2015 in Review
Stolen from @radiatorsister
1. What did you do in 2015 that you’d never done before?
I presented academic work at conferences and it was a rush.
2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I think I resolved to give a genuine compliment to one person each day because compliments make people feel good, and I don’t know for sure if I kept that resolution. This year I’ve made loose resolutions to be more patient with makeup application so it looks nicer, and to start drinking 3L of water a day again.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yeah! My friend Gina. Her wee babe is badass, too. 4. Did anyone close to you die?
No one close to me, no. But two extended family members passed away this month, sadly. 5. What countries did you visit?
Just the US, several times. 6. What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?
Hmm…I’d like to have a bit more of a sense of control over life during really hectic and stressful months. I’m working on making this happen by planning everything I can right now so I’m not overloaded this semester, at least. 7. What date from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No specific dates! 8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Honestly? Just being able to juggle teaching, TA-ing, PhD-ing, and support staff-ing, and having some semblance of a social life pretty successfully.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not realizing early enough just how badly I needed to walk away from particular situations. 10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
There was the great knee injury of 2015. For the second year since turning 30, I hurt a knee while drinking and dancing. Something popped a few days later and it hasn’t bothered me since. Yikes.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmmmmmm…it’s really tough to remember everything I’ve bought that I thought was the best thing ever. Perhaps my Bose speaker? 12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
This is an odd question. Like I have to pat people on the head for good behaviour. I suppose I should celebrate my mother who is very slowly but surely making her way out of the grim weight-loss mindset, choosing to focus more on how she feels physically than on a number on the scale.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I won’t elaborate on this one. 14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, food, student loans, clothing. 15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I got really really excited about my birthday celebration, going to Le Nordik spa in Quebec, and being able to hug @radiatorsister. 16. What song will always remind you of 2015?
Hotline Bling, hands down.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? I reject the idea of happiness, but I will say that I feel more magnificent and excited for the year ahead. thinner or fatter? Fatter, for sure. richer or poorer? I’m making more money, but am perpetually broke because more money = paying more to debt. 18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
I wish I’d done more socializing with school friends and attending art and social justice events. 19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
I wish I’d spent less time and mental energy stressing out over things. 20. How did you spend Christmas?
I went home for a week, spending Christmas Eve with my father’s side of the family, and Christmas day with my mother’s side of the family. I was super fortunate to get lots of mom time and was able to hang out with friends from my hometown. I also did a little shopping, a lot of relaxing, and watched many holiday movies. 22. Did you fall in love in 2015?
Even more so with my friends, myself, and my plans for the future. 23. How many one-night stands?
None. Not my thing. 24. What was your favorite TV program?
The Leftovers and Sons of Anarchy.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate is a strong word. I developed a strong distaste for several people, unfortunately. 26. What was the best book you read?
I have no idea!
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Justin Bieber. No lie. Why has it taken me so long? I like fun.
28. What did you want and get?
I wanted to makeout with someone in July and I fulfilled that desire #goalachieved
29. What did you want and not get?
I wanted to save a particular amount of money but didn’t quite meet that goal. 30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Not shocking that I’m going to say Paranormal Activity 6.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I threw a really fun party, then we went dancing, and I turned 31.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Probably having met a making out goal every single month. I’m easy to please in this way.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?
Skirts, skirts, and more skirts. And once weather turned cold, “Black.”
34. What kept you sane?
This is a bit of an ableist question, no? 35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don’t do much by way of fancying public figures or celebrities.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Shit related to school shootings and the crisis of masculinity. 37. Who did you miss?
I miss the kitten I hung out with last night. 38. Who was the best new person you met?
Erin!!! 39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015:
That it’s okay to prioritize my own mental health, even if it costs friendship. 40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
“I have always been a storm.”
I didn't even think of putting you as a best new person because you've been in my life for so long online, but you totally are!!!
