Add Kings County WA (Seattle area) & Cape May County NJ to the RHDV2 affected counties. Both had deceased domesticated pet rabbits test positive for RHDV2 in May 2022. Vaccinate your rabbits to protect them and exercise biosecurity, especially in endemic areas where wild rabbits have died from RHDV2 (brown states- all except Texas, Montana have had 2022 wild rabbit deaths from RHDV2). RHDV2 kills fast in otherwise healthy rabbits. A few survive infection and may shed for months. External hemorrhaging is not generally being seen in rabbit deaths with the North American RHDV2 variant. The California Department of Agriculture has a said this variant has a 60-90% mortality rate (CDFA). Medgene Labs RHDV2 vaccine challenge test showed 69% of placebo rabbits exposed to RHDV2 died; none of the vaccinated ones died.
