I love Min-Hyuk.

Like I can’t remember exactly but this just seems familiar to me...like she said something very close to this about Kousuke in a previous chapter.

Y’all are in a public space. 

I guess she was kind of out of it when she was at the hospital but still.

On the one hand, I’m happy about it because it addresses something that has been bothering me about Yeong gi and Shin ae’s relationship. It felt very imbalanced to me. Like it was always Yeong gi going out of his way to help her over and over again. Now lemme just establish that I don’t think that’s a totally bad thing and I think his friendship and care is extremely beneficial and good. He is a genuine person who cares about Shin ae and there’s nothing wrong with that. 

But at the same time, I have been sort of put off from their relationship because it is very much Yeong gi as a “rescuer” and Shin ae as “rescued” in most situations, which from a writing standpoint kind of annoyed me. I know no relationship can be perfectly balanced, but I personally, do like them to be more of a give and take. But I’m not saying Shin ae hasn’t given anything to the relationship. In fact, a couple of chapters ago when Shin ae said she has been a bad friend to Yeong gi, I totally disagreed with her. I don’t think she’s been a bad friend at all. The only times she was rude to him was when they weren’t even friends and she had every right to be like that. Also I guess her testifying in court is supposed to be a way for her to finally help him in a more obvious way.

But anyway back to this line. 

I’m glad he’s acknowledging that Shin ae doesn’t need his help, which steers him out of the whole “rescuer” mindset. So overall I am happy with this being said.

The only reason I’m a little wary of this line is that I don’t know if this is supposed to be saying that Yeong gi has always felt this way. Now this is just my opinion but in the early chapters, when he was insisting on building a friendship with Shin ae despite her very blatant and repeated refusals, I do think that he felt like she was in need of help. Perhaps not necessarily his help, but someone’s help. And this may be one of his usual characteristics seeing as how he was also like this with Dieter and Alyssa. But yeah I just get weird vibes when characters say things that contradict their actions. But this isn’t necessarily a case of that because he is talking about present tense, not past.
