. âAm I as strong as her? How was her fighting style like?â
Raditz quietly watched as his student inspected her locks of wild hair and made her comments. Then she turned back to him with more eager questions that Raditz couldnât answer on his own.Â
âThat would probably be better questions to ask my father,â he begrudgingly replied when Mariko inquired about his motherâs strength and fighting style. âShe didnât fight much after becoming a butcher.â
He then began to smirk as he started to partially brag, âThough in order to have had an elite Saiyan warrior for a son, like me, she must have been strong enough.â
saiyanandproudâ:
Mariko nodded as Raditz enlisted all the facts, her eyebrows knitted in an attentive look. She smiled; so Gine was soft hearted. Somehow, it made sense. And while Raditz claimed only Goku had inherited this trait, she liked to belive that he, too, had a bit of that somewhere in his heart. After all, he was kind to her, in his own cranky way.
When Raditz turned at her, Mariko answered his look with a curious one. He seemed focussed, as if trying to remember something. What he said, however, took her completely unprepared.Â
âI do?â Her eyes went wide and she blinked, baffled.Â
She kept staring at Raditz as he got lost in his thought, wondering what similarities he could have possibly seen in them. Her chest started bubbling of excitement. She shuffled closer to him at the question, her hands closed in two fists.Â
âSimilar how?â She asked, eyes wide with curiosity. âWhy? Is it the way she looked? Or because of her personality? ⌠Itâs not her fighting skills, though, right?â She added, midly concerned.
Raditz was quick to get defensive as he corrected Mariko in an annoyed tone of voice, âItâs not that she lacked the fighting skill, she just couldnât make the kills. Thatâs what defines a Saiyan warrior who can go out on missions.â Maybe he was being a bit too harsh on the girl but he wouldnât apologize for it.
Once that was said, he returned to his usual tone of voice and continued to clarify why he said she looked like his mother. âItâs your eyes. And your hair is similar. Thatâs all.â
He was quiet for awhile after that. Not having much more to say as he tried to regain his earlier composure after losing his cool a bit. Clearly his mother was a touchy subject when it came to her past as a fighter and why she didnât continue to be one.Â
