This fun match, recently posted to the Wrestler4Hire site, combines classic pro wrestling action with the vibe of a vintage Superhero cartoon. I admit, as a pre-teen, I felt some strong attraction to cartoon Superheroes -- my eyes drawn to their god-like physiques and kinky costumes, while they strove to over-power their evil foes. It's so wonderfully gay! But I always felt a little let down, maybe because it wasn't traditional in-the-ring wrestling, or maybe because the Hero never suffered enough for my tastes.
So this recent W4H video scratches my Superhero itch in a pro wrestling context. Here is how the promo e-mail described it:
The gear and wrestlers are straight out of Saturday Morning TV... but the action is a little bit more Saturday Night TV. So if you're into that 60s, 70s, 80s or early 90s wrestling/superhero vibe, I think this one will be right up your alley.
It was, indeed, right up my alley.
Both performers are well-muscled, as a Superhero should be. Their sexy black costumes have me swooning. We've got the Dark Detective in a leather cowl with the pointy ears, only his lips and chin revealed. The masked villain wears a vintage pro mask, much like the supervillain, Bane. (Technically it should be Bane busting the Caped Crusader across his knee (see the May 28, 2011 post on my old WordPress blog for more of that story.))
So I tried to write today's captions in the style of those melodramatic Superhero comic books. Sometimes those over-the-top descriptions were enough for me, let alone the exaggerated violence.
Dark Detective vs. Rex Havoc is available for download from Wrestler4Hire, under their "SuperHero" section.
