Itās a cry for help she has heard far too many timesāas a soldier; as a mage general; as a professor acting on behalf of the Academy. (No matter where she travels and what she does, she cannot help but answer the call of those who needed her; who needed anyone, only for Selena to be the voice to answer: the only voice that can.) Her gaze narrows against the automaton; her ears close out the roar of the distant crowd; and her mind focuses on the task before her.
āDonāt worry.ā Iāll protect you. āYouāre safe with me.ā
She doesnāt know how quickly she can disarm the thingāhardly knows what it is, but if it was anything like the machine she had faced with her prince years ago, meandering the underground of the monasteryās vast, sprawling catacombs, it was clearly a fallible thing; and she had practice fighting it.
Ah, but there is little time afforded for her to simply think about it all, isnāt there? As soon as the acknowledgement settles in, the monster moves, shuffling its form about and raising one great arm to destroy her. Quick on her heels, the once-knight darts away, concentrating on her magic to spark and igniteā
āand foster lightning, crackling and ecstatic; the echoes of a storm to pierce through the guard. It stutters, if only briefly, but the opening is an allowance; she doesnāt know how long she has; doesnāt know what exactly theyāre facing; but if she can free the student before anything else occurs, then the worst case scenario becomes her death and his survival.
Which, in Selenaās opinion, isnāt too poor of an outcome.
Quickly, she arrives at his side, and in kinder situations, she wouldāve taken her time; wouldāve used a proper blade to aid in her precision. This is not a circumstance that grants such liberties, so even as their audience rages against her intentions, her fingertips spark with the warm flickers of Bolganone, and they are controlled, carefully, methodically, to burn.
(The automaton rears again.)
āand it is made clearly evident that Selena does not have the time to finish his escape. The flames vanish in an instant, careful to ensure that he is not injured, and then Selena:
(Hushed in tone, stated before she stands again, darting away to keep the machine occupied.) With any luck, the ropes were now loose enough that the student may be able to undo them entirely with his own sheer strength; but beaten as he was, Selena knows better than to hope. (She would have to make her way againāand intact.)
