That poor boy doesn't know how to act his age. I hc that whenever he's around Charmy or Cream, or really anyone else his age, he just becomes anxious, but not in like a jittery way. He'll become like a husk and super detached to his surroundings because he's just overthinking every little thing.

His body language, the way he speaks, even how he interacts with adults when he's around the other kids his age. He can see how they differ from him, and he doesn't understand why he can't just act like a kid.

It could have done that before. It could have slipped out of its crate at a transit station, or onto a vessel coming or going from an assignment post. It would have been a lot more difficult, but it had the skills to do it. It didn't, because it knew it wouldn't make it very far. It was still "on inventory," and if it went missing it would be hunted down and killed (or repoed).

For all that it sees Preservation's guardianship designation as just a nicer word for owner, it also considers being owned by Mensah as being "off inventory."
