I think it’s reasonable to assume he’d be fired— given dying in the explosion was his whole contingency plan, I don’t think he’d be all that emotionally stable if he managed to still survive.

I actually like the idea of him still being filled with rage even after stopping the unknowing. He Got The Bad Guy, the source of his grief, and yet he’s still angry. Perhaps he’s even angry that he’s still angry, that that gnawing feeling won’t go away.

Anywho, he wouldn’t be of much use— perhaps even a hinderance at this point. It’s much easier to let him go. (or kill him)
